pick 26 - Jack Viney
pick 46 (available)
pick 66 (available)
pick 84 (available)

Would happily use pick 66 on Farren Ray.

Hoping we keep 4 and 20 to use in the draft, barring a great offer/offers for them.

I thought the blood would run from AAMI Park for days after The Great Delistment Of 2012? We'll need more than 2 active picks to make up the slack.

I would be too in isolation but it was all part of the package deal.

If it were any other club - fine an' dandy. But GWS? Man, **** those guys with a huge sharp metal strap-on appendage. Curse their draft picks!

There is still 2 weeks to go and we have some players who may switch clubs for picks also. We sound as though we are well in the running for Pedersen and Ray, while Dawes is someone we are keen on but the Doggies and Blues might be keener and offer more. Guys like Martin, Gysberts, Morton, Petterd etc could all be traded out to make up a few picks as well. I dare say we will still wheel and deal over the next few weeks.

Still livid we traded pick 13 away.

We traded pick 3 and moved down 7 spots to 20 for Hogan. Pick 3 alone wouldn't have done the deal (GWS could've made us burn 3 pick alone for Viney), and none of our other picks have any value to GWS, so all in all it's not bad.

I'm happy with Hogan, but I just have this feeling that now that we got Viney in the 2nd round, we are happy to give a little leeway in our trading. I just hope we don't have the 'we got Viney with 26 so giving up said pick isn't that bad' attitude. Again, if Hogan and Barry are worth what we gave fair enough, just hope we didn't give overs because we got Viney in the 2nd round. I think Pederson is a lock, and i'm also confident we will get Farren Ray. I reckon a deal will be done involving 44 or 66, or one of Cook, Morton, Bennell, Martin ect. Also interested to see what will happen with David Rodan and feel there may be 1 or 2 other role players that we will pick up. Still think there will be another 3 players arriving from other clubs, plus the additional 4 that we will pick up in the draft.

If Riv goes as well (although I hope he doesn't) that should equate to a net loss meaning we will get a pick. I don't imagine it will be a very good one.

I'm not sure of the formula for compensation, however you would expect that both Rivers and Moloney will be on larger contracts than Byrnes and that they have both had better B&F results over the last few years. I'd think we'd be looking at an end of first round/ 2nd round pick.

There's no "official" formula for compensation as far as I'm aware, just something AFL house will cook up. From what i've head it will be based on contract size and length amongst other things. Byrnes and Moloney have both been offered 2 year contracts I think. Given the lack of interest in Beamer and his poor 2012 the size of that contract may not be as big as his 2011 form would demand. This all makes me think that these moves will cancel each other out.
Given Goddard who got a large, 4 year deal is expected to net a mid first round compo pick I expect the most will get for Riv is 2nd round

Pick 66 will not get Ray, they would rather keep hm, apologies if it was a joke.

I would like to see 4 & 20 used on speedy midfielders who can use the ball well and add a bit of variety. We already have a few hard nuts who will win the ball but not too many classy run and carry midfielders. If 20 is used on Dawes I will probably cry

Apparently there is a formula, however it's remaining 'confidential'. The afl have released the compensation bands however.

Other things will include games played in recent years and recent bnf results, because occasionally a player will go to a club and be on less money - eg Kurt Tippett going to Sydney, power forward at the peak of his career going to play on less money.

Both Beamer and Rivers have played a lot more and received much better bnf results than Byrnes in recent years, both of them will also be on more money (even if Beamer halves his current wage he'd be on more than Byrnes).

Imo it will be tier 2/ tier 3 ie end of first/ mid 2nd round.

Goddard is undoubtedly tier 1. Thing is, because St Kilda finished ninth, the difference between tier 1 (first round) and tier 2 (mid-first round) is one pick...

Rivers and Moloney minus Byrnes should be a second-round pick, I'd think. Especially given that there is an official formula, taking age, contract length and size and form into consideration. IIRC the AFL can overrule it, though, if it seems wrong.
