Why do people continually struggle with this very easy concept?

You can extend the H&A season to 50 weeks but teams would still want a couple of practice games.

Surely this is pure common sense.

But surely if this was the first home and away game of the season it would have been a little bit better for Fremantle to walk away with 4 points?

Just seen the replay now, his knee popped right through, so I think it's a 12 month job.

Heard a lot of people say he'd been training the house down, so it's pretty disappointing for him.

As I said in an earlier thread, you don't wish injuries, let alone these severe ones on other players, even if it is your arch rival.

I feel for Hase and all the Freo fans, he had a pretty good game until his injury.

Any luck, he'll just miss the first 4 and be back and running soon.

NAB games are getting more serious each year. They are no longer scratch matches and injuries are starting to appear. The intensity in these games is as high as a regular season game.

Sooner or later the AFL should scrap this and extend the Home and Away Season. Maybe call the irst 10 rounds the NAB cup and award the Ladder leader the Cup...For sponsorship dollar.
But these games aren't played in fall or winter...if this was H&A time then we'd have guys passing out on the field - especially if interchange cards come into play (a big reason why I am against them).

Pre-season injuries happen all the time, but any way to try and prevent more of them is a good thing to consider IMO.

Hopefully will turn out to be a hyperextension or something, rather than an ACL. Didn't look good at the time though.

In the crowd we were trying to work out what had happened as the first thing he did was grab his head, and on the initital replays on the crappy screens at the ground it looked like he'd come down hard on his shoulder.

One of my favourite players, hope the news is good from the scans.

NAB Serious ???

Maybe for a couple of sides, like Adelaide and Freo.

I think that's a tad unfair.

Both sides use the NAB cup as a chance for a run around and see how the youngsters go. That's the way it should be. The fault, IMO, lays with the AFL and their insistence in maximising profit and having a Derby in the first week of the preseason comp.

Both sides (Eagles and Dockers) then tend to go out with something to prove, neither wanting to lose to their hometown rival and the game gets taken a little more seriously than if we were playing say a St Kilda or a Roos. Plus to top it all off, it's generally played in 40 degree heat!

BAH!

Not a bad idea but I'd extend the season a tad and name the first 15 rounds the NAB Mid Season Cup, everyone plays each other once, top of the ladder wins $500,000 and the ladder positions after everyone plays each other once is what is used for the draft.

Bye bye tanking.

We experimented quite a bit and basically had a training drill out there because you guys were woeful to be kind for the most part. The sore loser one liner approach from an NAB cup match shows us your true feelings. Enjoy no footy for your mob on TV next week.

On Haze he needed the run as he has trained his hardest ever, shed quite a few kg's and wanted to get into it. You can get injured in an intra-club, down at training NAB cup or Home and Away.

Argh, I know how it feels to lose a key player in the pre-season. Hope he's alright, is there any word about his condition now? Two exciting players down in two days :(

Il tell you from experience, if you do it badly, it flipping hurts.
i said this on the dockers board that the general rule with a knee injury is pain is good, not much paing is bad, with my knee it hurt initially but mostly wasnt to painful.
It turned out i had a cracked bone, 3 ligaments torn and cartlige snapped in half. dont want to be a downer here people but didnt look good to me with my past experiance lets hope im wrong + he gets back soon

Exactly!!! Practice games

But what do they have televised commercialised big sponsor "SPECIAL" BS!

The teams that will do well 9/10 are the ones who play.. THE REAL RULES, in a pretend FRIENDLY until it starts

Devestated for Malceski and Haselby (gun footballer!)

... The first couple of "real ones" really hurt.... and alll16 should be allowed to interchange whoever whenever...

ask Sheeds and Roosey they USED TO HAVE a let's play 16 v 16 ! but unlimited bench!!! first up

Noooooooooooooooo! the afl$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ ...KNOWS BETTER!
