cricket,
hi all, well isn't hendo just a revelation, hes performed better if not as well as everybody had expected and the forward line appears to be on the way up. so why would you change a winning formular? well it just got me thinking about hendo,to me he is a natural wingman, tall, quick, covers a lot of ground and his penetration of his kicks driving it into the forward line would be great as well. we haven't had a goal kicking wingman for a long while and while hendo would fit that bill perfectly it would also make room for gunston who will one day come into the team at someones expence.

thank you

Hendo is playing a high HF role and is using his pace, work rate and two way running to work between HF and HB and to push deep into the forward line when there is space

good suggestion however if its not broken lets leave it alone......

for the reasons that you have stated I would actually like Otten and Gunston to controll the wings in 2011 and D-Mac play a running HB role similar to a R Shaw

Big call there on Gunston.

Hendo is a GUN love watching him play, very composed, loved his goal where he out gunned two Eagles players (who both ended up falling on top of each other) and threading the big sticks:thumbsu:

I really like the role Hendo is playing now.

We don't really have a CHF type as a leading/marking option through the middle of the ground. Hendo fits the bill. Not sure what his aerobic capacity is like but he's certainly quick. Would love to see him be able to work right up and down the ground like Riewoldt does for the Saints.

It's working at the moment so let the kid build confidence in the position he has been given before setting him a new role and challenge.

Damn that forward line looks good, I can see us kicking 20 + goals a game with regularity in the not too distant future. :)

That happened RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME!

Jumped out of my seast and yelled

HEEEEEEEEEEENNNNNNDDDDDOOOOOOOO

That moment was absolute class tw13 :thumbsu:

I'm in the "I like Hendo where he's currently playing" camp, but I also feel he's the kind of player who, with his size and pace and reading of the play etc could play anywhere. However, I like him up forward where his flashes of brilliance lead to goals, and his flashes on inexperience don't hurt us too much.

Hendo i feel is the quick replacement for Burton. Same aerobic capacity without the brain fades (so far). I think he is going to be something special. Not afraid to try the impossible. Certainly is a gun down at centrals (along with gunston). I think wing or HF flank is best fit for him.

Wing or HFF? Very much the same position these days, with HFF'ers playing mainly as attacking wingers, whereas wingers tend to push into defence and almost act as extra running half-backmen, but they really cover similar ground. I'm very happy for Hendo to continue on as a HFF'er, I think Knights showed last year how effective a quality, hard running, versatile HFF'er could be and I think Hendo has the potential to be just as devastating. I'd keep him there, he's a nightmare to match up on, even more so than Burton was in that he's got genuine height and genuine pace, not just an elite aerobic and jumping/marking ability.

Throw Hendo on one HFF and Knights on the other and IMO we have a half forward line to die for.

I just looked this guy up on the AFC website.

Really? This kid is a basketballer with a few games of football under his belt when he was drafted? Could've fooled me.

This has got to be one of the best left-field recruiting pickups ever. I might be jumping the gun a bit, but, my god. Nice work. Jesse White's kicked some goals for us, but this kid looks like a footballer.

ICould anyone see him playing in the middlein a year or two? I know hes not a pure inside midfielder or antyhing but a good size and has the ability to run through there all day?

Playing good footy where he is now!

I think his most damaging position is where he's playing now. As James37 said he's a nightmare match up because for his height he has elite speed, agility and leap. You can't play someone who's as tall as him on him because they will get burnt off all day and if you play someone as quick as him he'll out body and mark them. If he keeps up this level of improvement he will be a star and it won't take too long for people to notice because he does 1 or 2 really eye catching things each game.

The goal he kicked from 40 out on the boundary against the Eagles was special. He looked dead in the contest but his acceleration got him into the position to take the ball. The Eagles players didn't defend it that well but they would've thought they had it wrapped up.

Thought he may have been a chance for a RS Nom this week but not to be.
Brisbane have received their 3rd nom this year. Who does this sound like?
Hendo your time will come.

As far as I know Ricky is unfortunately around month too old to receive a nomination. Doesn't matter though, we all know he'll turn out better than 80% of the players nominated so far :P

That confirmed?

It'd definitely explain a few things; would've thought he was a very strong chance at this weeks RS.

Doesn't matter though, as you say, he'll be a gun - and J_Moore is right, could be a huge left-field recruiting coup, and he's clearly already standing out.

I'm pretty sure the rules state that a player has to turn 21 after the 1st of January 2010 to be eligible while Henderson turned 21 in December I think.

It's a shame but it's not a huge deal.

You are right on both counts - Hendo will be better than any of the RS nominated players this year AND he is too old for a nomination - he turned 21 on the 11th September last year, missing out on the RS window by 3 months and 19 days.

Redden from the Lions got it this week, and IF Hendo had been eligible it would have been a tight call - Hendo's numbers this week a little better than Redden's, but Redden's a little better over the season according to footywire stats.

Played juniors up until he was 14 I think, then gave it up to pursue basketball. Certainly a great pick though, we were tipped off to him by someone who saw him at a Basketball camp or something, we checked him out, got him to play a couple of country games(during which he dominated), before picking him up in the rookie draft. Always knew he was pretty athletic, but have been amazed by his skills and how fluent his kicking is, not something you really expect from a basketball convert.

Is Redden the little ranga?

If so, he's been very good.

No thats Banfield. Redden is an SA boy, was linked to us late in the draft I believe but Brisbane pulled the trigger much earlier in the 2nd round, with good cause too, he's been playing some pretty good footy.
