******* scared the s**t out of me

found out wife has never seen season one. now 3 episodes in.

its a masterpiece
‘…and like a lot of dreams….there’s a monster at the end of it…’

Chilling.

When did they reference Travis being a Cohle?
It's set up in s01 when Rust back to Alaska to look after his dad who is dying of leukaemia. This his dad is named Rustin then.
Rest of it is conjecture afaik. Would be a hoot if the writers are just ****ing with us and it's a different Travis who was in Alaska with leukaemia.

I picked up the Tuttle reference etc. but not that one
Its confirmed at 8.30 into the 2nd episode when Navarro visits Rose. '1 last gift from Travis Cohle'

People complain about the tropes in this, but I thought that was deliberate, hence the pulpy name. This week we had someone taking their secrets to the grave, but in a fun new way. We don't even know if the message was from the other side, do we? I mean Navarro's mum merely disappeared, didn't she?

Aun one else still watching this?

Yeah, I'll watch it to the end now. But we're half way through the season and there's been little plot. At least there was some detective work in the latest episode. The Navarro character is growing on me (and Kali Reis' acting). I'm thinking, like her sister, she has her own mental issues, causing her to have hallucinations. Which might explain the supernatural stuff, a bit like Rust's drug induced visions in S1.

Ep 2 hinted that - Travis is Rust's Dad, mysterious spirals, Tuttle corp, "ask the right questions" - as though it was a sequel to the first season. But then, no further mention, as though they were clumsy fanservice references to the first season. It's watchable but I feel I'm watching a tribute band to the real True Detective we saw in S1.

I wonder if Blue King (the name of the crab factory) is supposed to be a reference to Yellow King.

FWIW the woman working there is missing fingers, just like the picture of the boogie monster the kid drew (which I'm pretty sure was blue). Lots of blue actually, the room being painted by Angry Dad was "too blue".
This week: blue hair dye, blue fishing shack.
My Spidey senses are tingling!!!

BIG TIP: Keep your eyes peeled (that's a pun) on Orange as well. The **** is with the Orange.
Loved the amputee just waking from the dead and saying mystical shit to the eskimo cop.

Getting really frustrated with this show now. There was about 10 minutes plot and 45 minutes subplot. Mail order bride, troublesome daughter, blue haired sister, simp boyfriend, junior cop's family, previous boss **** buddy, local rednecks. I'm not sure what the Fiona Shaw character is. I don't care!!!

I was hitting the FF button. The needle drops didn't hide how little there was of substance in this episode.

Could genuinely have watched the last five minutes only.

Did anyone else laugh when Danvers complained about her superior stepping in for a "standard body transfer" or whatever it was? I was wondering in what world was moving the frozen mass of 6 naked dead men a routine event haha.

The episode was creepy as hell though. I've still got no idea what the f is going on.

Got annoyed with a few things through the middle part of that episode, felt a bit clichèd maybe, but that last 10 mins brought it back in a big way. They're keeping it dark. No idea how they'll wrap it up or if they'll tie anything back to S01. Acting has been good, especially John Hawkes
