Heath Black Trade

As a Saints supporter this is the trade that I think is reasonable for Heath Black.

Heath Black + pick 23 to Fremantle, Fremantles pick 12 to St Kilda.

What do you guys reckon?

If we trade pick 12 we will miss out on Surjan. I would prefer to see what we can get for Koops and maybe use that in a trade for black (most probably a three-way trade).

Heath Black = 1 slab of VB.... nah, you keep him

i hear there is pretty shallow talent in the draft this year.....pick 23 isnt worth much

maybe just pick 12 for heath black.....i personally don't rate heath

I hope freo dont trade croady, he is still capable of doing anything and has only had 1 shocking year at freo. He's got all the physical attributes of being a quality player but can't read the play very well, CC needs to simplify the game for him and face him towards goal, then he can just grab the ball and run rugby style and lay the boot into it.

Looks like I have to bump up my earlier offer from HB + 4th to HB + 3rd for Croad and we still have to pay out the rest of his contract.

doesnt have the 'physical attributes' (we all know what that means) to compare to despotovski now does he kingclud?!

It isn't shallow, its just the players are extremely even this year, therefore a greater quantity of quality players, just not distinguishable stratus of star juniors.

I think its a very strong draft actually

Given that we will probably trade Croad for a first round pick, I would trade black for pick 12. But I guess we have to remember that even after he had his best season for us, we still only managed to get pick #17 for him. But if the saints were to throw in pick 23 it could even up the deal.

No I didn't Create that by myself but it is appropriate for you.

I Disagree.

Croad for pick 9 or 10 is an absolute bargain, and bargains don't come around too often at the trading table. It would therefore be ridiculous to give it all away for Black.

By all means, give St Kilda our second rounder for Black, or even Koops if we can't get a first rounder for him.

The fact is, Black wants to leave St Kilda to play with us next season and St Kilda know that, so after getting a better than expected deal for Croad we must play hard ball with St Kilda.


IMO, the best scenario to come from trade week would be the following:

GAIN:
2x first round picks
Heath Black

LOSE:
Trent Croad
Steven Koops
Second round pick

Koops for a first rounder may be wishful thinking, but there are still many clubs that are interested in him and as we saw last year with Brown, some clubs may be prepared to trade one of their first rounders if they have an abundance of them, which is why I think we are waiting for all the major deals to go through before trading him. Otherwise, a direct swap for an early second round pick will suffice.

According to today's copy of The Age

Heath Black may return to Fremantle, with the Dockers giving up their first choice to the Saints (pick 12).

I doubt that it would go ahead, as much as I would love it to be the case.

We traded #17 to Fremantle for Black, and after two average years at St Kilda, I'd find it hard to believe that we would return him to Freo for #12.

That's today's news concerning Black anyway. Like everything this week we will be hearing a different story this time tomorrow.

I agree. We traded Black for pick 17 in 2001 after he finished second in our best and fairest and it would be fair to say that if anything, he has gone backwards whilst at St Kilda. I'm praying CC, Icke and co. don't trade our first rounder for Black, as much as I'd like him back.

Would you accept pick 27 for him, Sainter?

as a sainter we hoped for more from black, but while he was happy to come back to Vic, his missus wasn't and it seems she's the driver for him going back.

at pick 12 we think its a bargain, obviously freo think its a bargain, and we've already sent our rnd 2 pick else where.

i think black will be a better player for freo than he was with the saints.

if your missus is happy, you are happy (unless your missus is kelli stevens, in which case, if she's happy you can be certain your not happy!)

many sainters are unhappy to lose black, but glad we are not getting croad.

black is only 24/25 and a great kick, but he just didn't fit in at st kilda.

if freo players welcome him back, im sure he'll form a part of your finals tilt next year.

he'll be a hard player to replace, as he was, when he wanted to be, a very very physical player, something he wasn't at freo.

watching him body slam guys against the brisbane game (and they are a hard sight) got saitners excited that black was back, but unfortunately as he became more miserable so his form dropped off.

wishing black all the best (not being sarcy or snide, he was definately in our best 18 at his best) not looking forward to playing against him.

A first rounder for Croad is a huge win for us...

A first rounder for Heath is... NOT.

Second round and we're getting close, or a swap for Koops if he is still determined to go.

BUT KEEP THE FIRST ROUND PICK... unless we can use it on an established "star" in the 20-23 age bracket that fits the bill of what we need.
Heath is none of the above.

CC, Icke, Smart, Schwab etc... I hope you're listening: 'DO NOT TRADE A FIRST ROUND PICK FOR BLACK!' He was traded for pick 17 two years ago when his trade value was significantly higher and St Kilda know that he wants to leave them to play with us next season, so we should be able to force a deal involving our second rounder or Koops (if we can't get a first rounder for him).

During my uni break tomorrow, I'll be afraid to log on to the computer to read that we've traded pick 12 for Black.

Latest rumour to be floated on Dockerland...

Croad to Hawthorn for their first pick (#10 I believe) + Brett Johnson (don't know much about him).

Koops + our first pick (#12) to Port for Josh Carr.

Have no ideas where it came from or how much truth there is in it, but it kinda makes sense, and looks kinda good.

Then maybe it would be 2nd rounder to StK for Black.
