I really enjoyed it. It had a lot for the purists and it had plenty for the non-afficianado. It is not a classic interpretation of the books but it did have excellent production values. I thought that the Vogons were brilliantly done, but making the "love" angle between Arthur and Trillion so central, was unecessary imo.

So long and thanks for all the fish. :)

I always loved the tv series.

Now i can't wait to go see the film.

It's always a relief to be able to go see something other than some Hollywood trash at the pictures.

All i need next is for the Red Dwarf movie to be finally made.

The TV series was one of my favourite shows of all time. I'm not sure about the movie. I think I would just keep comparing it to the TV show. "Why is Ford Prefect black?" "Why does Zaphod Beeblebrox only have one head?" "Why did they make Marvin so small and cute?"

Anybody here who has seen the TV series AND the movie? What did you think?

I've seen both, Zaphod had 2 heads in the movie. If you compare things to each other then one will look bad. I just judged it on its merets and I liked it.

I am a BIG fan of the books, and liked the TV series. I thought the movie was great, but I agree with a couple of comments about Marvin - he's the wrong shape. It's not the fact that they didn't stick to the book's description of him - that doesn't bother me. What bothers me is that the shape of Marvin's legs is crucial to a major plot line which should come up in one or two sequels' time. I guess they can always blow him up and give him a new body in the next movie...

Well I went to see it on Sunday and since I'm a huge fan of the original radio series, the TV series and the books I was preparing for the worst but I have to say I really enjoyed it.
I agree re Marvin though. Did anyone else notice that they had the original Marvin when they had the scene where they're waiting in the que to rescue Trillian? Also the original Arthur Dent was in it briefly too.
I got a little bit of a shock when I saw that Ford was black but I guess it never states in any of the previous versions whether he is black or white. I tend to imagine what the characters look like by the actors in the TV series.
I do have one slight complaint but it's only minor. It's just the fact that the last line was "the restaurants at the other end of the universe" and I don't think that Douglas Adams would have been entirely happy with that because he would have argued that the universe basically goes around in a circle so there is no end.
I'd give it 4 out of 5

I thought I saw the original Marvin, but it was so fast I couldn't be sure it wasn't just a similar looking robot. Didn't spot Arthur Dent though.

Now I have to go see it again... :D

I too saw it last night and thought it was a decent movie, and like someone else said more so in reflection. I never read the books or knew anything about it so it was all fresh to me. I saw it with my parents who both watched the series and read the books and they think the series was better and had a better Marvin.

I still think Marvin was good and was the best character in the movie. Was interesting and funny and i give it a 7/10. Not quite the 4.5 stars the Herald Sun gave it though.

I love the books - the first part (Hitchhikers) is my favourite ever book. I've never seen the series though, so I have my own vision of how they should look in my head which I think is even worse when seeing how someone else has interpreted them because I'm not sure I want my thoughts tainted!

Agree with Valkyrie - Marvin's leg is crucial to any sequels and although I hadn't thought about it in the very short ad I've seen, I'll be dwelling on it now!
