There are different debates on this topic that how much gym straps & gloves are effective for a strong grip for lifting & other workouts. However handy tips or professional guide always play an important role in these kind of techniques because safety & good grip is must at the same time while lifting heavy weights. Let's read out some of those & at the end your views are precious to hear.

Really depends on your goals

It's an interesting topic

I understand how a grip giving way can lead to uneven loads/bad form during heavy deadlifts

Traditionally, bodybuilders use straps because they are only focused with the specific muscles worked during the exercise... But there's so many exceptions and difference to how individuals train... BBers are weird. They'll use squats just for quads with quarter reps... We've all seen that stringer top tanned bro grunting out heavy quarter reps with his PT bro spooning him from behind... Lmao. But i guess a lot of BBers use deadlifts just for back muscle development, which is why they usually just do rack pulls... Still in that instance they would use straps

There is no one answer here... Depends on if your goals somehow require great grip strength

Like Raw powerlifters, or especially strongmen

If your training is for sport like AFL... Then it could be either or

I think a combination of both is the best

I believe that you don't need to do all your heavy sets strapless or double overhand to hit your grip hard... Personally I start out the first heavy set with a double overhand, and after that self regulate what my grip/if i use straps in the following heavy sets. if the first set was smooth and no worries for my grip, I continue the same... until the grip starts to loosen and form changes. At that point, pull out the mixed grip or straps. Personally I think that's the best way to go regardless of your goals. Don't feel like you need to do every heavy set double overhand, to get the benefits of improved grip strength... Get a set or two in for the grip, then throw in the insurance of straps or mixed grip to ensure good form.

I'd say everyone, including BB'ers should be doing some sort of grip training. Obviously BB'ers aren't going to need to do as much, but the grip can be the weak point on so many lifts and it's a pain in the arse to set up straps for stuff like pull-ups etc. Doesn't need to be anything fancy. Grippers, Farmers Walk, Plate pinch or DB holds a couple of times a week, 5 - 10 minutes at the end of a couple of workouts. Having thin wrists (and the accompanying lower body anoxeric calves  ) I make sure to train my grip each week, as it's definitely a weak point of mine (and I want to avoid straps).

I wear gloves after tearing the skin on my hands during deadlifts. Tend to do farmers walks at least once per week and for deads I'll use double-overhand for warm ups and then switch to alternate grip. Works for me but understand some will use straps once wrists become the obvious limiting factor in their deadlifts.

i found the squeeze things with high resistance build unbelievable strength. if you get a couple different difficulties e.g. 150 pound resistance 200 pounds resistance then you won't even need the straps anymore its easier just holding the bar. you can get them on ebay.
