What do you think Hawthorn would offer for Cox BB?
No idea. On face value you'd think Rioli, Buddy, and Roughie are off limits. But it depends on where they see their balance needs to be at. Their flag window is between now and 3-4 years time. Cox might be what they feel is a must and more imprtant to other players. Also, Roughie may hit them up and tell them he's not getting enough love. Other things may happen like the Swans offering Roughie $800k pa and he request a trade. what Hawks get for him they may pass to us. Maybe they need to go to melbourne and offer Lewis or Ellis and their first pick for pick 2 and then offer that to us.

I think the odds are very high for a trade. Cox has to agree. Hawks have to find something that satisfies us. hawks have to keep under the cap.

Hawthorn will only get him if they're really aggressive. And to be that they have to believe he is an absolute must have and provides a better balance by offloading one of their current stars.

If paying over the odds on a trade bought you a premiership, would you pay it? I know I would.
Absolutely. We did it with Chick and Stinger. If you're in the window you trade for now. future just isn't a consideration, there are no 2-way bets. You just go all out and get the balance you need.

If Ottens has a career ending injury and don't win the flag then they may be another team who would pay over the odds for Cox. Joel Selwood will always be off limits unless he requested a trade. I believe he will be their capatain as early as next year. He's a complete footballer.

So hypothetically if hawthorn offered us Rioli and their first pick you'd say no? You need to stop limiting your brain cells.

yep, i'd say no..already got a paddock of talent, anything else is fine tuning or icing on the cake..

speaking of braincells, i read these headlines recently in a tabloid claiming integrity...

ELVIS FOUND ALIVE ON MARS!

OPRAH SNATCHED AND OPERATED ON BY ALIENS!

ALIENS GIVE FINANCIAL ADVICE TO OBAMA IN WHITEHOUSE!

MICHEAL JACKSON TO DO DUET WITH JESUS IN HEAVEN!

BIGFOOT KIDNAPS LUMBERJACK AS LOVE SLAVE!

scenario..the games best ruckman has a spell on the bench (or forward pocket) after winning most of his hitouts...he is then relieved by natanui ..arguably to be the 2 best rucking midfielding playmaking goalkickers in the comp..comprende?

What about Buddy + Rioli + Roughie + first round pick? Excess to our needs?

If you read my posts I think you'll find I have suggested it's most likely media fabrication. Doesn't mean it shouldn't be discussed and doesn't mean hawthorn wouldn't want Cox (because you can guaranteed they would like him).

thats fine..a difference of opinion is all..i like to keep a sense of humour.

Id say there tall forwards are completely off the table and its arguable wether we require a tall forward. There backmen are nothing to write home about, the best of whome is Hodge... better believe he is off the table.

Rioli is cetrainly off the table, sure we can banter him around in a trade with Hawthorn but when push comes to shove they would not want to get rid of him and certainly wouldnt trade him as he is very much apart of there midfield and forward line. Did as much as any in there premiership year and did a few game turning things on the day to help them get over the line.

What they do have is a fair abundance of young midfielders who are currently struggling to break into the team on a consistant basis.

Tuck, Muston, Kennedy, Morton, Whitecross would all be on the table as well as any first and second round draft picks this year. Any one of those players in combination with a first round draft pick would not be worth Cox IMO. And I rate Tuck as well.

We're pretty much a lock for pick 6:

1. Melb
2. Melb
3. Freo
4. Rich/North
5. Rich/North
6. West Coast

The top 5 players everyone is talking about are:

Scully
Trengrove
Butcher
Lucas
Morabito

To offload Cox we'd really need the ability to pick one of those players up. Anything outside is a gamble and those young Hawthorn players seem a gamble too (although I don't know a lot about them).

If Hawthorn asked for Cox and be insting we got some top tier quality for him in the form of either a Cyril, Roughie, Buddy, or top 5 pick.

If the Eagles were to trade Cox they would (or at least should) require a deal similar to the one that they got for Judd. A top 5 pick, another first round (or very early second round) pick and a promising player in a position that the Eagles feel they need improvement in. Hawthorn would have to do some sharp trading, or offer a premium player such as Franklin or Roughead as part of the deal. Rioli and there first pick (unless they trade to get a pick inside 5) shouldn't be enough for Cox.

Rioli, Roughie, and Buddy would all be straight swaps and we would be getting the better out of the deal on face value. Given Hawthorn would most likely want to retain these players they probably have to acquire pick 2 from Melbourne. Something like Pick 8 and Muston/Ellis/Dowler for pick 2.

Exactly right, they would need to give up top tier quality. Now I dont know about you but I would consider all of there top tier quality required players at this stage, even releasing one of the above three in exchange for Cox seems like a sideways trade to me. Weakening the midfield or forward line to strenghten the ruck wont win them another premiership. The Hawks do not have an abundance of talent in any one position to be able to trade that player out for another A grader and actually strenghten the team overall.

What they would be planning is to release some of there fringe players and there draft picks.

Cox for Sewell - get it done. :D

Neville Bartos: There's no Cox for trade here. Here there's no Cox, alright? Cox, no. Robbo?

Robbo:
No Cox.

its just crazy... imagine what we would have to give up for hawthorn to actually trade us hodge? we would literally be looking at a top 5 pick AND an all australian under the age of 25.

honestly i cant see it happening unless franklin is involved. thats why its crazy

scenario - seabys been traded..cox was traded for whoever(yet another midfielder?)..nicnat plays a great 1st qtr, then early in the 2nd qtr breaks his leg...where are we at?
excuse my sense of humour.

if cox is injured we still have Natanui..if we dont have cox and then we have an injured Natanui( it happens, look at cox now)..we have no quality ruckmen (lynch?)..weve got a paddock full of midfielders(including hot trades for cox) and noone to feed them the ball..you now where we're at? - we are at a situation where we'd need a sense of humour to survive!?

if cox is injured we still have Natanui..
But we have an injured player whereas we could have had someone else.

As for a replacement ruckman: we would be able to organise one before we are in flag contention.

Re midfielders: it's not about quantity, it's about quality. another mid just increases our chances of finding 4 absolute guns.

Cox will never be traded.

Even if Hawks offered us Franklin and Rioli there is no way we would ask him to leave the club.

Stupid thread, lock it.

WTF??

If the Hawks offered us Franklin and Rioli and we knocked them back, well our board would be frigging negligent.

Your theory is what? That Cox is a loyal servant who wants to stay so no way he gets traded? How did that work out for Chad Morrison or Ian Downsborough? Or do we only believe in loyalty when the player is "good"?

No-one is untradeable if the offer is sufficient.

Always get a chuckle over moronic one-eyed posters and aren't even close to being in touch with reality.

Stupid post. Delete it.
