Bigfooty is getting good at recommending quality programming.

True that, I get all my recommendations from the discerning folk on this board.

Currently working my way through The Wire (brilliant show, thanks bigfooty) after seeing the massive rep it has on this board and I'm amazed how many people I talk to have never even heard of it, let alone watched it. This board is far ahead of the curve of the average tv watcher.

The Wire is massively critically acclaimed, I think the reason why so many people have never heard of it is because it was televised before downloading became so prevalent.

The Wire is brilliant, True Detective not so much.

I guess you could say most television shows have their lulls - as season 2 of The Wire was some of the most boring tv I've ever watched.

Chill out bro. No need to take it personally. I'm sure he can probably deal with criticism of the show. Take a leaf and all that. Time to move on champ.

Anyway, many have recommended 'The Wire' and I've never got around to watching it. Is on my 'to do' list.

I enjoyed season 2 - good story and good characters. I guess over a 5 season show there will inevitably some who do not enjoy a certain season as much as others. However, an 8 episode show which has received major critical praise should be able to sustain interest for the entire season and not fall flat on its arse in such a diabolical way in the last three episodes. Each to their own.

Probably time for you to pack up?

The pace definitely changed when they caught up to the present day.

I loaned my DVD of the first season of the Wire to a mate once, he didn't even get through the prologue before handing it back coz he couldn't understand any of the dialogue.
DVDs are so 2012

(No seriously, I would like to borrow your DVD. I've currently go no computer or Internet except my phone. I'm having to rely on DVDs for the time being and it sucks. First world and all that)

Season two was the one that really got me hooked. The last season was the let down for me.

I didn't care for that 'serial killer' storyline, even if it did provide that brilliant scene where the FBI describe the likely characteristics of the killer to McNulty

Mate, it's only a show. Time to move on. So, I didn't like the ending.

I can pretend to if you like!
They're the most touchy bunch I've ever come across, the True Detective fans. No room for criticism. You only dislike the finale and have been pilloried. The finale was heavily criticised by numerous viewers and critics. Me, I don't like the last three episodes.

I think it had its good points, I just found the dock characters a bit weak.

Yep, very much getting this impression.

Have a read through my comments FFS. I say, "great show", "excellent" and "some of the best TV I've seen" and, because I've criticised the ending (whilst respecting that people have different opinions) I've been labelled as 'carrying on' and 'crying about it'

Whilst I have disengaged with a number of posters, it is disappointing to see a moderator continually bait and refuse to let it go.

Oh well, perhaps one just has to accept it's "universally adored" (!!!!)

Anyway, at the time it was showing, I remember people talking about it and also hating the ending/leaving disappointed.

I guess real life is different to internets.

As I said, hope Season 2 is as good but with a better finish.

All I'm saying is that you were bound to cop some negative opinions, so you shouldn't get your dim sims in a tangle over it.

And it was universally adored.

I think with short run shows like TD that producers are often on a hiding to nothing when it comes to endings mainly because if viewers have fully engaged with the show & characters, then they don't want it to see it end &, subconsciously or otherwise, are never going to be truly satisfied.

The TD finale probably wasn't up to the standard of the show as a whole, but it is far far from the worst ending going around.
