This show is looking like a classic. That final scene was actually quite scary/intimidating.

Was very similar to the reveal of BOB in 'Twin Peaks', in terms of the fear/indimidation factor:

This show is awesome so far by the way. Absolutely cannot wait for the next episode (bloody Super Bowl!).

There is no episode this week because of the Superbowl. Episode 4 won't be on until Sunday 9 Feb.

God damn. That ending was simple, yet quite freaky.

Like how they're painting Marty as the messed up one after setting everyone up to think Rust was the one that was up to some weird shit.

And yes, fk you Superbowl. Any chance the snow will be too bad and they change the date?

Absoutely loving his character and this show at the moment. That first scene where they were at the makeshift church was brilliant.

Why? Hope it’s not because of Cohle’s tired congratulatory self-serving spiel that atheists tell themselves ad nauseam to feel superior to another group of people. For mine anyone that needs to denigrate others to feel better about their place in the world come across as more pathetic than their original intended target.

Anyway I thought the opening scene was good as far as providing a lot insight into Cohle’s character and what makes him tick. But even then I thought it was a little self-indulgent, going for far too long than was necessary. Then again TV and Hollywood love to stick the boot on a soft religious target as often as they can.

It's a highly intelligent mindset that can only be formed from a place of depression and isolated self loathing that is absolutely spot on.

I love the scathing analysis of the church goers, yet he couldn't see that his position and blindness are the exact same arrogance and self importance he was critizing, just from the counter point of a supposedly superior intellect. Then you cut out to the present day Cohle and you see his own lessons have been learnt over time, though he is still the same depressed arseh*le, he now understands its all just his warped bullshit perspective.

Brilliantly subtle development of an incredibly flawed character, spot on to reality, unlike I've personally seen portrayed before.

So far this show is exceeding my expectations and they were high:thumbsu:

That's it in a nutshell. I watched hoping for a great show and so far it's well beyond that.

I've never been so hooked on a show and invested in multiple characters after just 3 episodes (the only one I can think of that may even come close was Deadwood).

Fantastic show, love the format, love the execution. :thumbsu:

So far I think I've read that there's a cliche ending if it's either MM or Woody, or if it's a peripheral character that ends up being the killer.

What distinguishes BB from TD is that BB had an original story line no one had seen before, we didn't know where to look. Cop shows are everywhere, so the ending will be cliche in one way or another because literally every ending has been explored, it's more about how it gets us there. If you expect something you've never seen in a cop show, it'll be difficult to be impressed.

Do many cop shows end ambiguously? I reckon it's entirely possible it ends with a few leads that may have been overlooked the first time around, but no concrete answer, just that the first time around they got it wrong, and here's where they maybe should have looked, but the trail has gone cold.

After all, neither of the two main characters are cops any more, so they won't play any role in arresting any suspects or anything like that. It would be quite a shake up in the formula for the two doing the interviewing to connect the dots themselves and then go out and arrest a suspect (which I guess is enough of a reason to do it in a show like this).

Highly doubt it's either of the main characters. The two cops investigating it in the present day clearly suspect Cohle a little, and him being charged seems too convenient, and it would be very Keyser Soze for him to walk out of there guilty but not charged. Marty seems a little too plain/normal for the whole "show" that the killings were meant to be.

Interesting. I thought maybe his brother - the pastor.

My theory is if it isn't directly him, he's using his influence to help cover for someone. That whole quick solution of the taskforce hinted at a cover up of sorts.

also he was the captain of the ship in wolf of wall street, (and done a few other things,) good for him, he's getting roles everywhere

David Russell seems to like him a lot as well.

Another terrific episode with some fantastic accents. McConaughey knocking it out of the park.

For those that can't wait. The promo for episode 4 looks amazing.

Shit is about to get real.

I can;t wait...

You know, saying to the missus today that every episode is so dense, so full of quality content, that it feels like we've watched more than 3 episodes. That's the quality for you.

Eli Thompson's career has taken a very strange turn

Nice to see him starting to pop up all over the place, he's pretty underated in Boardwalk Empire I reckon.

Banging ep, much better than episode 2 I thought. Seems like the longer this show goes, the more you start to realise Marty is the unhinged one rather than Rust. Loved the scene where he goes round to his mistress' drunk, then jump back to present day and he's saying "boundaries are good/necessary" or something, lol. Obviously what he's telling the black detectives doesn't match up exactly with what we're seeing on screen, which makes you wonder what he's not saying in the interview that we are seeing relating to the case.

Looks insane, damn super bowl

So season 2 will comprise of a completely different cast and story?
If they hit the mark as they have, along with the two big names in S1 they might again cast some high end talent.
