MMMMMM. I watched the game Tonight and to say the least I was less than impressed. I don't know if I was imagining it but did Hawkins injure that foot again and did I see him limp off in front of me. It didn't look good to me but how would you know. I was praying that this was the year he would step up in the Forward line but now I'm not so sure????? :thumbsd:

I'd be more worried about the total lack of form any of the fringe players are showing - Hawkins, Lonergan, Simpson, Varcoe, Djerrkura, Stokes etc.

Lonergan and Hawkins looked ok on the lead but that was it. All of the small forwards did nothing.

Oh yes, can we please stop playing Ablett as a full-forward. He's the competition's best midfielder (and best player), how about we play him there? Same with Chapman at half forward (who did turn up and played brilliantly).

Have you just come out of a coma ?
We can update you with recent games if need be.

Geez, harsh saying Hawk is lacking form, he has played one half of football in which I was quite impressed by his output.

Lonergan dropping chest marks on the other hand is getting problematic.

Yeah, an average of 26 touches and 3 goals a game in the last two weeks is a terrible form line. Stokes should be ashamed of himself.

Personally i think geelong need to use the next 3 weeks to get some power back in the legs...the late start to the pre season showed tonight..IMO not as quick as last year, and didnt have alot in the tank compared to what we're used to..

Nothing to worry about, thats what these games are for...I think the cats have had a perfect pre season, and all the cobwebs will be out by round 1:thumbsu:

I meant tonight's game only. He was great the last 2 weeks obviously. Then again, watching on TV it's hard to judge how frequently they come on and off the bench.

He's the only one of the small forwards guaranteed a spot for round 1 on form. Especially as Thompson seems obsessed with playing Chapman on the ball and Ablett anywhere but there.

Oh well, he's not the answer, let's shun him as we have Lonergan. :thumbsd:

Seriously though, it was his first hit- out against an opponent who continues to really impress me with his development in Michael Jamieson.

It has been well documented that Chapman will be playing a far more significant role in the midfield this season and will become a semi- permanent member in there. And playing Ablett forward is quite simply excellent strategy. If you watch, Thompson has succeeded in isolating him deep when moved there and he has looked nothing but dangerous every time it's come into his vacinity this pre- season. Not only does resting Ablett forward provide us with great means of versatility and un- predictability in the forward line, it gives us a legitimate goalscoring option as he will beat his man on the ground or in the air almost every time.

NAB Cup.

I don't really take much out of the form of players in the NAB cup games.

Yes the young players need to show something and it is always good to be playing at your best but the club does not take the pre-season seriously.

There are so many players playing out of position and rotating through that it will always be hard to show all your wears.

Yes it can be a great way for some players to push for selection during the year but is mostly just a way to get a bit of game time into players so they can work on their skills and so the coaches can mess around with some plays.

As for Hawkins he has done very little during the pre-season and it was his first game.

I don't think that the way Geelong are playing the game at the moment is very helpful for key forwards. They are not creating the space where they can run through the corridor and isolate key forwards in a one out contest. They seem to want to ping the ball around with a lot of hand ball. I would never expect a player like Hawkins to figure much in that style of play.

Good point. It would be nigh on impossible to know when and where to lead if you were a key forward at the moment, and by the time you lead your space would be blocked by defenders running back into defensive 50.

Wonder if not having Mooney in the goal square has something to do with that though. He seems to be a lot better at reading the play than Lonners and Hawkins, and the midfield would probably be able to honour his leads more, as they'd know when and where he'll lead to more often than not.

Bomber did mention in the after match press conference that we did overdo the handball though. We definitely wouldn't want to do that against Collingwood next week, especially considering their awesome tackling efforts against us the last time we played that mob.

I think the big Bone gave a number of good leads tonight, but the delivery was often not quite good enough (over his head a number of times). He still managed a few grabs on the lead, so he is not at all lost out there. I've gotta say I wasn't expecting any more than what he gave tonight.

The cats played a poor brand of football tonight.Really 236 handballs in a shortened game that is a disgrace. The game is called FOOTball. Still won though.

Gee thanks mate, we will take that on board as it has only won us about 45 of the last 50 games.

I think the general consensus is that we play a pretty exciting brand of footy, certainly much more attractive than the Sydney super flood, which was sorta on display tonight.

Yes sydneys game is shit, worse than geelongs but geelongs is still shit and is better than carltons.......for now.

Partridge, I think you are wrong about Djerrkura. He has been very solid with flashes of brilliance here and ther. His attack on the ball is first class. If only Travis showed as much ticker as that he'd be a star. I think Nathan just might have a good year this year.
