Re: Essendon coach James Hird backs Jay Neagle's return to the club

Sounds to me like they're trying to find him a home so that they don't feel too bad about booting him.

Re: Essendon coach James Hird backs Jay Neagle's return to the club

been a few that have come good after finding themselves in neagles position, be great for him to make it, but does fly in the face of the training reports on here?

anyway sir james has said he's going ok so must be true

Re: Essendon coach James Hird backs Jay Neagle's return to the club

Wasn't overly impressed with Jay on Monday (as stated in training report), but Hird must see differently.

Hope he does get in good shape and dedicates himself, he's a natural footballer and is a nice kick for goal.

Certainty to be grabbed by another club if they read the article.

Not if we take him in the pre-season draft..if he is in hirds plans they will want to play him round 1 and not have to wait for someone to go on the long term injury list in order to elevate him of the rookie list.

You wouldn't be incorrect in your assesment either though. He clearly was way behind the 8ball so the performances you saw were probably subpar to the rest of the side. That said, I am sure he was set performance goals by Hird, and he may be showing the neccesarry improvement. If you didn't rate him the other day, makes you wonder how bad he was 3 weeks ago when he returned, lol.

Could it not just be that despite still strugling for fitness, hird is impressed that jay's made a concerted effort to improve his attitude and fitness, and is already significantly fitter than he was a few weeks ago?

Yeah I'd actually be concerned for the rest of the team if after giving everyone a head start he was back in the pack fitness wise.

Shit yeah, I would have quickly delisted him and never spoken to him again. :D Hird has been persistent though, which may or may not pay off. It's all up to Jay...

Yeah obviously Hird stated he had made some progress since a few weeks ago, but I still see him as someone who has fallen a little too far behind.

Hope he can kick on from here though. :thumbsu:

I reckon so.

Meanwhile, Hird said the Bombers would take the best available talent at next week's rookie and pre-season drafts as long as they met the club's youthful direction.

Is this tongue in cheek?

Yes.;)

Not beyonds the realms of possibility that Neagle is picked up as a rookie.

Re: Essendon coach James Hird backs Jay Neagle's return to the club

Neagle has not nominated for the Pre-Season Draft, so he will be rookied almost certainly according to this article.

Also note that former Sydney player Ryan Brabazon is training with us.
Neagle did not need to nominate... Everyone who nominates for the National Draft is automatically put through to the PSD and RD, Neagle included.
This list is only of those who did not nominate for the ND.

Re: Essendon coach James Hird backs Jay Neagle's return to the club

If Hird wanted him why would he go out and say it publicly? he is just trying to get another team to pick him up.
