I think it's a relevant debate because you are looking at our most important player for structure vs our most important player for leadership/organisation/heartbeat/etc

Mitchell is probably our best player, wouldn't of thought he'd be more important than Rough or Hodge. Mitch missed 10 odd games last year and we won a majority of them. Roughy missed a couple and we lost them both.

still think we have more depth in KPD stocks than KPF.
Lake and Gibbo missed games last year and we coped with their understudies. Same cannot be said for Roughy going down

It's a tuff call but it has to be Roughy:

1. There's really no Roughy replacement at the moment (which is a worry).

2. I think we could survive a season without Hodge but no Roughy = No hat trick.

Same argument could be mounted for Hodge, who missed 10 games in 2012 & yet we still secured top spot on the ladder despite his absence....Only reason we fell over at the final hurdle there, was due to a one dimensional attack & a jelly legged Buddy!

I reckon you put the ruckmen a bit low. Hale should be the least important ruckman out of McEvoy, Ceglar and Hale because he is the oldest and if one of Cegs or McEvoy leaves we have to find another ready made young ruckman.

Hale is much more versatile than McEvoy and Ceglar. Admittedly both of those guys have a much better upside but as of the last game they all played I think Hale offers more to the team. I feel like we have won all 3 of our premierships without a major contribution from the ruckman. It's open to debate though. I'm sure some people put more value on the role of a pure ruckman that I do.

O'Brien very low down both these team long lists so far. Given our distinct lack of KPF depth his importance to the club is significantly higher than that.

Hale also too low on both lists. Pretty underrated given he's decent in the ruck and causes nightmares for opposition with how well he can contribute in the forward line.

Read your list from the bottom up and was preparing a huge bake along the lines of 'How the fk could you possibly have Puopolo 18th, Smith 16th and Shiels 15th?!' Then I read the rest of the list and realised that wow we have 18 super players.

Adds weight to the theory it's the bottom 5 players that win you flags.

While I don't fully agree with Smith as low as you have him, I'd find it hard to argue putting him that much higher than the others except maybe Langford who gets a few extra credits for being a true Hawk imo.

I've listed who i think are locks for the team 18 players…order can be argued and debated…outside this 18 is Mccevoy Frawley Duryea Suckling Orourke Jed Anderson Litherland Spangher Whitecross Simpkin Ceglar Shoenmakers Woodward Obrien Sicily….that's gets us to 33 players ….so yes from that we can put a case that we have good depth….the key is not to have too many injuries from the top 18 at the pointy end of season & also the improvement from players #12 to #25
