hey some people would have responded on the big footy home page but the survey is interresting.
first of all it says out of 8000 ppl surveyed essendon have the highest supporters..with hawthorn second
im not one for surverys because they are very misleading..i think ther is no doubt collingwood and essendon are the two biggest clubs..
there is debate in that chat room as too who has the most supporters nationally..
i for one think collingwood have the most in victoria with essendon very close..
but nationally maybe the bombers have more just..
just wondering on what everyone genuinely thinks as too which club has more supporters..
who is the best supported club at your work/school?

This survey is hardly an accurate source at all. The 8000 that were surveyed volunteered to do so on the internet or by mailing in a survey from in the Herald Sun. The sampling is not credible nor accurate. You can't determine how many supporters a team has on that, it only says that more Essendon supporters decided to take the survey.

Ling got equal second sexiest player as a joke, there was a mini-campaign on bigfooty getting people to vote for him.

Essendon have the most supporters, I mean, they have been audited Nationally by Price Waterhouse and they can confirm this.
The supporter group was made of current members, the homeless,
unborn children & convicts dating back to 1788

The audit also revealed that Carlton have blown their salary cap again for
backended contracts to the Bluebirds, who have disguising themselves at footballers, namely Jason Saddington & Ryan Houlihan.

Supporters aren't people who sit at home and fill in a survey...it is people who sign up, attend and cheer on their side.

Collingwood have the most passionate supporter base in the league. We have just made a record home attendance record. We continue to build on membership figures, etc.

I think Essendon have more followers, we have more supporters, in Victorian clubs.

A national survey was done by some random (not PWC), and it found Sydney had the most...simply because of the size of the state and the lack of competition in that state. I think the surveyer lived in Sydney...so his national survey, which not one person on BigFooty even heard of i'm guessing...was so flawed. This was in The Australian for memory.

3 things are important: Membership figures, attendance figures and tv ratings and we win all 3.

Obviously if you ask someone in NSW who they follow, there's a very good chance they'll say Sydney. Doesn't mean they have ever been to a game or bother to watch Sydney on television, let alone buy a membership.

I'd say the same for Melbourne Storm, or Victory. In theory I follow them, in that I want them to win, but I've never been to a game for either. I go to Collingwood games every week they're in Melbourne.
