Stick with Bailey! We are looking alright. Still leaking silly goals sure, but some system and improvement is there. Looking forward to some nice high 2009 picks lining up alongside Watts, Blease and Jurrah next year. Judge him on next year I think.

This year I watch for improvement, and I have seen some already.

Im talking in general, I Have never seen him with any emphasis when he speaks.

Neither does Ross Lyon.

Bailey will stay because we have had 3 different people in just about every coaching/admin position in the last year.

Stynes and co will want stability.

l reckon if there has been no improvement by the end of this year he will be under pressure and possibly out

No.

Bottoming out isn't a one year thing. You don't come last and then the next year come 12th. There is no point to it. If we get picks 1 & 2 this year we will possibly get another KPF(Butcher) and a classy mid (Scully). And all of a sudden our two biggest problems are addressed. Short term pain for long term gain.

The best advice is to look ahead five years, not five weeks. This is the first step to building a premiership list.

4 years

2008- Clean out all the oldies (4wins)
2009- Clear out the rest of the crap (4-6wins)
2010- Start improving (6-10wins)
2011- Finals or very close to playing finals (9-13wins)

I reckon you're one year out there Silvart (or maybe I'm an optimist?)

2008 - clean out all the oldies
2009 - blood youngsters and improve - (4-6 wins)
2010 - Improve dramatically - and even push for finals
2011 - Genuine finals contender.

If we continue to get belted in this fashion for half a year with no signs of improvement i think hes in trouble personally. The dees woes have been largely ignored in the media but something has got to give.

The coach is only as good as his players. they have spent alot of time trying to improve kicking skills but under pressure is when these problems come to light. The problem is we have very few good footballers so your attitude towards Bailey to me is incomprehensible.

The high draft picks on our list are
Watts
Sylvia
Morton
McLean
Jones
Bate
Grimes
Bell
Dunn
Frawley
Blease
Maric
Strauss

The highlighted players have played little or no football and the others have not reached the heights we thought they were capable of. If you compare that list to the high draft picks at other clubs I think you will find where the problem lies. Bailey was chosen as a teaching coach and should be given 5 years to deveolp the team. We may never get there because the current list lacks so much class. Finishing last this year will hopefully provide another couple of players to partially address that problem. We have to be patient.

Melb 2007 - Heavily turn over older players
Melb 2008 - Start blooding youngsters, heavily turnover older players
Melb 2009 - Continue blooding youngsters, still finish low, get high draft picks
Melb 2010 - Improve alot, a finish anywhere from 6-12 possible
Melb 2011 - Finals.

It works perfectly. If you think about it, Carlton only started rebuilding in 2005. Before that they had their top picks taken off them and they were loading up on old hacks in the draft.

Melb 2007 = Carl 2005
Melb 2008 = Carl 2006
Melb 2009 = Carl 2007
Melb 2010 = Carl 2008
Melb 2011 = Carl 2009

I am not a big fan of Bailey, but remember with have the youngest list in the comp and it will take time. I still do believe that he has not got a game plan in place. I reckon we will do better then last year, the problem is playin 4 quarters, if we can play 4 quarters we will win more then last year.

Dean Bailey should be given at least 3 years with The Dees. He deserves to be gven the chance to rebuild this team from scratch. And yes there will be thumpings along the way. But this is why we are supporters of thus great club. Stick around becasue we have the basisi of a very good team here. And by the way...remember that we gave Neale Daniher 10 years.

can't see us being anywhere near finals until 2012

you cant blame bailey for us losing. we will start winning once our players get more experience.
although it is frustrating when they show bailey during a game and he is just sitting there twiddling his thumbs, show some emotion dean, get angry, yell and start throwing things, for **** sake

I can see a plan and improvement from Bailey and our team and so long as that continues then I'd like to see Dean have his contract extended at years end. Two years with the amount of restructure we are experiencing is not enough for a fair assessment of the coach IMO.

I couldn't agree more mate. You can't expect miracles from such a young side. Just sit back, watch the games each week and focus on the small improvements that are definitely visible as the weeks go by. That doesn't mean we will be winning games, just that we should appreciate the small signs that we are heading in the right direction.

Go Dees

I would also like to see some passion & emotion from the man.

OMG HE'S SMILING!!!

People, people, people be patient for Gods sake, you are a rebuilding side it is going to take time. Skills and descion making can't be taught and installed in 2-3 weeks, it takes 2-3 years to do that.

You have a bloke who has a plan and a vision give him time. I know it sucks to be beaten the shit our of week in week out (TRUST ME I KNOW) but you are going to have to take short term pain for long term game.

Trust me there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Melbourne to make finals in 2012.

Errr, so when does Terminator Salvation come out again?

I checked out the MFC coaching stats recently.

Big Carl had a win ratio of 25%.

Dennis Jones had a ratio of 22%.

Badger is staring down the barrell at 12%.

Yes, we all know the context but this cannot go on forever.

Take it somewhere else ladies. MH I'm inclined to agree with you but we have had the Carlton arguement before and we don't need it. EDIT: I see Deestroy has taken care of it.

As for Bailey, I think we are happy with how he is going at the moment. So I think we have two options:

Option 1:Win 4 games this year, halfway through next year we have won 5 or so games and then we give him another 2 year extension to take him through to then end of 2012.

Option 2: Back Bails in - halfway through this year back him in with an extension for 2011. That takes him to a total of 4 years. Midway though 2011 we re-evaluate.

Either way as long as he doesn't win the wooden spoon next year (regardless of this years result a wooden spoon next year is unacceptable) I think he will get the option of some more time to take the group he has put together up the ladder.

In reference to Bailey not showing any emotion, i dont mind that too much.

It shows he has a level head IMO, which would be a godsend for young players when we are in a tight situation. To have him telling you what to do in a calm and reasoned manner would be a great confidence booster.

Hes not like Ross Lyon, who just seems to be uncomfortabley emotionless on occasions, but more of a Niel Craig, someone who has an air of confidence and knowledge about him.

Hawks fans would have been saying the same thing about Clarkson early days.

Unbelievable......... I have a great idea, lets sack him now. The guy can coach, there is no doubt about that. He needs a chance and if you think 2 years is enough then your kidding yourself. We are going to have some terrible beltings this year, thats just being realistic but for once in many years I can see light at the end of the tunnel. We have got some really good draft picks and if we can get a few more this year then we are going in the right direction.

The bloke does not need any pressure applied to him about his own job right now, he knows what needs to be done. How about a little patience, we've waited since 1964 a few more years won't hurt, will they?
