How we could get Stevens.

There are rumours circulating about this, and it was published in The HUN some day last week, apparently Scotland wants out (more seniour oppurtunities) and Carlton want Scotland's services. However Carlton are awaiting the AFL's decision as to what draft picks they can trade for. Anyways the rumour is that McKernam to Kangaroos for their 2nd round pick, Scotland for that 2nd round pick. Now we have 1st round and a spare 2nd round pick availble I think we might trade that on for Stevens.

However we may want to hang on to #17 or the extra 2nd rounder (or Port won't except it) so in place of that perhaps they could get McGough.

I think McGough and Scotland for Stevens and a relatively high draft pick is alright. Considering we will be giving away a skilled midfielder (Scotland) for another, and letting go of a young in and under midfielder who is struggling to make a regular seniour appearance when we have too many midfielders like him.
However would Port Adelaide accept this?

Indeed they will, remember how Brisbane lucked in last year with pick3 for Headland? Although Stevens is a lil older (and maybe a lil better, not sure), I cant see Port accepting anything less than a high first round pick, something that other clubs are able to offer.

Whether thats what eventuates or not, who knows. They maybe "Davised" instead.

Scotland is the one that wants out for more opportunities. I dont think he's gonna get much more game time next season so he is probably gone

Im a port supporter and before you all dismiss me as some ****er...you did ask for opinions.
If i was mark williams i would not accept the offer that you put forward, i think that other clubs will make better deals that are much more attractive to port adelaide.
i havent seen much of scotland but i also beileve that Port are not really in the search for a nother midfielder.
Picking up Salopek last year and with Brett Ebert winning the magarey medal i think them plus dom cassisi are ready to step up into more permanent positions. plus Josh Francou to come back.
if you were to get stevens it would have to be a three way deal or someone that you are not really wanting to give up.

Stevens cannot be FORCED to anywhere.
No one can FORCE a player to sign a clearence.
That is why Port and Collingwood will do a deal in the end.
Port may well get done over by accepting less than they originally wanted but it will be better than nothing
17 and 24 plus a player may well be the final outcome and both clubs will live with it.

its facts, i know the headmaster of a school he gives talks and lectures at.

Scotland said he'd asked to be traded and he'll most likely be in SA next year and asked who the headmaster wanted to replace him next year.

Im wondering if this is the kind of deal in theory Collingwood will need to come up with to get stevens. Guerra may not be the right choice but oh well...essentially a 4 club deal.

Carlton gain H.Scotland.
Carlton lose C.McKernan.

Nth gain C.Mckernan.
Nth gain B.Guerra.
North lose D.Motlop.
Nth lose 2nd round pick (24 to Collingwood)

Collingwood lose H.Scotland.
Collingwood lose picks 17 and 24(from Nth).
Collingwood gain N.Stevens.

Port adelaide lose N.Stevens and B.Guerra.
Port adelaide gain D.Motlop and picks 17 and 24.

Very nice...the only thing that throws doubt is what Port get. I think they would want a higher draft pick...somewhere around 10 and 17. Even though Daniel Motlop is a nice sweetener, he is pretty much untried at senior level.

yep, it was a good theory until Carlton were told yesterday they cannot trade into the first two rounds as a part of their penalty for S/C breaches.

We will need to trade Heath to another club to get a pick to on trade.

I know they really screwed the system, but even as a Carlton hater, that is so megaharsh. Its gonna take them years and years to rebuild what even remotely looks like a decent team, if they cant even trade players for round 2/3 picks.

I can't see them dealing with us, because they're overvaluing Stevens.

But I think our best option would be to deal with Norf to get Motlop involved. Motlop (was a pick 8 or so and is a class player) and pick 17 should shut them up IMO.

Laidley knows the quality of some of our lads and won't undervalue them like other clubs will.

Hope Nick is doing what I'd be doing (ie. stone cold and care free ultimatum). Magpies, or nuffin'!

We're trying hard to offer a fair trade and Port best remember that.

What a shame Motlop signed and Carlton is banned from drafting into the first 2 rounds. However i havent given up hope as it seems Scotland IS going to nth for pick 24.

So picks 17 and 24 for Stevens. I think we need a sweetner on top of those picks. We musnt have been able to get a swap for scotland and a higher draft pick from a team that say finished in the finals ala ess( pick 14).

Is there a fringe player we have that Port may take on top of those picks??? McGough perhaps as they need a midfielder.

Any thoughts?
