Well done to Melbourne great to come back.
Good things i noticed we as follows
- We seem to have an abundance of players who can kick - see stefan martin
- Sylvia (if you need this answered find a copy of the game)
- Melbourne is better without Robbo on the ground
- Melbourne can play competitive footy without Davey as the main man
- Paul Johnson has a BEAUTIFUL left kick

Bad things
- 50 something points down at various stages
- I don't know if we were really good at the or they just let us in
- ROBBO WTF

add more please :)

The scoreline was a bit misleading and we weren't great for the first three quaters.

Sylvia was great today though so it should be interesting to see if he can play this well consistently.

If Sylvia played like that every week, he'd be the best player to have ever graced the Earth.

No-one should be expecting 37 touches and 4 goals every week, but the application is what we want to see every week and I think we will get it. The consistency is coming with an extended run in the side without injury, not unlike Moloney.

today was a lesson in running. for three quarters of football they ran harder and smarter than us. they were constantly able to get 2 or 3 loose players in the corridor.

were it not for Hawthorn shutting up shop in the 4th we may not have got within 50

our loose man in defence was completely ineffective while Hawthorn were able to use theirs to hang off the back of packs and clear the ball or run into space out side the 50 and set up shots at goal.

it's no use flooding if we allow a side to take shots under no pressure from the 50 meter mark

...Sylvia had a good game

Agreed, we were alright for the first quarter, but a team like hawks should put us away, i have no support for hawks this year, they wont be damaging, the final 4 imo will be sydney, stkilda, geelong and perhaps Ess, just my opinion though :)

Agreed about the corridor Omit- we looked good when we did get loose through there, but didn't really work hard enough to do it often enough.

Positive- We played absolutely shit for 3 quarters yet still only lost by 22 points against the reigning premiers. Only had 2 less scoring shots.

It's official Brent Moloney has no brain whatsoever.

I love Beamer but he was playing on Mitchell and time after time after time Taylor would tap the ball behind and Mitchell would run onto it and clear it. Moloney did nothing to stop this after it happened the first 10 times and it pissed me right off.

To Everyone: Why did they put a 4th gamer onto the second best player (on form) at the moment Cyril Rioli. It doesn't make sense

At least we fought out the game last year that would have been a 100 point thrashing, but we were very poor today. I was also annoyed with the Grimes on Rioli matchup. Apart from Sylvia no one stood up to the challenge. Highlight of the day had to be Whelans front on tackle on Buddy. Lowlight was Robbos disgraceful decision to kick while lying on the ground.

Did anyone notice Junior "get angry" in the closing minutes of the third quarter? He was just running and knocking over anything brown and gold, I counted four hawks hit the deck in 1.5 minutes thanks to junior. I wouldn't be surprised if he came into the the 3/4 huddle fired up which may have rubbed off on the rest of the team.

Good show of heart to fight back from 9 goals down to then lose by 4. Agree with Col Silvia comments- not wanting that many touches/goals a week- but signs of consistency are promising

yeh i noticed that, not like junior to get so physical. good to see.

Good things:

- We look fit. Last 3 weeks we have finished games full of running whist the opposition are out on their feet.
- Apart from the first quarter and a half one on one rivers/frawley did a great job on Franklin.
- Stefan Martins contested marking. Far better forward line resting ruckman than we've ever had.
- Brocky playing with a bit more flair. Havent seen that for a while.

And of course SSSYYYYYYYYYYLLLVVIIAAAAAA!!!!!

Bad Things:

- Seeing how professional Hawthorn games are compared to our home games. Giving away 5 grand at half time, Tasmania competitions etc.
- Millers inability to back himself EVER. Handballing running into an open goal just sums it up.
- Robbo.

Grimes did as good a job as anyone in our team could. Like Aaron Davey all you can do to Rioli is keep him quiet, you can never shut him down completely because he is just too quick. I thought Grimes kept him as well as you can, and there were just times when Rioli was simply too good. But Garland, Grimes, Cheney and Bennell are all young footballers who have given a season or two can improve a heap and really keep him quiet.

To those who say we were horrible for 3 quarters and good in the last I'm basing my thoughts around the first 3 because whilst I don't agree totally I didn't care much for the last besides the fact they fought it out. I thought we played like an inexperienced side in a pressure cooker environment for the first 3 quarters, and with the tiniest bit more composure (see Miller, Robbo) and a bit of a hand (IN THE BACK) from the umpires we would have been only 3 goals down, not 40 odd points. With both teams not at full fitness (3 back from injury this week) or personnel I'd say a 3 goal margin at 3 quarter would be fair. It was disappointing not to be in a game the whole time like the last few weeks, but it was still some reasonable footy, especially because with both teams zoning we played them at their own game.

Who was the crunt who got the handball, spun around and hit the post? Was that Rioli? ****ing unbelievable goal that would have been. Bateman's attempt that Frawley got to wasn't bad either.

Yeah it was Rioli. Wouldn't have heard the end of it if that went in for a goal.

Respect for Juniors heavy hitting!
Not having a go at Junior, cause he tackles well most weeks. But how about doing it from the start of a game, and getting the other 21 in on the act. Just for one week, especially against the saints it would be a site to see.

Anyone else think early in the game Bartram might have been a worthy inclusion on Bateman, he was tearing Bruce a new one. Brucey responded well, but might be at his best on a back flank for the rest of his career. Morton tried to chase Chance around as well.

- ROBBO WTF

This.

Does anyone else remember last year Robbo against St.Kilda (Who were low on confidence at the time) taking a mark in the goalsquare in the first few minutes of the game, playing on and Hudghton smothered the kick?

I thought of that game as soon as Robbo did it.

Honestly I hope Bailey tore him to shreds, that was a disgusting piece of football.

Good things

1. We are taking the game on and taking risks. Win, lose or draw I'd rather us play free flowing footy and take risks than play the gutless crap we played at times last year and the year before. Good on ya Dees and Bailey
2. Col, Maric and Green
3. Our fitness and ability to run out games.

Bad Things

1. Brad Miller - He plays like he thinks he's indigenous but he hasn't got the skills or the football brain. How many goals did he mess up yesterday? Hopeless
2. Sloppy skills (but this will happen when we are taking the game on and taking risks so although its a negative its inevitable for the time being).
3. Brad Miller
4. Brad Miller

Good point re scoring shots; had we have converted a few very gettable opportunities, we might not have been so far down. The amount of times we'd miss, say, three set shots in a row only to have Hawthorn bang one straight through the middle immediately thereafter...

The positive I took out of the game was that they had 2 more scoring shots than us.

The past month of footy we have been a bit lucky through accurate kicking to have not been blown out of the water.
