sorry, and why exactly are going to trade the best ruckman in AFL?
ive lost track of the amount of trades were supposed to be gonna do maybe tomorrow..or the next day..i reckon weve traded the whole team by now..where does that leave us, with a whole bunch of guys whove never played together..oh well, we can trade them for newer guys..where does it end..where does it start? when does it stop..i'm confused!?

So in the last month:

1: WCE are tanking - fail
2: WCE are going to break the away losses record - fail
3: Cox going to Hawthorn - ....

Forget about what Hawthorn might give us for Cox, how could they even afford him? They have massive problems fitting their existing team under the salary cap and might end up losing players as a result. GC17 and their massive salary cap and right to uncontracted players is casting a large shadow over them. How on earth would they fit another A grade $500,000+ a year player into their cap?

15YM, how dare you? Logic has no part in this ;)

Hypothetically they could offer us Rioli and their first round pick for Priddis, but they won't, just as they won't offer that for Cox.
My point is that to not even consider a trade is foolish, short sighted, ignorant, and dumb. If hawthorn feel that Cox is the key to success and their premiership window is not then they may just offer something the Eagles can't refuse. Putting your head in the sand and not even wanting to listen to trade talk is foolish.

Then you are lacking in footy smarts. Don't have the ability to use your head and not your heart.

Why on earth would be trade away the best ruckman in the league, ho still has probably 4 years left in him, for a kid who's going ok and a draft pick who could turn out to be a complete spud?? I think YOU are the one who's not using your head...

I think it can be done. I think players will agree to pay cuts if they think it will land them a flag. What's questionable is whether they can acquire what West Coast would accept for a trade (assuming Cox agreed to go). They'll probably get pick 9 or 10 and would have to couple that with a player to prize melbourne's #1 or 2 pick from them. Or hand over Buddy, Cyril, or roughie.

So let me get this right, If hawthorn offered Rioli and their first rounder (approx pick #10) you'd knock it back?

I would knock back that trade. Cox is more valuable than that.

I would accept a straight swap for Buddy or Rioli + 2 first round picks. The hawks wont give either.

Of course I would. Rioli has had a couple of good first seasons but there's no guarantee that he'll turn out to be anything more special than he already is. Travis Johnstone was a No.1 draft pick after all. Secondly, pick 10 could turn out to be an absolute spud. After all, look how Sampi and McDougall ended up...

I know the idea of high draft picks is all exciting but it seems more to me that you're willing to do the trade because of the excitement of something new, not because it's actually a good idea.

Do you honestly think trading away one of the best ruckmen ever to play the game is a good idea for Rioli and pick 10, considering we just picked up a young ruckman at no.2 in last year's draft? Who's going to be there to mentor him?

You don't just get rid of players of Dean Cox's calibre just because you want a shiny new toy to play with

The Eagles wouldn't.

He's pretty special;) And he's got 10 years whereas Cox has 4.

Was never as good as rioli.

...or Cox could get injured.....

What might happen is irrelevant as it can happen for both sides.

Bzzzzzt. Wrong. Excitement? All due respect but i'm not a halfwit. It's about cashing in the chips at the right time and timing towards the next flag.

make no mistake, if Cox agreed to go West Coast would take that in a flah.

Who's going to be there to mentor him?
Naita's a big boy.

You don't knock back a profitable deal that will go a long way towards a new flag because you're emotional attached to a player.

So you wouldn't swap a 28yo Cox who will soon be on the downward slope for a 22yo Buddy Franklin absolute superstar and a 20yo superstar in Rioli AND a 1st round pick? You don't think you're deluding yourself?

Did you even read my post? I said I would swap Cox for Buddy. I wouldnt swap Cox for Rioli + a 1st rounder though.
