Henderson is not Fevola

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

We will probably be repeating this year in terms of ladder position with Fev now gone. Anything higher and I'll be absolutely wrapped.

I am expecting 7-8 again next year :D

If we can snaffle a higher position, then I would be on the piss for a week :D

We now set up as forward team.

Fev gone, you don't replace that, you come from a different angle.

It doesn't stop players leading, marking and goaling, it just means that our play will come more from mid fielders running through 50 and forwards marking or crumbing inside 50 and goaling.

No goals outside or on 50 really.

It was so easy in the past for opposition teams, now there is uncertainty.

It is up to us to "develop" a strong team now.

We will do well, Henderson can probably move straight in and provide a target.

We will be ok, plus imagine how many guys get resigned now with front ended contracts as we have room with Fev and possible Stevo gone.

Blues Mach 2 is here.

Nothing against Hendo, I'm sure he is a great bloke and an outstanding footballer, but every year for the last 6 or 7 I log onto the forums and read about all of these great kids with leadership qualities that 'could be anything', just need to give them 3 years and develop them. The names Livingston and Hartlett come to mind. Every other club is probably the same but very few of those kids actually turn into the superstars of the comp. We've just delisted one of the aforementioned today apparently. Hopefully Henderson is one of those kids that becomes a superstar, but until then I'm having trouble finding something to get excited about besides 'potential'.

Top post and very rational.

I had already been at bigfooty for over year when flogs like The General started populating this board with drivel about Luke Livingston, Trent Sporn, Blake Campbell, Callan Beasy, Adam Hartlett etc. being the future of the club when it is was obvious to everyone else at bigfooty these guys were duds.

You have nominated 2 players who both suffered significant injuries in the early stage of their career & were not able to string together consecutive pre-seasons, or get on the field regularly.

So far it would seem that Hendo has avoided the same fate as Hartlett & Livo & therefore is already ahead of both Hartlett & Livo in development.

My expectation is he will be a good AFL player next year. 3rd year in the system for a top 10 pick, time to deliver.

Hasn't even got our jumper on yet and it's time to deliver? FFS...

Just had a look at the career stats of the current top forwards. Seems there is a pretty common trend where they mainly hit their straps in their 4th year with the exception of Franklin who kicked 73 in year 3. Let's hope our two 3rd year players Kreuzer and Hendo show a little bit next year which could set us up for future seasons....

Figures start from their first year in the league:

Riewoldt- 2, 21, 30, 67
Franklin- 21, 31, 73, 113
Roughead- 6, 12, 40, 75
Brown- 5, 38, 14, 27, 35
Fev- 26, 27, 13, 63

a couple of others:
T. Cloke- 10, 6, 39, 40
J. Kennedy- 5, 6, 7, 31
Tippett- 17, 55 (ahead of schedule)

who ever expected him to be a top notch forward straight away doesnt know what there talking about. I actually havnt seen someone as yet think this, thou.

What we need is at least one of Kreuzer and Hendo to get to around 30 next year to show they're on an upward curve and have a future as top forward. Any more would be a bonus you'd think.

Short term it will be tough next year, but long term this a great deal for Carlton. Next year I would play Kruezer at FF and Henderson at CHF and Waite on the flank. This deal is 100% better then the previous because it is about the future. I am sure with pick 12 Carlton will draft the best available KPP another tall option up forward hopefully Temel.

I still wish we kept Fev, but its time to move on and support this young Carlton team next year.

Yarran Kruezer Betts

Walker Henderson Waite

Fev will be remembered as a great Carlton player.

They might take the pressure straight off him and play him in defence with just occasional stints up forward. He's played well back there often. Eventually he'll play CHF. We'll play Waite, Kreuzer, Setanta (and Cloke when he plays) up forward in rotations depending the game, the state of it as well as to change things up. And, as I said, Henderson occasionally.

We may play alot more too through CHF now as we did in our great years.

A little bit of a hindsight call this one.

Adam Hartlett

You barely commented on Hartlett aside from the Howat incident and your first negative post about him was late June 2009.

Luke Livingston

With Livingston, your first post about him was in 2003 and it was positive. You have a string of negative posts about him in 2004 and had decided he was gone.

He started off well in 2005 but got injured prompting you to say:

No doubt missing Thornton and Livingston has disturbed the balance of the team.

Any team that is missing its centre half back and best defender, and its full back is going to struggle to cover the loss, regardless of whether its Port or Brisbane or Essendon and Collingwood.

Carlton has the youngest list in the AFL, and not a lot of depth, but when these guys get back, Carlton will improve, and will be much better in the middle and towards the end of the season.

no doubt losing Thornton, and then Livingston has affected the team structure and balance.
The Blues don't have a lot of depth. But with their best team on the field they are top 8.

In 2006, you turned on him again and stayed that way until he was delisted.

Trent Sporn

There are some good young players coming through at carlton.

DeLuca (great performance, out marking Goodes one on one on multiple occassions), Norman (pretty good again), Sporn, Waite, Thornton (top game despite Halls efforts), Teague, Walker (brilliant in patches today, can see he could be a star, pace, skill), Brad Fisher (great overhead mark, needs to bulk up), Prendergast.
Give them 50 or so games under their belt and they'll be top players.
Nick Stevens, Heath Scotland, Houlihan, Fevola, Whitnall etc. are still young also.

Callan Beasy

You seemed to have no problem with him in the side here:

both Beasy and Fisher can take an overhead contested mark. I think the best thing to do with Callam Beasy is play him in a forward pocket, not in the ruck, similar to Fisher.
Carlton needs a good rover/goal sneak to play along side these high markers like Fevola, DeLuca, Fisher, Whitnall, Kouta etc.

You really have to toe a consistent line before you berate others on who they talk up, and you probably have to call it early if you think they are not going to make it. That way there is a chance to get it wrong as well and put your own credibility on the line.

You are quite the detective ODN!! ;)

I must say though with a username like A Bad Don in one word and an unlisted team choice it rang a bell with me and i take most of his posts with a grain of salt, like many others may do.

Nah, I googled it. Abaddon is a World of Warcraft character apparently. I know someone who immersed themselves in this game so completely that it broke up his relationship. Must be addictive.

Can you believe anyone would spend that amount of time on a computer, ODN? Unbelievable.

It's tragic. I feel for those and their loved ones .... who probably left years ago, but they haven't yet noticed.
