You'd think Sammy & co have something up their sleeve. We're a little light on now.

If we don't get another big body in we're in for a tough season. Only have the stick insects up forward and not too much around them. Breust always goes alright. Hopefully Lewis' body stays together from now on.

Thinking that there is a plan underway...
If nothing else Kossy was a big unit.

If Lewis goes down again our key forward options will consist of Ryan and Rama who will get destroyed by the likes of May, Weitering, etc.

I don’t mind the idea of going after school after watching him last weekend against Box Hill, he’d be an upgrade in Kossy at the very least.

Going after Chol not after School of course 😉

We had the greatest run with injuries this season we’ve had in over 10 years and still really struggled, particularly in the forward line.

Expecting gradual improvement from Rama, but we need extensive recruitment in our kpp stocks and it’s clear that’s what the club is targeting.

Recently I like to compare demographics with 2006-2007

This is 2007 and 2023 I didn’t put the experience but 2007 has more weight and experience. Which can be fixed without wholesale recruiting Both have just one or two over 24

We have one quality KPP in Lewis, and he is yet to play out a full season due to injuries.

Blanck seems like an adequate player ATM and is young enough to continue to develop.

After the the cupboard is empty. Hopefully Rama, Ryan and Blanck take the next step in their development.

On a side note, maybe we can try Ryan at CHB as he is good in the air and has a long reach.

theres a lot of KPP/Ruck options for clubs this draft, i thought i would put some names out there

Jed Walter - KPF (GCS)
Dan Curtin - KPD
Ethan Read - KPP/RUCK(GCS)
Connor O'Sullivan - KPD
Nate Caddy - KPF
Mitch Edwards - RUCK
Will McCabe - KPD(HAW)
Ollie Murphy - KPD
Jordan Croft - KPF(WB)
Archer Reid - KPF/RUCK
Logan Morris - KPF
Wil Dawson - KPD/KPF
Michael Rudd - KPF
Lachlan Smith - RUCK
Taylor Goad - RUCK
Will Green - RUCK
Vigo Visentini - RUCK
Evan Smith - RUCK/KPF
Riley Weatherill - KPF
Zane Zakostelsky - KPD/RUCK
Charlie McCarmack - KPF(GWS)

i dont think i have seen this much KPP depth in 1 draft?

I quoted a post I made on my draft thread, this draft seems to have a lot of KPP options compared to most years, we have Will McCabe as a FS, but we could try and fix our KPP depth through the draft if we see value in some of these guys.

Walter, Curtin, Croft and Read are probably off the table

O'Sullivan, Caddy, Murphy and Edwards are also likely to go early and unless we get a 2nd pick or use our 1st on them it's unlikely we get either

Archer Reid is 203cm kpf/ruck, a bit inconsistent, but height and potential is an option
Logan Morris 192cm kpf/kpd, a bit short, but is a consistent performer and goal kicker
Wil Dawson 200cm kpd/kpf, kicked 4 in the vic country trial, then played as an impressive kpd in the champs, good kpp prospect
Michael Rudd 192cm kpf, has been on the radar, but finally put it all together at the champs for Vic Country, bit short?
Lachlan Smith 202cm ruck, a strongly built ruck, showed a lot of skill this year in the centre
Taylor Goad 205cm ruck, easily one of the best for SA this year, showed some contested marking skills and good ruck tap play
Will Green 204cm ruck, a ruck that is getting some hype, I have him in the same category as these previous rucks I mentioned
Vigo Visentini 203cm ruck, shared the ruck with Green for Vic metro and I thought there was little to no difference in performance, both have good qualities imo
Evan Smith 199cm kpf/ruck, has shown an ability to play kpf and ruck at a good level
Riley Weatherill 195cm kpf, has kicked 11 goals in 3 finals and is playing in the GF for Eastern Ranges this weekend
Zane Zakostelsky 196cm kpd, has been playing ruck for the colts team in finals, but looked a good prospect for WA at the champs w hen he played late in the champs as a defender

So past the first 25 or so picked I think these guys could be available
KPF/Ruck... E.Smith
Ruck... L.Smith, T.Goad, W.Green, V.Visentini
KPF... A.Reid, L.Morris, M.Rudd, R.Weatherill
KPD... Z.Zakostelsky
KPF/KPD... W.Dawson

This could rejuvenate our kpp stocks? With Will McCabe 197cm KPD coming in as well, it's a good chance to pick up a KPF or Ruck?

Thanks Davo. I have been a bit surprised we haven’t had a few more swings at kpp types with later picks - maybe this is the year.

Re McCabe do you see him as a genuine kpp or more a 3rd tall type?

If Kosi goes and possibly frost as well we are very thin.

McCabe's 197cm isn't he? You'd think he'd be a KPP at that height. For reference Brian Lake was 195cm.

Geez Roughy and Buddy were already physical beasts at only 20 (100kg and 103kg).

Players like DGB, Ramsden and Ryan (even Lewis to a degree) look super light in comparison.

Been a bit off a bug bear for me the last 6 years or so in that our conditioning team has seemingly made conscious effort to strip kilos from our playing list. This makes it dificult to bank enough wins over a long AFL season when lighter bodies start to fade after the crash and bash of the cold winter months.

Yes I’d like to see a balance of both.

Hodge and Lewis use to carry a bit in the early years, an I feel they where trimmed down later in there careers to prolong there careers.

I'm not sure what role he will fill, he has the height, but not necessarily the frame, has speed and is courageous in the contest, he has been used as a running back mostly when he isn't defending a target, I think he would be more 2nd KPD and Blanck our FB with Sicily playing the intercept role and Weddle the running back with Hardwick and probably Impey the other 2 back there, it's a young backline, but it looks good and covers all options.

Yes it's always a balance between strength and aerobic capacity but on average I have observed that most teams we put out over the last six years or so we're noticeably less developed and lighter than the opposition.

We have definetly made some progress re size in our midfield cohort with Newk, Nash, etc but our Key position players are in average extremely light for their respective heights.

Would be a real game changer IMOH if DGB, Ryan, Ramma, Blank, etc could put in 3 to 5 kilos in this off season.

It’s been mentioned but this is my defensive line and depth for 2024.

Hardwick - Blanck - Weddle
Seamus - McKay - Sicily
Impey

Others:
Serong - Frost - Scrimshaw
BMac - McCabe - CJ

Hardwick > He is clearly a lock in this side. He can lockdown anyone and in tandem with Seamus especially, he is a reliable but very good ball user & a calm experienced head.

Blanck > He will take the big bodies deep I assume, he started to intercept more but he just kills the ball, he’s a competitive beast and he is good both one on one and stopping a forwards lead, his closing speed is superb.

Weddle > He can probably make a move to the wing and I can see this as a possibility however not sure yet. But he’s gotta play. I unlike others rate his one on one ability and that means in the contest but also his closing speed. Everyone knows he can then overwork his man and is an absolute endurance beast and running man off half back with good skills and good intercepting.

Seamus > Has to play, locks down and is an animal with his fight for the contest. He’s lightning quick which helps him defensively to close the contest but also generally, offensively he’s a good kick who can kick at full tilt and runs off his man to great effect.

McKay > Huge in. Not sure where others see him but I’m a fan, he is a superb intercept mark and has solid skills, he is good at locking down aswell and has that good mix. He is highly talented and will get better in a better and new environment.

Sicily > Gun. Jet. Superstar. He locks down tall and small, he intercepts better than anyone. His ball use is pure class & he will be massive for a finals tilt.

Impey > His experience is still needed and he’s just a reliable player. Wins the footy and can lock his man down. He’s a two way reliable player and great team man.

The setup is two small defenders, Hardwick and Seamus, one who runs off HB. But link in locking down. Weddle/Sicily who can lock down the third tall and medium forwards. Whilst being damaging the other way. Blanck and McKay to take the two big key forwards.

CJ I heard is gonna train as a wing and I think that’s his best position for the future. Scrimshaw is very close and he’d be taking Weddles position. Weddle could play wing.

Serong is a good talent but I’m not sure where he sits. Frost this is probably the end for him. McCabe can develop & BMac will look to take the spot from Seamus or Impey.
McKay is a no. So for me, Serong is a very good chance of taking this spot.

With McKay & Esava deciding not to nominate the club and Kosi & possibly DGB leaving, you’d have to think that Jeka would be offered 1 more year.
