Re: maybe luke "clanger king" hodge should have stayed home with his wife

Thats right.. why dont we just axe Luke Hodge because of a few errors.

Bunch of idiots.

LOL @ Hodge trying to kick with his right foot.

Monumental errors at with 3 and 6 minutes remaining that lost his team the game.

Absolute hack.

What a great idea!! :thumbsu::D:p

The difference between a champion and a pretender! Luke Hodge??? (**MB Thread**)

There it is people in one simple quarter of footy we see the difference between a true champion and just a good footballer. Luke Hodge will never be seen as a true champion because champions stand up when the chips are down.

Never ever saw Robert Harvey, Nathan Buckley, James Hird or Michael Voss put in an effort like that when it came to crunch time.

Re: The difference between a champion and a pretender! Luke Hodge???

Hodge is a champion, I don't know what was wrong with him tonight, worst game I have ever seen him play, I think his mind was elsewhere!

Re: The difference between a champion and a pretender! Luke Hodge???

He is a great player but jeez that was a pathetic effort when his side needed him the most.

Will hurt him alot tonight and rightly so.

Re: The difference between a champion and a pretender! Luke Hodge???

Laughable.

Did you watch his final against Adelaide when he was on one leg?

Did you consider the circumstance that his wife was due to give birth at any moment?

Oh wait, let's just judge him on one game.

eg Joel Selwood

You absolute T______er how long have you been waiting to write this post. Essendon would have someone like Hodge in a heartbeat. Then again probably not, why would you want to raise the bar at Essendon from a team of nobody's.

Re: The difference between a champion and a pretender! Luke Hodge???

Actually I think we all saw Bucks put in plenty of non-matchwinning performances.

Hodge stuffed it tonight, no doubt, but he will be a champion. Just turned 24. Has done more than Buckley at the same age.

Much better bloke too.

Re: The difference between a champion and a pretender! Luke Hodge???

Terrible, terrible thread

Anyone remember GAblett squibbing it in a final (against Brisbane or Essendon IIRC?)

There's no doubt unfortunately that the Hawks will win a flag in coming years. At the moment however they are still too young and inexperienced. Losses like tonight's will make them hungrier and tougher. I remember Sydney being overwhelmed in a final qtr against Brisbane in the prelim in 03 or so, Geelong against Sydney in 05, Port choking numerous times, Essendon in 99, Carlton in 94.

Re: The difference between a champion and a pretender! Luke Hodge???

Good, ordinary player at best.

What a silly comment !

Even if he is not a Robert Harvey, Nathan Buckley, James Hird or Michael Voss, he is still one of the best running around at the moment.

Re: The difference between a champion and a pretender! Luke Hodge???

Hodge is a Gun. However, if you want to reach the status of Champ you have to prove your worth during Finals Football. That is why i still Rate Judd, and even Cousins & Kerr over Ablett. Judd will always have a huge gap between himself & Hodge. The only way Hodge can narrow it is to not only perform during finals but go to another level. Hodge has got it in him.

On another note. Bartel. Is it only me or does he get 85% of his possessions behind center. Furthermore, a majority of his possessions are overrated with easy handballs and kicks having no influence on the game whatsoever. Nevertheless, there were 3-4 passages of play where he was awesome in getting the contested ball out to players, but I still query his huge stats which are almost Chad Fletcher-esc in his AA year in 04. Racks it up but doesnt influence a game. I would have rated Selwoods 30+ touches more influential in Geelongs win that Bartel's. Thoughts?

Re: The difference between a champion and a pretender! Luke Hodge???

He's one of my favourites in the league, but he had a shocker in the semi-final last year as well, he really needs to step up in big games.

Having said that, I haven't lost any respect for him, he may have had other things on his mind.

Yes I did see that final mate, I was there and yes he was good! But to be a champion you can't just do it once, you need to do it over and over. I have never ever seen a champion stuff a game that badly...never!

Re: The difference between a champion and a pretender! Luke Hodge???

failed to live up to reputation in the biggest game of the year. basically he was exposed under pressure.

his last quarter performance actually ruined the spectacle, and his woeful display arguably cost the hawks the game.

now will have to live the 'suspect in big games' tag.
