Did we not win??

just finished watching the game, and i can't understand how we managed to not win this game. I can't understand how riewoldt and morton managed not to kick a goal to level it up. I cannot understand how we just gave up all our momentum from that point on and let them kick three easy goals.

I don't think we could have dominated or beaten sydney any more at their own game than we did today - and we still lost....

i literally don't get it. Against Geelong i kind of could, but against a faultering, aging Sydney? i cannot...

:)WE lost because of a relatively poor first quarter and a half.
We found ourselves behind by too much and you can spend way too much energy getting back on level terms to not have anything left in the tank once you get there and that's likely what happened.
The difference was just too much to make up.
Would have been interesting to see which way it went had Riewoldt kicked that goal ... but hey .... after watching it again and again, I think we Tiger fans might a tendency to discount what a bloody great effort that tackle was.

Dude, if we had of played anyone decent today the half time margin would have been close to 10 goals. It's only the fact Sydney play shutdown low scoring footy that we were still in the contest. Having said that in the second half we were every chance to win but just lack of class cost us in the end. We just have far too many players that just rush and panic when the games up for grabs.

Two of many reasons:

1) Long ball comes into Morton, turns on a circle and handballs to Riewoldt who should give the ball back to Morton but takes an aaagggggeeee and gets run down 15m directly in front.

2) Tambling comes up off half back, takes a bounce, and then sweeps a 50m pass to Moores advantage, but he DOESN'T GO!, and waits for the ball to bounce twice, he then dinks off a pass to White who should play first option footy and give safe hands back to Moore and Rance but decides to take them on TWICE and gets caught!

Other reasons:
- The first quater all we did was just bomb it in to Richo time and again
- We kick the ball to Nahas in one-on-one situations. The kids was good using his body a few times, be he is never going to a mark against a guy 6 inches taller then him

We lost it in the first quarter when we were bombing to guy who was injured who had three blokes on him. Waste of time and effort.

We lost because of poor execution, poor tackling/blocking and because Sydney are a better football side then us.

where you watching the same game, how was our tackling poor?

We physically beat the swans today, that was not the issue. We smashed them in clearances today also - so we cannot have been blocking that badly around the stoppages.

If anything i would have thought that we lost because of a terrible forward line set up that relied on a 35 year old with a buggered up ass muscle and our backline let two 31+ year olds control them....

How we managed to get within a goal and be 20 out with a gimme to level - and to not only LOSE the game - but NEVER lead the game - is beyond me. This must be a frustrating team to be coach for - they just won't believe they can win a game, even when they execute and beat the opposition with the correct game plan.

the forward line is a major worry, just seems so "kick and hope" - must admit Nahas has been a massive help though, imagine if we had just recruited ONE quick, pressure roving forward 5 years ago instead of building on mid sized, non pressure forwards like Brown, Morton, Pettifer and such. Unbelievable we have taken so long to select someone with that gamestyle

bang on that

That was baffling - surely that was not the instruction

If only we had a forward that had danger written all over him we'd be a markedly better side ...unfortunately we are having to work awfully hard to maunufacture goals...we're winning some pill for nil return...if one of our young tall prospects was to stand up, we could improve in leaps and bounds...with Cotch and Cuz bought into the side to improve delivery sheez, it couldnt be that hard could it:confused:

we lost because we dont know how to win, we have an inbred losers mentality and need to bring winners to the club to change our mindset and confidence.
tanking will just continue on the losing mentality being happy with losing and not change a thing, we need confident winners at the club, ppl who really believe in themselves

Agree with all that except that Jack should have kicked the goal. An afl footballer worth his weight would turn, see the goals and go bang.
Reiwolt turned took 3 steps looked down and ask he was about to kick and was caught.
Too slow, zero awareness.

Another reason:
Too many loaping dinosours. Pattison makes Angus Graham look like an olympic sprinter.
Pato is too slow to be a key forward, too unskilled too run around on the ball. There is no role for him in the modern game.
I can see patto getting the tap on the shoulder at years end. Angus is ahead of him.

We certainly didn't do that in the first quarter, and was the reason we lost the match.

thats a bit of a wank - so we smashed them for 3 quarters in that area, but because we lost one quarter ( the first ) - thats why we lost??

Surely if we win 3 qtrs in that area (easliy) the reason we lost should not be because we lost one.

If they can win a game winning one quarter in that area - why can't we win by winning three qtrs in that area???

comeon

i thought patto (along with graham) were very very good and beat Jolly. He had 15 possessions and 15 hitouts, not a bad day out! he may look ungainly but he can run any ruckman (barring cox) into the ground. No chance he'll get the tap on the shoulder. This guy can play and has a long career ahead of him

Did we smash them in the second? Up til half time we were pathetic. The first quarter was simply a domination that we didn't recover from.

cant bag patto, he had a good game and is faster than he looks, his running style and gait makes him appear slower than he is

The issue here for White is he is caught in two minds. follow the team rules which is wait until a forward presents, or pass it off to Moore or Rance who will be in the same predicament.

I think one of the biggest issues with our midfield is that we don't have a functioning forward line. They take possession, look up and nada.

OR

he could dish off the easy ball and shephard so that Moore/Rance have more time to make a decision.

was a very very dumb thing he did, hopefully he'll learn

Was at the game. Patto was very slow and the other people watching the game with me said exactly the same thing. He was like a bloke running towards a cab at 3am after a dozen plus beers.

JON loaps around also - if he iDOES possess speed, then he sure as hell doesn't use it.

Tambling use to be the same, ran at half pace. Now he gets the ball and sprints. Tambling looks dangerous when he motors. JON needs a firecracker put up his backside.

2 simple reasons.

1. Richo playing injured
2. Another shit start and playing catchup football. Teams like the swans will protect a lead and strangle you.

the end.

Don't forget JON"S disgracefull tackling and chasing "efforts" and rance's kicking.

He actually tries to kick 10 metre kicks because he is so scared he will tunr it over. Did you see the one he dribbled through the middle of the ground.?

We beat them to the ball don't know if we beat them at their own game though. One thing i noticed was that when they won the ball they would usually move it forward straight away and we got found out many times. When we won the ball we had to move backwards trying to find space, by then Sydney had numbers in our forward line.

Cotchin showed yesterday that he can find space moving forward. Hopefully he can help us in that aspect of our game.

In the end though the first quarter was what got us, we never seem to put in a good four quarter effort.

exactly ... patto is a god footballer .. will definately not get a tap on the shoulder
