Skippy best on ground - amazing.

It's a good thing I was the only one on here that suggested he should remain in our starting 22 when the rest of you novices were calling for his head - ahhh yeah right! :D

I seem to be eating a fair bit of humble pie so far this year and i'm loving the taste. Anyone else want a slice?

Lets see my pre-season predictions -

Right About Mattner
Right About Skippy
Wrong About Begley
Wrong About Shirley
Jury still out on Perrie

Of course it's only Round 5 ;)

Save me a piece for about round 10. With any luck i will still need a large helping.

Me too!

If I had had my way he would not have played.

Well done to the young man. 1 game doesn't make a career & I still have my doubts, BUT big gold star & a stamp on each hand for Skippy this week.

Mouth is that full i can't really respond at the moment. gobble, gobble :D

Good on Skippy & I'm always willing to be proved wrong.

Now he just has to do it on a regular basis.

It's amazing what confidence can be achieved from one good game of football. Loved the checkside goal he kicked too, even if the out of bounds decision looked iffy.

I don't even think he believed that when it came of the boot, absolute cracker of a goal though!

Yep confidence in the game of footy is a must, especially our boys because we rely alot more on confidence through our midfield. Anyway well done Skippy! Keep it going!

It was me, it was me! I exchanged a few words with him at the Members' Day and told him to have a good year. Clearly he listened.

I've always liked Skippy, albeit like others I wasn't sure if he had what it takes to really consolidate himself as an AFL player. He's not out of the woods yet, but it's really pleasing to see him playing the way he is. Ditto Mattner.

My next project, along the same lines, is Bock :)

Ahh Such influence! Can you have a word in Young Schubacks ear for me as well?? ;)

Skippy is one of those player who I am trying really hard to like – He doesn’t seem to do anything wrong I just think he is too small to be playing in the AFL, Saying that he was wrestling with the swans ruckman and forced the ball out of bounds so he can hold his own

I’ll come around possibly after a few more games possibly, I can’t seem him being dropped before VB for next week any how

Great improved performance but at times still a little slow deciding where he should kick. However positives outweigh the negatives so far but still early to make a judgement.

yeah sure why not ... I just said it as a reference to what Dennis Commeti called it on channel 9

Commentators always get confused with that one :) Dennis corrected himself after the goal was kicked, something like "checkside, why not! And South Australia celebrates!".

I like Dennis.

OT for a Skippy thread, but the other thing I liked in the commentary was how Commetti and Brereton "adopted" Ian Perrie during the game, to the point where when Perrie went for a mark Brereton called "PEZZA!". :p

I liked it. It was pretty clear Dermett and Dennis were going for Adelaide. They are in love with Bassett and Perrie (must be the honest battler in them), and everytime we got a soft free they tried to justify it by saying "it was a brave call, but a correct one". Dermett has always liked us for some reason - maybe the Ayres connection and he also was in love with McLeod at one stage so I think it stems from that.

it probably has more to do with that they know a large % of ppl watching will be adelaide supporters. Not sure it would rate at all in sydney

Anyone know what the story is with Schuie. Both him and kruger really have to play some senior footy this year.

It went to Melbourne where there would be a large number of old Souths supporters. It was also live in Sydney so it would have attracted some sort of audience - there are 4m of them over there.

Dermie has had a trememdous soft sport for perrie since the ayres years. From what i understand ayres brought dermie in before one of the finals to talk to the players and I think he has kept in touch with a few from that time

always thought dennis was a very astute observer of football and always nice about adelaide :D

Schuie has had a bad injury. Agreed, he does need to push into the senior squad, as I don't think he will be afforded the latitude that Matt Smith or even Skipworth and Pierre were given. I am a big Rap for him. Haven't seen enough of Kruger, but he would need to have played at least 10 SANFL senior games on the trot to keep his spot, I would think.

I think Schuie has spome real potential but times running out. Kruger I doubt he will string together more than 5 games with the Bays - huge disappointment.

Skippy was showing signs last year that he may just make it although i still had my doubts due to his lack of pace & kicking length but he does get where the ball is and generally does not just cough it up when caught so perhaps confidence in using what he's got will get him over the line. At this stage i feel he's moved ahead of Bode & Schuback.

This year is going to be very interesting to watch as the "2nd tier delisting candidates" compete with each other to stay out of the danger zone.
Inopportune injuries,luck,form,attitude,team/player list balance, opportunity etc are all going to play a part in deciding the end of year order.

Schuback & Krueger have both been listed on the injury list with back injuries and "indefinite" :(
