Hi guys

Sorry to intrude, but I was curious to see where you guys were at in regards to Harry Taylor. As some of you may be aware, Harry Taylor is out of contract at years end and the discussions have been heating up in regards to him potentially returning to WA.

Apparently both West Coast and Fremantle are very keen on securing his services, and as such, hypothetical trades have been floated around over the last couple of week. A thread on our forum has also been gaining some legs in recent days, with some of our better known and well credentialed members stating concerns about HT's responses in interviews regarding this matter.

Now you might be wondering where you guys come into the equation since the reasons touted for which HT could potentially be leaving Geelong and moving back to WA have been due to family (his wife has no family in Geelong to help with their young children). Regular listeners of Triple M's 'Rush Hour' would be award of Mark Riccuito's spruiking of Harry Taylor as a potential trade target at years end, and he even ran this by Billy Brownless when Billy made his weekly appearence on the show some time last week.

Without wanting to start a slinging match between our supporters claiming that each other's views are way off in regards to the potential trade values of any number of players, I'm curious to see where you guys are at in regard to HT's worth. Personally I rate him as one of our best 3 players who is arguably our most important player structurally. I would be gutted to lose him, however if he were to leave at years end, there are certainly trades which could be orchestrated which would significantly soften the blow.

To get the ball rolling, I'll start the ball rolling by proposing a trade deal which I think is fair and equitable considering we are talking about a dual premiership, All-Australian CHB who can not only take a contested mark, but can go forward and kick goals just as well effectively as any of the big forwards going around. So having said that, I think that Harry Taylor plus our second round pick for Daniel Talia and Rory Sloane is a fair trade.

Depending on where we finish at years end, at worst our second round pick in an uncompromised draft would fall around the mid-thirties which is still fairly reasonable. Without trying to sound condescending, I don't think you guys need to reminding just how valuable draft picks are to you considering the predicament you've been left in after the Tippet saga. I wait with baited breath the responses and/or feedback.

And i'll expand a little:

Its effectively HT for DT. DT is younger and has more years in him. Sloane for a second rounder? Yeah right. A proven gun, heart of the team for a speculative second round pick (especially after a top 4 finish this year)

Just a terrible suggestion. No need for a slanging match. That suggestion is an insult to the Crows supporters here

Hi guys

I'd imagine there would be more than a few people at Geelong that would be high fiving each other at that deal.

It's hard to guage what is a fair deal to be honest, Taylor is an enormously talented footballer and would be an asset to any side. He would also set up our defense by having him at CHB and moving Talia to FB.

In saying that, there is no use getting Taylor if it destroys your team and having to give up Talia and Sloane would effectively do that. You would have solved a defensive problem but caused another defensive problem and lost a near gun midfielder in the process. In my mind that trade makes us worse off than we are now.

Without us having the benefit of a first round pick, it becomes pointless in my mind for us to summize what Adelaide should give up to get Taylor. If we had one, maybe that with a young mid might make it happen ( and I ain't thinking Dangerfield :) ) but even then the first round pick would want to be mighty high. Outside of that though, I'd rather the club passed on him, even though I really do rate him as a footballer.

Ill try to be fair to the OP who probably doesn't realise that he has suggested we trade away 2 guys who are in the top 3 in our B&F so far this year.

I genuinely would not trade Talia for Taylor, Sloane would be one of 3 untouchables on our list, and draft picks outside the top 25 are more or less worthless because its a lottery by that stage anyway.

I don't think we have the chips to do a trade for Taylor, even though Geelong may be forced into accepting unders as clubs usually do when a player wants out. Having said that I do think we have the chips to provide the grease for a deal that gets Taylor to WCE, and Lycett to the Crows.

Taylor isn't coming here as much as we would like. I'm sure that he'll sign up before the end of the season. Sloane and Talia are both untouchable for us and we don't have a history of trading players unless they demand to be traded (neither Sloane of Talia have made any such move). While your trade might work hypothetically (I still think we are getting unders tbh) it would never happen because of how important both of those players are to the fabric of this club. More damage would be done by trading them than what we would gain by recruiting Taylor.

If the rumour is he wants out back to Perth, where do we come in unless we start talking 3-way trade with WC or Freo?

LOL - Brad Symes and Tambling + our 3rd rounder for Harry Taylor

This won't end well. Confirms that Talia is well underrated though.

It does indeed. Usually an Adelaide player has to win four or five AA awards before a Victorian commentator gets his name right. Pretty sure I heard them call Talia "Bock" on the weekends game against St Kilda

You are very kind Pyro.

If we traded away Talia or Sloane I would shred my guernsey and renounce the Crows. I would also take a huge shit on the doorstep of Trigg for getting us into this mess. If it weren't for him and his incompetent management of our club we would have more bargaining power, draft picks and wouldn't have to even contemplate such rubbish offers.

DT is on his way to becoming the best Defender in the comp... trading a player on the up for a player effectively on the down isn't likely to happen... it wont happen

RS is probably the most popular crows player aside dangerfield and walker so doubtful he would be shopped about.

Taylor has 3-4 years before he gets over run by the sands of time?

the one that sticks out for me is Douglas -former B&F and is near our best player this season...
but i don't think sando will be keen to shop dougie as he has come on leaps and bounds under his guidance.

I'm not sure there is an suitable match up in our mix. and probably a lot hinges on what happens between now and the end of the season...

players like otten shaw mckernan etc may have a much different perceived value by seasons end

I was reading OP's thread with an open mind, knowing full well fans overrate their own players and underrate the oppositions. I knew OP would make an unrealistic ball park figure to 'get the ball rolling'.

I then read this.

So having said that, I think that Harry Taylor plus our second round pick for Daniel Talia and Rory Sloane is a fair trade.

I had to take a sip of coffee just so I could spray it all over my computer screen.

Why OP didn't just ask for Dangerfield and Walker I don't know.
