we were the Hawks bogey side, and it showed yesterday. However we are up against our bogey side in the first final. So what do we do differently to beat that. Is it just a matter of trying to repeat our game plan against the hawks, or is there are particular strategy needed against the collywobbles for us, as they seem to have had us pretty sorted for the past two seasons.

The Pies have been super quick when they have played us, we must, MUST, take them on the same with quick ball movement forward. Their defence has been very underrated this year. We can't afford to drop into our shells if we get a goal or two down. I'm convinced if we try to shut this game down it'll end up being very tight, I'd back our defence far more so than a couple of weeks ago but we've got to run it far more than we have aginst them in recent games.

Simple play like we did against the hawks yesterday and leave them reeling. Would love to see Barlow with a run on Dale Thomas (2 quick young blokes awesome) but i dont think he will play which is a shame and the other i see being dropped is dempster for kennelly another shame but what do you do when you have a strong 24 or 26 players and can only play your best 22.

Leo, LRT and possibly Barlow (I'm hoping) will make a big difference to us this time around. We usually do alright on their talls, but our undermanned defence just couldn't sustain the pressure it took last time around. Barlow did play last time. But had limited gametime, and was really only there to hold the fort. This time we might do some stretching of their backline ourselves for once. :thumbsu:

Note to our midfield group: that stuff you did against the Hawks, you know, "contested footy", it wins Premierships. So keep it up. :D

We're going to have alot more options down back. Last time we played them Brennan had to play on Rusling even though it wasn't a good match up, however i think Richards will be able to play on him this time seeing Bolton or LRT can go to Cloke and that'll work alot better. Then anyone of Leo, LRT or Bolton can go on Rocca aswell.

I'm so excited!

Roosy described Ed as a young Goodes. Surely you wouldnt drop him after last weekend, he played really really well. A tad more awareness and he will be a headache for opposition teams in the finals. very much in the mould of Dale Thomas. I'd go so far as to say the guy needs to play. he inject runs and pace. Goodsey should take the boy under his wing and guide him through.

i think the team that faced the wobblies a few weeks ago has been reinvented enough to reverse the result this time, esp being finals. As long as we dont go too far back into our overly defensive mode by chipping it around everywhere and going back more than we go forward, and have a decent amount of ball being pumped through the corridor like we did against the Hawks, we will win this.

also, did malceski start further forward on Sunday. That seemed like a great move, at least for parts of the game, similar to what weagles do with Hunter.

Barlow playing against us last time, didnt do much at all.

Leo Barry also played against us earlier in the year and was pretty ordinary.

Is LRT any good ? Always seems to be a bit up and down to me.

Barlow and the rest of the team didnt do much against you last time. LRT IMO is a gamble but he sure added some much needed structure down back for us, making it possible to free up players like Goodes to not need to drop back as often, and bring others like Barlow into the game. This can change everything for us. Did you see that Goodes run from the centre when he got the ball, ran around the pack, straightened up, had a bounce, and slammed it. freakish.

LRT's been out of the side so long people forget how important he was in our Premiership campaigns the last two years. He looks a little goofy, but his height and strength really puts a big stop sign back there for a lot of forward lines in the comp.

As to how we'll line up. Well Collingwood were gifted plenty of opportunities with Brenann forced to play a key role in the backline last time. He tried hard but the task was beyond him. That won't be happening this week for a start.

Its certainly going to be a fascinating game..

I would have rathered play Adelaide to be honest - although we have had the wood over you guys the past couple of years i think that getting LEO and LRT back will really make a difference in the backline. LEO and Kennelly will give you that run from Half back that you didn't get from anyone other than Goodes two weeks ago..

we will really need to lift to win this game and someone needs to stop Goodes - he is in blistering form

cheers, its certainly going to be a different swans line up to what faced you last time. Goodes is playing superbly, we have the second best defense in the comp, which is just getting back to full strength, and if we can repeat last Sunday from a sheer effort point of view, it will be a great game to watch. god im starting to believe again.

We'll hopefully have Fraser back from two weeks off.

Rusling will hopefully also be back in, Didak also a possibility.

I heard Luke Ablett got injured, imagine from what I heard he will miss for you guys.

we always seem to play teams this year just when they get their good players back. Cousins against westcoast, buckley against you guys, and now didak and rusling and fraser. Ablett is a blow IMO but can be covered for with the return of Buchannan and Kennelly, and with Leo and LRT in. Gentlemen, start your engines.:thumbsu:

You think he'll play ?

Hasnt been seen for weeks, not sure where he is at.

You wonder if they will take a risk on him if hes not 100 % prepared, could work but also could backfire in a big way.

Yes you guys do have a few players back, but really, hall, keneally, barry have all got injury clouds.not a good idea to be playing players who are underdone in a cut throat final
We have to make room for fraser, didak,Rusling to come in so our side will be strengthened as well.Rusling,rocca,cloke,fraser,didak,davis,medhurst.....too much fire power up forward......Sorrry but the pies will win.

...Hall, Davis, O'Keefe, O'Loughlin, Schneider, Everitt...

We have just as varied and potent a forward line as you.

It wasn't your forward line that's beaten us the last two games. It's been your midfield. They gave your forwards so much decent service that it was impossible for them not to kick a winning score.

If the Swans don't do something about what happens in the middle of the ground, our strengthened defence won't mean anything.

Davis is really the only one of those 4 who's damaging infront of goals on a regular basis, so don't get too carried away with it mate.:)

our defence will go okay, nice to have some size back with LRT, and i thought he looked good yesterday for someone out of the senior side so long
and the key to their defence playing so well against is down to two things....1)our forwards, until yesterday, have been pretty ordinary, and 2) our midfield have allowed the pies to dictate terms in the two clashes this season

what's frustrating is that the pies midfield is not particularly quicker than ours, but they've played betetr and used the ball better...
also, it helps a side when they get a 3-4 goal jump, and that's what the pies did to us sat week ago
it may have been foolish, but i genuinely believed we'd beat c'wood going into both games this season, and we've been awful
but it's the same team, and i maintain that (however foolish) confidence
we've let blokes like l davis, rocca and medhurst, all erratic and unreliable players, look good, and we've made mids like o'bree and burns look like judd and kerr...
but after yesterday, it's our turn now....we CAN win this weekend

As long as umpire Scot Mclaren, aint there, were already 3/4 goals up.:p
Otherwise we improve our game in the middle, win the stopages & tackle like men possesed, and its all tears for Eddies little pets.
We can not lose to Coillingwood 3 times in one year..

Is Tadhg Kennelly going to play? I heard his knee wasnt 100% yet.....

apparently ran well in a test today but needs to do the same at least once or twice more during the week....things certainly lookng up but he's no certainty
luke ablett, according to swans doctor, is extremely unlikely to play again this season

Very important we control the stoppages. Collingwood were to quick for us last time and they won the ball from the centre with Richards playing really well to nullify our rucks. Jolly and Spida have to lift again for this one and ensure the midfield game is played closer man on man rather than faster.

Also the drive we got the ball into the forward line against the Hawks and Micy and Davis taking a few grabs will help.

Gehrig, Rweiwoldt, Franklin, Roughhead... all accounted for by the swans in recent games.
A lot easier to do that at the SCG than the MCG.

It will be a completely different game to the Syd/Hawks game.
