Fantastic debut tonight. 23 touches and ran all night. Loved how he dared to go into every pack and his pressure was superb. Was right next to the Carlton bench and every time he came off, he looked totally spent. In a night full of many more negatives than positives, Den can certainly say he didn't let the team down.
Well done son :thumbsu:

Agree great effort bit all the other duds in the team dragged him down

It was just good to finally see a Carlton player running for the ball, and actually out-running his opponent. About time we had some speed around the ground.

The highlight of the night was his debut. He backed himself and boy has he got quick legs! Hope he get's the Rising Star this week :thumbsu:

i found his game rather great to be honest, that run through the guts was superb!! Will get Rising Star Nomitation this week for sure!!

Too old isn't he? Great performance. Good to see someone in the navy blue run and back himself. Seriously need some more of this.

The winner must be under the age of 21 at January 1 of that year, must not have played more than 10 games to the start of that season and must not have been suspended by the AFL or State League tribunals during the season (as with the Brownlow Medal, players found guilty of certain offences and fined or reprimanded by the Tribunal remain eligible to win the award).

Turned 21 on the 22nd of December - so close:thumbsd:

Ahh, Dennis Armfield, what a breath of fresh air.

I hope a few of these other top end draft picks have a real good look at how this young guy approaches a game of footy. And then, have a look at their own approach to a game of footy. Big difference.

Armfield has a set of balls like two small hairy moons. Most impressive, which is more than I can say for many of the other passengers we are carrying.

Armfield might be a good lockdown player or wingman if he develops because he didn't look out of place against the Cats tonight.

23 possessions in his debut against the Cats.

He's as quick as buggery when he put the foot down to get out of trouble and ran on to collect his own disposal at top speed without breaking stride.

Great to see a rookie back themself in to win the ball and take them on.

Armfield is a better kick than I expected for someone taken at pick 46.

Anyone who thought he would be out of his depth out there tonight has got no idea. Is an excellent addition to the side, bringing 4 much needed attributes: pace, toughness, and tackling. Not many others tonight offered 1 of those attributes, let alone all 3. Well done Army.

Now people can start to see why Kernahan, Ratts, Braddles et al thought they found something very special in Armfield when we first recruited him.

And Murphy is a worse kick than I expected for someone taken at pick 1

Has been a good kick this season, but the game was a much scrappier affair and we were constantly under pressure. As good as Murph has been, he's relying too much on the uncontested ball and doesn't do enough inside. I'm sure this will improve with time, but it is one aspect of his game he needs to improve. Also, his disposal does seem to drop off when he is under pressure (hence the large improvement in kicking between last year and this, when he's been getting a free reign and playing as a link man).

Absolutely, he was superb. Looks like a superstar in the making.

The reason he hasn't gone for the contested ball in the last month is because we've given the responsibility to Bentick. Great trier, superb effort, but no good for our team at the end of the day. Sorry Bent's go and star for the Bullants and stop blocking the real talent like Murph and Gibbs from having a run in the midfield.

Come on Match committee let the talent run wild and take a risk. We don't care if it doesn't come off this year.

Don't be thinking I dislike the man, I don't, in fact, I even have a cat named Murphy (and another Fev, and another Juddy) but, for someone as highly rated as he was/is I expect more class, more poise, more precision. Less excuses.

Get over your Bentick vendetta, Murphy has been playing the same role irrespective of Bentick's spot in the side or not.
