Still enough going on to keep watching though, especially with the ending to ep 2.

I really liked it.

Farrell (Vintarro? Or something) isnt a philosoper like Rust Cohle

I think the lines have been really true to character. For the most part.

I wouldn't know if the writing was bad or not in some scenes...mumbling with mouthfuls of marbles in some cases.

Rachel Mc is and always has been hot fwiw.

That stuff he said to his woman about this being all her doing was very off too I reckon. It sounded to me like when you hear of child victims of sexual abuse saying their abuser made them feel like they were to blame for it all, I might be reading too much into that but I definitely got the impression he was repeating that line from a time when something similar was said to him.

Add in the fact that they've clearly established he has a rocky relationship with his mother and has issues spending the night with another and it seems like he's definitely been through some shit.

I think he was abused by men as a child, is actually gay and hates it.
Combined with that mention of black water who gunned down civilians in Iraq makes me think he also has some PTSD and the girlfriend just can't see that he needs support, not more sharp edges to come up against.

Decent episode, but **** does Pizzolato write lines that might seem good on paper but when said aloud sound stupid as ****.

I think the problem is he's getting carried away with it. He struck gold with Cohle and in turn with McConaghey, but it's just not working this season. Some of the dialogue is downright horrible.

The acting ranges from good to shocking as well. Vaughan and Kitsch simply aren't skilled out to pull of the nonsense they are sprouting. Liking McAdams and Farrell, who seem to be battling through strained writing to far better effect.

Lin might be the worst though. This is rich coming from my sitting at home about a guy who's been handed the Star Trek franchise, but a lot of just looks amateur. Too many slow zooms, cuts in conversation and meaningful looks. Stinks of trying too hard.

All this being said, the actual plot is interesting and I'm willing to lower my expectations, accept the flaws and continue watching what is still good television.

agree the show has a few issues, Vaughn isn't working (& imo the article below pretty much nails why) but the story is working for me so far, see what happens.
