This isnt a CC bashing thread. However after the seasons start and with the squad we have, do we need to get tough and replace our head coach. Here are just a few examples of issues that happened Vs Lions and continuely happening
  • We had players being played out of position.
  • We have players that really look past it or disinterested reguarly playing games.
  • We haven't honmestly looked menacing all season - as we did late 2006.
In the premier league you often find a manager that can take a woefully performing club up through the lower leagues through promotion to the Premier League. In a sense, Connolly has fulfilled that role. Then you find those managers that guided those clubs tend to struggle in the premier league, and usually have a more experienced manager come in.
Maybe we need a Sir Alex Ferguson type to come and motivate the squad and guide us to the premiership. Whom that may be I do not know, perhaps Mark Harvey, but if we don't try anything new, we'll be doomed to this Richmond style mediocracy that has plauged them for decades.

Well this is a CC bashing thread, you basically stated he's possibly a middle rung coach and we need a top rung coach to take us to the next step. I agree, for whatever it's worth.

In my opinion he shouldn't have been coaching after the first 2 games, because I could see the same problems (which I think are coach related) in those losses. Now if we do bad before the mid season break (as in aren't close to being in the 8) it's highly likely he will be chopped, to be replaced by Harvey. I just don't know why it wasn't done earlier, the warning signs were there in the preseason and first 2 games.

I was just throwing the question out there. I'm not attacking CC. I havent insulted him. I, like any other fan, just would like our club to take the final step. My point is - will a coaching change in our clubs current circumstances help us salvage what is fast becoming a season to forget.

It is a good question to ask, I don't think anyone could really tell you with any assurance that getting rid of CC is the 100% solution. However, I, like you would like to see a change.

*IF* we end the season out of the 8 and CC is still in charge, does anyone believe we should hire him next season? I doubt you could find anyone who would say he would be hired again if we are out of the 8.

I don't see why people think we should keep someone on just to SEE how he will do by round 22. I'd like to try Harvey now, see if he is the answer, if not try to get another coach next year. Who wants 2008 to be a new year with Harvey when we don't know how he will go?

Put on some glasses then, I have been here. You can even go check my post history to see, you are the one lying sir.

With as much respect as I can muster, I tend to agree with you.

Now that freo have a side good enough to challenge for the flag maybe they should try and find a coach that will be able to push them out of their comfort zone and take them to the next level where they're consistent.

Respectfully yours, ditto.

**** off Ditto!...er respectfully.

After round two would have been too late, Connolly should have been sacked after the port game. Or even at 3/4 time of that game because we were shocking in that third quarter.

To suggest sacking a coach after 2 games is bloody ridiculous. I'm not a Connolly fan but it is stupid to suggest the club erred by not sacking him after 2 games. I wouldn't have been disappointed if he was sacked at the split round last year, but he deserves a decent crack at 2007. The trading of the club last year brought added pressure, and if we lose to hawthorn those of us who turned on Connolly last year will again get on the front foot.

People hate to be proven wrong, so the Fremantle supporters that were opposed to Connolly's position at the club last year will become very vocal if we don't start winning consistently soon. The lack of motivation amongst the playing group suggests they have run out of the magic potion that they discovered in Sydney last year.

When is Schwab due back from the U.S., becaue Connolly may need his support in coming weeks. I think he's away until round 10/11?

Well the thing is dominguez, Ive seen him coach more than 2 games, he actually took over in 2002 in case you weren't aware. So I pretty much know what Connolly can offer, it would seem.

I don't see why me calling for him to be sacked in round 2 is any worse than all of you wanting him to be sacked in round 22. Most of you obviously want to ride off 2008 also? I think Harvey is going to be tried at mid season, unless we lose a lot more in a row over the coming weeks.

And to everyone who thinks a coach change mid year is bad, just look at Sydney to see that it doesn't always go bad.

Probably not.
However, if the players are not performing is it not the coaches responsibility to axe them??

Yep , Who would you have axed from last week's team?

We have still used 30 players already this season.

That doesn't leave many to try considering Peake , Haddrill , Thornton , Browne , Farmer , Dunn are all unavailable for one reason or another.

I'm talking this week.

Matt Carr has underperformed in at least 3 games.

Parker, god bless his cotton socks, has looked like a dead man walking for the whole season...

The hardest thing is most to all "good & experienced" coaches are already coaching. So who would you like to see at the helm??

A coach that's experienced but is out of the game now, as an example ONLY, Robert Walls (PLEASE NO!!!!); a new senior coach plucked from a WAFL/VFL/SANFL or equivalent team; or promote one of your current assistant coaches??

The idea of changing coaches is easy, sux having to choose who though.

Well there may be a better selection come end of year, who knows, but some have said Longmire. I'd like to see Harvey tried first this year, rather than give him a 1 year contract next year, just to know if we should continue with Harvey next year or look for someone else.

I got shot down when I suggested He may be left out.

You are talking this week after the event though. Most agreed that Walker and Happy would be dropped and with 20/20 hindsight the pace of Walker & Happy would have been better value than Cookie and M Carr.

Only Kenny reckoned that Cookie should have been dropped.

The axe will fall this week on a couple of favorite sons , sadly.

I reckon that the coaching staff are one jump ahead of us though getting things in order to promote Foster.

That's the problem, that you can't see sense. How insane would it have looked if we had sacked our coach who took us to a prelim after 2 close losses? There would have been a huge amount of pressure on whoever took over and it would have had a negative impact on the playing group.

I was furious when Connolly's contract was extended prior to the 2005 season, and I was hoping that Connolly would get the boot at the split round last year. But we turned things around and Connolly deserved a chance to prove that he is a good coach. He is currently running out of chances though, and we need to win the next 3 games.

Connolly will almost certainly be our coach in round 22 regardless of what any of us think.

Who cares how it looks. If we end up out of the 8 this year and CC coached the whole year, wouldn't YOU want to know if Harvey could have put us into the finals if he was coach? That would BUG me wondering that.

I didn't mind Connolly up until the end of 2005. He should have been sacked then, not in 2004, because he was still unproven by that stage, regardless of our not making finals in 2004.
