Hawthorn Game

We'll probably lose by under a goal, much like most of our recent games against them.

The end result is accademic now, we should start thinking and planning ahead for season 2004.

You can't plan season 2004 without taking the rest of 2003 into consideration. There's 14 more rounds to go, and that's plenty of time to worsen the damage, or start to get things moving in the right direction. The longer we sit round moaning "2003 is over" the more jeopardy we put 2004 in. It's never too early to start fixing things up, and to do so against the Hawks this week would be as good a place to start 2004 as anywhere else.

perhaps he recognises our need for a crumbing forward and is campaigning for those two to be down at geelong...?

Regardless, the bleeding of the last several weeks' defeats, that's got to end sometime. Might as well be this weekend, and in all honesty, I think it will be.

Also read something on another board, with regard to the rest of the season and draft position, and I think it was rather profound and applies to Geelong here...

Sure, it would be nice to have the extra picks, and to do so, to finish in last or next-to-last on merit (or lack thereof). But does it make any sense to tank the season? My opinion is that if you do that, go out and lose every game, not only does it risk bringing the game into disrepute, but would Geelong's management really get a true indication on what the team's weaknesses truly are, or where they actually lie?

Regardless, the Cats have been playing hard in the last few weeks, they should continue to do so. And perhaps there can be a "happy medium" between getting a 3-5 more wins this season which would be good for the morale of the club and still be in a good drafting position.

With that having been said, Cats by 27 over the Hawks. :)

Messrs Costa and Thompson still believe we are top 4 material, so obviously finding the clubs weaknesses aren't high on their agenda.

We are top 4 material, just not this year.

They should never have dropped McCarthy after the first round. We had a structure that worked really well in the Wizard Cup with the 3 tall forwards, but one failure and we push the panic button and go back to the set up of the last 6 games of 2002.

Then they need a massive reality check, IMO. The current table, it does not lie.

They need to fix what's happening, whether it be now or at the end of the season. Otherwise, they're just being delusional (moreso Thompson than anyone else, since he's the one most directly responsible for what's happening or not appening on the field of battle).

Welcome to the world of Geelong.

There has been a long tradition of blaming everyone but themselves at the GFC. This season is the medias fault (i'm looking at you William ;) ).

Until they look within for the problems, we will continue to struggle to make any ground on the big boys.

You're absolutely right phatandphreaky.

Geelong really hasn't done anything different to what they did 10, 20, even 30+ years ago and in that time, we haven't been a successful club... go figure!!

Like I've said before, with what Jen and I wrote slightly less than a month ago, our "he said, she said" piece on SportsAustralia.com, we're surprised that we're even still welcome at the GFC. :D

Seriously, though, someone's gotta call a spade a spade. Might as well be me...

The sooner they address their problems, the better off they're going to be.

Also, as I've said before, the moment someone at that club, starting with the coach, starts accepting the blame for what's happened instead of making excuses, then the club will be better equipped to move forward.

Enough with what the supposed "traditions" of this club are, real and those tongue-in-cheek... it's time to create some new traditions by going in other directions of thought and philosophy.
