Well I guess it's about time we created a Heavy Rain thread.

What do we know about Heavy Rain so far?

Publisher: SCEE
Developer: Quantic Dream
Platform: PlayStation 3.
Single Player (Rumoured to have a multiplayer component)
Release Date: Late 2009, Q4 2009.

(Stolen from GameTrailers).
Quantic Dream started working on Heavy Rain in February 2006. Details about the story and gameplay of Heavy Rain itself remain scarce. It is known that the game is not a sequel to Fahrenheit, but a completely new game, with new story and new characters.

Director David Cage noted that Heavy Rain "will be a very dark film noir thriller with mature themes", without any supernatural elements. The game will feature a story that is interactively "bendable", similar to Fahrenheit. It's been told by the creators that "the character control mechanism is an essential part in playing Heavy Rain", and is different from the system used in Fahrenheit. The player will be able to control different characters in the game.[citation needed] In a recent interview given by Quantic Dream co-CEO and executive producer Guillaume de Fondaumi

What console is it coming out on?;):D

Anyway, to give my thoughts, so far, this game is looking brilliant, a 4000 page script and gameplay that will play more like an interactive movie just sounds so, so enticing.

I don't know if I have seen such photo-realistic graphics before on a console, in fact, I haven't, the screenshots/artwork I posted a week or so ago shows how damn good this game looks, with one of them being hard to actually tell if it is a game shot, or real!

Hopefully we can get more info/trailers/screens for this game soon though as it is one of my highest anticipated games for the future, E3 would seemingly be the perfect chance, but MAG might be the marquee title for Sony at E3, then again, there should be plenty still to show and hopefully it gets a run.

A solid release date would be good too, although the devs have said 2009, but who knows, this game is gonna be big, so I would hope they take their time with the game to give the best product possible.

Might as well put this in here

thought ill share this with all of use since i stole it from another site.

dont know how to make the screens big!
Its still readable

Its a good read but it doesnt reveal anything about the game though.
please dont quote

Nice OP Kerrbs. I'm still undecided on this game, although I can see it being extremely interesting.

Next thread - id Software's 'Rage'. :thumbsu:

Did you play Farenheight on the PS2?

I have it on xbox. Was very good I thought. Didn't get to far into it (which is normal for me with most games), but was one I always wanted to get back to. Heavy Rain sounds a bit like Fahrenheit how the story changes depending what you do. Can't wait for Heavy Rain.

Those newer pics in the Ps3 news thread are very impressive, if anyone hasn't seen those, you should check em out.

Emo boy says: not enough crying......

Biggy boy they are all crying because lifes not fair, mum and dad won't let me watch South Park, I don't like that show because this one time they made fun of emos but I am not a caged animal. Also they are crying because the girl next door stabbed my heart by closing her curtains.

Heavy Rain is coming out exclusively for the PlayStation 3.

:)
WHAT! OMG! PS3 FTW!:thumbsu:

It most likely sounds like Fahrenheit, because it is from the makers of the game, this will most likely stay very close to that game in gameplay at least, maybe will expand a bit more though.

I'm skeptical of this, mostly because it's billing itself as an interactive movie. Making a film interactive would seem to go against (almost) everything that makes them interesting in the first place.

The whole idea of it sounds almost like a Choose Your Own Adventure book, sure it's fun when you are young but no one is going to sit down and read an interactive version of Lord of the Rings ("The Balrog rises up before you. To scream "YOU SHALL NOT PASS!" and do magic, turn to Paragraph 34. If you wish to challenge him to a riddle contest, turn to Paragraph 435).

Or what if star wars had ended with a climactic battle between Vader and Biggs because you accidentally killed off Luke in the opening act? What if Greedo shot Han? What if Luke and Leah hooked up and had creepy incest babby together? It just sounds like there will be 1 (at best) good story arc and about 90 shit ones

Having said that, if Quantic Dreams are serious about doing a mature story (proper mature, not **** and decapitated goblins) then that can only be a good thing. And, as others have said, the visuals look great at the moment. If the final game looks anywhere near as good as the pics/trailers appear to be, then it will be worth playing just to see it in action. And if they CAN get this whole interactive movie thing right, well... :thumbsu:

I think the whole 'interactive movie' your thinking of it a bit different to the style that Heavy Rain is aiming for(From what I know/have heard/read), it won't be a choose your destiny type of thing, will be more (Almost) every action has a concequence and can change the story because of it.

IMO though, many movies would work pretty well with an 'interactive' style, hell even Final Destination 3 had it as a feature on their DVD, although not overly well implemented or used, but there would be a ton of movies I could think of that would do well with an 'interactive' element to them.

You have to remember though, Star Wars (Probably) wasn't written specifically to have changing and differring story arcs that can affect the biggest part of the story, most of the different story arcs the game will take will no doubt be written just as well as the rest of the story and most likely won't ruin any flow the game has, I would highly doubt it will a pick a card and see how the deck falls type of game/story.

Going by one of the artwork pictures in my first screenshots post, there will be ****, but it won't be a gratuitous sort of thing like a God of War, more in line with the story(Or so I guess).

Spot on.

The bad thing is, with 4000+ pages of script, it would take a hell of a lot of play throughs to mix up all the combinations.

Who knows? Maybe that's a good thing.

Really won't be known until the game comes out I guess, could be a fantastic thing if the story is solid and has a lot to be gained from several playthroughs(ie Finding new things out about characters, expanding different arcs, exploring different areas of the game and story, etc.), but if it ends up being relatively the same each time with no real new info gained or new expansion to the story or just completely different arc then it could turn out to be a bad thing.

Will be something to watch and wonder how it will be pulled off though, could be something absolutely amazing if it works.

You are probably right there, to be honest I'm having a bit of trouble getting my head around how it's going to work. Probably best to wait and see!

I honestly couldn't think of one (halfway decent) film that would work better with interactivity. I think you'd lose FAR more than you'd gain. Without sounding like a smarmy prick, could you name one or two, and explain why they would?

There's far more to a film than just the story though, which is my main concern. But, as you say, I'm clearly not really understanding what the game is about (and since this thread tbh has made me more interested in the game than I was yesterday afternoon!), I'm gonna check out some previews and read up a little more on it sometime soon...

Haha yeah, absolutely nothing wrong with boobs! Like you say, I was more commenting on how a lot of games use gratuitous nudity and violence at you and call it 'mature'. I have nothing against breasts! Nothing!

I'm not gay. Seriously!

Probably the first thing that springs to mind, and seemingly the most obvious, would be Horror movies, we've all been in that position in a good horror movie(hell even in a shit one, maybe even more so) where we go "If only they could" or "I wish they could die" or "I wish they could live" and being able to actually DO/choose that would be interactivity that could work, that's the sort of 'interactivity' that could benefit a movie, then again, I did say that movies could work pretty well with an interactive type system in it, doesn't mean that all of them would, hell doesn't really mean that any would work at all, but I think some could benefit from an interactive element.

Basically though, the reason why movies don't work properly with an interactive element to them, is because they aren't written that way, or just are written so well that they wouldn't need it.

I think the main thing to remember is that, this is still a game, not a movie, it will be written with everything that could change it and make it worse in mind and it won't really be a movie in literal terms.

I think reading up on it a little more will definetly help some, I think you might be taking the 'interactive movie' term a little too on the literal side of things.

The best way I think I could describe it(that's even if I get what it is going to be), is that it will play a little big like an MGS game(To be a bit more specific MGS4), only not so, or at least less self indulgent, basically I am guessing there will be a lot of cutscenes with a ton of interactivity in those scenes, some proper controlled moments, some point and click elements, and probably a bunch of stuff that nobody actually knows about.

That's probably as close as I could explain/describe it from what I know right now, and in terms of what the 'interactive movie' might mean, hope it helps.
