How long do Kochie and Thomas wait?

We didn't burn a shot at the flag because we were never in it.

That in itself is the problem though isn't it? With our list profile and all the resources at our disposal, we really are punching below our weight. 2014 was supposed to be something to build on but we've been furiously cycling forwards in first gear ever since. The Dogs won a flag and GWS, Richmond and the ****ing Crows have ovetaken us at an alarming rate.

Yeah, I don't disagree that we could be better than we are. But there's a difference between potential and action. We haven't looked like a top line team in this competition since 2014. And before that you have to go back to 2007. So only once in the past decade have we been anything better than the good average team we are right now. We aren't punching below our weight because the evidence is overwhelming. We are what we are.

What I don't understand is why everyone here is being so negative! o_O Remember that we didn't even play finals last year!:rolleyes: Stop being bad supporters or go and support some other team!!!:mad:

It is now time for us all to back our fellow South Australians! :footy::thumbsu: We stand together with the Camry Crows this September! ;):) Do us proud and bring home the flag! :rainbow:

How long have you got? Clearly Hinkley is the elephant in the room but it's a whole of club issue. The difference between us and the Sydney Swans is not just one man. We need to lift our standards across the board.

Agreed.

After they worked out they had a premiership squad and coach, who needed more help and have responsibilities taken away from him and given to a new position of Footy Ops Manager, get in a new fitness regime etc.

Anyone think we haven't given Hinkley enough resources? Did our fitness program fail so much we had to sack the head guy like Geelong sacked Loris Bertolacci early on at the start of the 2006 season? Anyone think Hinkley is a premiership coach in waiting? Geelong were a mess but had the players especially loading up from the 2001 super draft and a couple of drafts either side. We loaded up in 2 super drafts of 2006 and 2008 and have got below elite results.
Don't forget 2009

Well there seem to be two ways to think abou it:

1) Time to go Hinkley
We have the same issues from year one. Our development is poor and our skills abysmal. Maybe some fresh eyes being cast over the list will shake it up and get the best out of it like Scott at Geelong, Beveridge at the Doggies, etc.

2) Stay on Ken and we will back you like Hardwick, Scott or Buckley.
There aren't many options for coach out there and why would they come to put. The list seems to like him and we may lose players if he goes. We just need to tinker with the coaching set up and give him more support/more defined role.

I like Ken and think he seems like a good coach but I have no idea about what trajectory the club is on. It wouldn't surprise me at all if we finish bottom six next year. We have no Adelaide Oval advantage, our skills remain the poorest in the league, we lose in the same manner and we seem incapable of effecting change on field during a game. Perhaps worst of all, crowds are dropping off quickly.

Some tough decisions need to be made and Ken needs to go.

Objectively speaking, the 22 players on the park tonight, even give or take Impey, aren't winning a premiership no matter who the coach is.

Ken has a lot to answer for but we have a 6th-10th list, and that's before we stick half a dozen kids into the cauldron of an elimination final.

Not sure what people really expect.
You could've written the same about the crows squad 12 months ago. I truly believe this list can win a flag.

Alyx thanks for your post, i share your sentiments and get frustrated by the negativity and blame game directed imo unfairly a lot of the time. I too will support the crows and hope they get the flag. The carry on about mediocrity imo some of the comments just reflect on some posters. Obv the coaches and players are very disappointed, only they know the energy, efforts etc been made and some appreciation of this could well be recognised.

We are fast becoming the Woodville Woodpeckers of the 1970's and 80's, where just making the finals would have been seen as a huge success and job done, and even minor round wins were celebrated like they were huge achievements.

That is NOT Port Adelaide, and NEVER should be, regardless of the club going from a state based comp to a national one, and I suspect at least one of the current hierarchy would see this season as some sort of success, and that is absolute bullshit, we are a mediocre middle of the road team that will keep disappointing until some real hard nosed footy people are running the show.

What the club needs is the second coming of a Bob McLean and a Fos Williams!

Not at all obvious one thinks, the elephant in the cupboard comparison is more likely lance franklin.

What are the secret attributes of hard nosed people?

Reckon you're not far off the mark El Z although I understand it's a not a popular opinion.

Apart from being a less is best type person, I believe Port should dump Voss and Nicks and bring in only one experienced coach to work the ruck/mids/forwards with Lade. I just get the feeling too many voices can often confuse things. KISS principle is best.

Defence is working quite well and all that sucess cannot simply be all Basset.

Let's look at the development coaches. Cochrane, Hentschel, Surjan and Greaves. Surely they must all be under severe scrutiny.

Certainly there are several players that should be moved on but a well coached forward line with Dixon, Marshall and Frampton could become formidable.

Anyway, just a few thoughts and no doubt Hinkley will be coaching Port in 2018.

At the moment those comments imo opinion could be more applied to gws

Sydney have made the finals 14 of the past 15 years. In that time they've played in 5 grand finals and won 2 flags. This is across two different coaching regimes and with a full list turnover. The difference in the culture and leadership of that club compared to our club is stark and it doesn't come down to individual players or coaches. But they are the gold standard, not many clubs measure up. That's the level we aspire to.

Are you f**king serious? Please tell me that last paragraph is you channeling Kochie.

I would rather dive forehead first into a thumbtack from four stories up than barrack for that court born, scum sucking, swamp dwelling bunch of motherf**kers. Last night ends my involvement (and care factor) with AFL until next year, except anyone but those wankstains winning the Premiership

My interpretation of that post is that Alyx was taking the piss, I thought the multiple emojis were a dead giveaway. ;)

Yeah I figured that out but it was a good post to give me the oppurtunity to vent my frustrations at the season in general and how its played out for us. Nothing personal Alyx. :)

What prominence would the Sydney football culture have in that? As in the city, where AFL is looked on like the A-League or Big Bash in Adelaide? As much as we like to believe our players aren't put on a pedestal like the neighbours, it's a footy focused two team town and they are by default, even if they don't get a seven page spread in the paper. They're already rockstars but they haven't had any big hits.

It's going to be very hard to get pumped for next season. Groundhog Day.
On the contrary, I cannot wait for next year because their is clearly a changing of the guard and some of our young players are looking very exciting, even some that didn't play last night.
