Started with his selection of Ibbotson.

You cant honestly think a bloke who has been away from the game for a month can come back in with no match fitness and expect them to pick up the tempo of the game.

He was a no show tonight through no fault of his own, it's all well and good to say Ibbo was able to run the whole recovery period, but there's a difference between running drills, laps and sprints as opposed to match fitness.

Error one.

Error number two, leaving Mcphee on Cloke for so long, pretty obvious the bloke is a gorilla, had more mobility and some pace off mark than Dawes, why leave an undersized, less defensively apt player like Mcphee on Cloke when Taz is wasting away on the hack Dawes?

Silvanghi easily beat Dawes on the lead, covered him in the air and was superior on the deck. Pretty poor analysis of the opposition side IMO.

Error number 3.

Leaving Haselby in the forward line when Mundy went down. Collingwood doesnt have the fastest midfield unit and it was pretty obvious we needed some bigger bodies around the contest.

Blokes like Hill and Mora are good in space, but are still easy to move so early in their development.

Harvey's done well for most part this year, but I though he was comprehensively out done by the silver fox tonight.

Let's see how we back up.

Well played Pies. :thumbsu:

Agreed - Harvs had all his match ups wrong besides DeBoer who did a great job on Shaw. Tarrant is our best back...should of been on Cloke first up even prior to McPharlin getting injured. McPhee just shouldn't play back - AT ALL. Ibbo selection was a gamble that didn't pay off...he looked borderline 22 prior to getting injured so was astounded he was selected coming off 5 weeks lay off....saying that I backed Harv's...it's just he was wrong in hindsight.

Tarrant had just been handed his arse to him by Cloke.

McParlin's in the rooms. Silvagni not strong enough and Johnson showing all the back bone of that squid that got shagged during the week.

Not really many options to be honest...having said that McPhee was shit

Every lesson is paid dearly. I'm sure he'll learn from this. It's not embarrassing being out-coached by Malthouse. I too was wondering what McPhee was doing on Cloke, but it doesn't matter now.

Ive been happy with team selections all year.. this week was the first time I had a serious question mark. Ibbotson did nothing to deserve his spot back in the 22. even Palmer, Grover etc have had to do that through the WAFL. Bradley did nothing to deserve being dropped. Sends the wrong message to the players, and to those who have been battling all year in the WAFL.

Sorry mate, but that's bullshit.

He had one goal kicked on him, when Cloke ran into the open goal after pushing Tarrant off.

The goal from 50 on the boundary was opposed to Mcpharlin.

He bagged three in a on Mcphee and the contest was effectively killed.

Like I said, Silvanghi was more than competition for Dawes who is nothing special, in fact, I really think he's a Cameron Cloke clone.

Johnson should be axed. Pissweak from a senior player.

It was the midfield where we were destroyed. How many long bombs did Swan do from the center? How many times did they hit targets and never give up when the ball is bouncing around? That is what won them the game.

End of 3rd quarter, you see Mundy not chasing his opponent into goal and lets him get an easy one. Granted Mundy was supposedly injured but you couldn't tell, had the same slow jog on the defensive side.

You have to put most of that blame on Palmer, Hase, Mundy, Ibbo who looked average tonight.

What's this about the squid?

Would have to agree, from listening to the play by play of the game, we were being bollocked in the midfield.

13 goal kickers they had. Pretty sure the dont have that many forwards.

For all this crap about McPhee/Taz, when the ball is getting pumped into their forward half that often, it doesn't matter what your defenders do, they're in for a long night.

The real problem was that their forwards played in front all night and our defenders were too reactive. So often a quick kick forward from a clearance found a forward, and it was nowhere near a pinpoint kick from the stoppage. The same thing happened against St Kilda.

Our forwards wait to be hit on the chest with a lace out pass too much for mine. They need to expect the ball more.

Well we all become experts after a loss don't we. As for OP. I'll give you the Hase one. I think he should have been thrown in the middle a bit more once Mundy went down just to get more clearances happening. Pav went in there a lot which makes sense, put Hase could have been given a shot. The reluctance may have been because in open play, the pies were running much better than us, especially when in counted in the third quarter.

McPhee - well with McPharlin going down and Mundy on one leg, it was his chance to step up ... and well yea he didn't. I don't rate him as a defender, but he did a good job last week so it was worth a shot. All the bigger players down back were ordinary, especially early. They looked all over the palce. Taz had his worst game of the season and it was embarrassing watch Cloke treat him like NFI rookie. Silvagni who's been a star just looked so off the pace after one week out it was amazing, and of course McPharlin going down stuffed everything up down back. Anyway, the point I'm making is that Harvs had his hands tied to some degree with what was happening back there.

As for Ibbo - I'll only say this, if Suban was as good to go as Ibbo then he should have played, I'll give you that, but I'm not convinced he was. He was probably an emergency to give him a last ditch shot ... or is he playing WAFL this weekend . Perhaps Roberton could have stayed in, and in hindsight with McPharlin's injury you probably would have had him over Ibbo,

Loss of McPharlin killed our structure, so game day wise I don't have a massive issue with him.

Why was Bradley dropped?

i think he was dropped cos they were worreid about collingwoods speed

he was a tactial move last week imo to exploit brisbanes lack of height, they even said on the radio last week that brisbane were nitceably short in comparison to the dockers.

This does not change the fact that Taz should have been on Cloke. McPhee is not the number one defender for big opposition players.

This was an error that was extremely costly. Without sounding rude, Cloke is NOT a 5 goal forward. He had a day out because a monumental error was made in defensive planning.

Elvis going down did not help things but seeing Taz go to waste in the first half was mind boggling.

Even though the Pies were playing well I thought that this aspect REALLY hurt us this evening.:(

Error number 4. Taking the red eye back from Brisbane and losing a decent nights sleep. That was their biggest mistake and what ultimately lost them the game.

You need to listen to the coaching staff as to their reasoning for that; it was either Barry Mitchell or Chris Scott who said the boys tend NOT to get a "decent nights sleep" after a game, PERIOD. On balance they felt it was best to come straight back.
