Simple Question:

Assuming he stays mostly injury free and plays his entire career at Geelong, where will he rank as an all-time Geelong great when he finishes his career?

He has developed into a phenomenal player, is 26 years old and is by all accounts an absolute professional on and off the field. IMO, he could go down as one of our club's greatest ever players.

Thoughts?

Yes.
He continues this form will be remembered as one of the Great players during this Greatest era. Ergo one of our Greats.
I said to a mate of mine that Harry is turning into a better version of SOS, he destroys his opponent in the backline and drifts forward to kick a goal or 3 several times during a game.
Is a STAR.

He has taken some pretty definitive marks during his time, that's for sure. As far as his all-time status with the club, if/when he gets to 200 games he should have enough of a highlight reel to seal the deal.

Is he the best mark in the comp?
He'd have to be right up there in terms of judgement, but probably not the flashiest in terms of execution - He doesn't do the crazy hangers or one-handed grabs like that Howe dude from Melbourne but the number of times he's taken the defensive mark and then just killed the opposition's run by sitting on the kick for a few seconds has been sensational.

This is such a dick move on Harry's part. Can you imagine being the opposition's full forward and your opponent goes and kicks 3,4,5 or 6 on you. :p
That's what you can do when you have such a solid back group that can re-organise like that.:thumbsu:

I know what you're thinking man, that he could be waaaaay up there with Farmer and Ablett. One of the greatest all-time defenders.

High, very high if he keeps this up..

GO Catters

They were talking about West Coast chasing him and how he is worth $700k and WC or the Shockers should pull out all stops to get him.

It would be a big hole in our defense as well are not exactly blessed with an abundance of tall KP defenders.

If, and I mean IF the perth teams start to sniff around look for the Cats to get pen to paper quickly and get him signed up for long term (which for us would be a 4 year contract).

Don't sweat it. Hutchy and Barrett are muppets that say whatever pops in there head. It's gotten to the point that the media in Aus state whatever they want, don't worry about facts. Look at Carro and her "sack James Hird" rubbish.

To be honest, I reckon he'll be underrated by those who didn't see him. He's probably going to finish around the 200-250 game mark: not bad, but others have played more. B&F? Maybe, but he hasn't really come close so far. AAs? Only one so far, so maybe 4-5 tops (probably what he will be able to hang his hat one)?

Please don't misunderstand: I think he is a great, great player. But there's just so many individual accolades around now, that I can see players being measured on 30-50 years down the track, that when that time comes, old farts like me will be saying 'you had to see him play to appreciate him'. A bit like Senior v Junior.

Selwood and the Hawk are signed up long term. We really need Harry to follow suit. They are the only 3 that could not be replaced. Get Harry secured we have the spine set for 5 years and can add around that. If we lost Harry we'd be in trouble.

where are the bandwagon supporters who usually appear in these threads and say "not even close to the best mark in the game LOL"

hopefully we sign him up for 5 or more years as this Perth talk keeps popping up every year.

Is he the best mark in the comp?

Yes. He may have the best timing that I have ever witnessed. Completely stuffs opponents who want to wrestle. On top of the timing he also has long arms and big hands. Is why he pulls down just about anything he gets any sort of run at.

Hasn't the Perth talk popped up this year because of the story in The Age the other week which seemed more about Mitch Brown (Eagles) wanting to return home and that IF Harry wanted to return home to Perth because his wife is also from there and they now have a young family it might complicate things for St Kilda in getting a deal done for Brown? The article even stated "Harry hasn't spoken to either West Coast or Geelong" - so the whole basis so far this year seems to be that a Vic player may want to return home from the Eagles at the end of the season and the "journo" seems to have pulled a name out of a player from Perth who might want to return home with no basis for doing so.
When was the last time we actually lost a player to the "go home" factor? Last year the talk was of Menz returning to SA but he re-signed here, during his career J. Corey had to deal with speculation about returning to Perth but I don't think I have heard him ever say he considered doing so, and we have a bunch of other players from SA & WA who all seem quite happy out here.

I don't think it's a massive call that he will go down as one of our all time great defenders. I don't doubt that the opposition sees him as the biggest danger in our backline due to his ability to shut down their bigs and drift forward and kick a few sausage rolls himself. I already see an AA in his future this year, but even if he didn't get the individual accolades, our collective memories are such that in a few decades those of who saw him will have a pretty clear place for him in the history of our club.

Where are the supporters who can't tolerate the slightest bit of criticism of the team and declare those not unconditionally positive and full of praise bandwagon supporters? Oh there you are Bobby.

on Harry, if he plays around 250 and mostly at this standard, he'll be right up there with other club legends. Terrific mark, lovely long kick, versatile, consistent, impeccable attitude.

Missed that, very subtle, very funny. :D

But he's a very very good player who will be long remembered by supporters.
