GEELONG forward Tom Hawkins is back in a moonboot as his persistent foot injury flares up again.

Hopefully just precautionary until pre-season starts and he will get a full pre-season and 2009 with no new flare ups.

Meanwhile, the club is still uncertain whether defender Matthew Egan will take part in pre-season training, as he battles is own ongoing foot problem.
"Oh look, it's still too early to say," Balme told gfc.com.au.
"We're very hopeful but he's still got a fair way to go. He's closer than he was three months ago ... he is progressing through and we're hopeful that he'll be OK."

Fingers crossed.

Re: Hawkins in Moon Boot Again

Tomahawk's body isn't standing up to the rigours of AFL footy so far. Not a good sign for a KP forward. Just hoping we can find a way to get this right.

Egan's injury will come good eventually. It's merely a question of when.

Re: Hawkins in Moon Boot Again

The frustrating thing is, this is exactly the type of situation where the club can't be trusted with news. They've told porkies before. It took them a long time before they came clean with Egan, and then again with Ottens early this year (...from memory they kept with the line that it was his ankle!).

If Hawkins can't do pre-season, I don't hold high hopes for his progress next year. He needs to be a lot fitter to go any further.

Re: Hawkins in Moon Boot Again

I'm definitely no expert so I would appreciate someone with some knowledge telling me how these "hot spots" (Tom's reported injury) flare up. Can they do it without any stress put on the area or are they a result of a heavy workload on the area? I ask because I can't imagine Tom would have done anything too strenuous over the past month.

A hotspot can be any number of things as it refers to an area of brightness that shows up during a bone scan. This can be due to bone growth, repair, damage or even a tumour. In most cases in an athlete it is most likely caused by damage to the bone either a stress fracture or the pre-cursors of a stress fracture.
Contributors can be over use, hard surfaces etc etc.

The boy is an absolute man mountain! Could he possibly be over the safe load limit of his feet? :D

Seriously though what's his playing weight? 112kg? Multiply that by a couple of times to account of the G-forces of a running foot hitting the ground and you've got an honest 500kg of force going through the most intricate part of a human skeleton.

Fingers crossed he comes good (Croadie too) cause you never know with feet just ask Jimmy Hird. :thumbsu:

Fat pig Dew has done allright. Get Hawkins back on the Macca's n tell him to just mark the ball and kick for goal if he marks within 55.

Re: Hawkins in Moon Boot Again

Yeah, I have a suspicion he won't play another game of footy...

Saw him the other day at gym working his tail off HE WILL BE BACK. Please stop being so NEGATIVE people.

Not being negative, it's just hard not to worry when the reports form the club aren't sounding as positive as they should be. I do hope that he comes back, just saying that I have a nasty feeling that he may not return.

Saw Tom Hawkins hobbling around on crunches today at the Caulfield Cup, as he was passing asked him how his recovery was going he said "Going well mate, as expected" seemed like a nice bloke:thumbsu:.

More importantly, did you see Miranda Kerr in the flesh?

Thanx for the positive reports guys, I know it dosen't look good with Hawkins in a moon boot, but it's more than likely a precaution and not the stress fracture we're worried about.
