Hey, I agree with you that mere offense shouldnt be the basis for anything, but you are thinking on an INDIVIDUAL scale. We wouldnt cancel an entire movie because one guy doesnt like it. But when that movee depicted an entire section of a population in a derogatory way you cant just sweep it under the carpet and claim "we were younger then!"

Being offended doesnt make you better or in a higher position morally, but we are talking about cultural things that made sweeping racial stereotypes for sheer entertainment. This isnt one guy saying "Hey, that er, Gone with the Wind has some stuff I dont like" this is us as a society saying hey, thats a bit messed up, maybe we should address that before we watch it as a way of at least acknowledging how messed up it was?

I do find it interesting we are allowed to positively stereotype aboriginies

In the UK people are losing their minds over a White Lives Matter banner that was flown over a football game. Falling over themselves to be the most outraged and apologetic without actually articulating what was wrong with it. Police are investigating 'whether an offence has been committed'. There are calls for all plane banners to be banned across the UK. Anyone associating with White Lives Matter has been cancelled.

Contrast this with Black Lives Matter. It has had riots in its name, massive breaches of Covid 19 restrictions, a GoFundMe page that advocates dismantling capitalism and abolishing the police, the organisers of this radical movement still refuse to say who are their leaders, football players given no choice about supporting the cause.

A leading scholar at the University of Oxford believes conservatives are afraid to stand up to the “zealous left-wing minority” who want to “erase and rewrite history” in case doing so prompts the mob to destroy their careers.

Nigel Biggar, regius professor of moral and pastoral theology, has criticised renewed demands, prompted by the Black Lives Matter movement, for statues and memorials to individuals who do not meet the standards of the 21st-century social justice left to be torn down, and for children to be taught a negatively slanted history of Britain’s imperial past.
“The problem is that most academics know nothing about imperial history,”

Nah not racist but chess is sexist. Aim is to kill the king.

Chess celebrates sexual diversity too though. The Queen can go any which way she likes and a pawn can become a Queen if it can reach the rear. Pawns can also siddle up to you and then take you from behind sometimes (en passant). Bishops can take you from either diagonal flank both forwards and backwards. Knights and their L shapes, ah geeze...

Gone with the Wind is back on HBO. They've added a four-minute disclaimer explaining that slavery was bad.

Rather than a 10 second slide (or just keeping it as is) they put up a mainsplaining warning long enough to ignore by going and getting a cup of tea.

Does anyone seriously not know about slavery ?

Well done with the camel.

That's a huge weight off my mind.

Had a lot of time reconciling whether Nazis were OK after watching Saving Private Ryan the other week.
