Same thing on the news earlier.

I have to say, as much as I love Hunter, I don't think this is the worst thing for the team. We're stacked for KPP and while you don't want to lose anyone to injury, Hunter was never going to be in our next premiership.

If he does retire I wish him all the best. At his best he was close to AA and he was really up and flying when we needed him.

Be such a shame to see Adam go out like this. He was a match winner in so many crucial games for us. Loved it when he was Pushed forward.

+1:thumbsu:

Whether he plays on or not, I wish him well. He's given me many fond footballing memories.:)

Worsfold said he may line up with the black ducks on Saturday, in one last effort to prove his shoulder is up for it!:)

^^ Ghey much?

Its ok to have man love for Hunter though, it would be such a hard decision play on for one more year and ruin my shoulder for the next 70 years or play a few games this year (as a send off) and retire. At least it all happened after the premiership it would be allot worse if he had to make the decision in 04/05.

Id retire personally, mabye see if I could get a job with the club next year and ease myself out that way rather then play and ruin my shoulder.

He shouldn't play for Swans, he should be given one more home game for the Eagles and then pack it in. Even if he isn't capable of adding much to the team, fans should be given the opportunity to show their appreciation for his contribution to the '06 premeirship, which was substantial. You've got to love a player that consistently took big marks and kicked goals, when finals games were there to be won.

I am sure if he plays for swans and decides to hang up his AFL boots then the club will give him a send off game.

After all its not like winning is over important so I am sure playing him won't be an issue.

Be nice if he got through this though., sounds unlikely though.

I hope he gets a last game at subi for the eagles :(

Did you see his last game?

Far and away the best attacking defender in our side and by some margin. Knows when to defend and when to run forward into space and create the switch on the fat side. Just a very very good player who should be now in his best years ..... adds a heap to our side and can play as a flanker, third tall rather than just a KP defender - makes Spangher look like a second rate plodder ....

If he could get fit then he is a walk up start for the next 3 or 4 years. A big loss.

Also releases Mitch Brown to the forward line, allowing him and Kennedy to be the tall cornerstones up forward instead of slow plodders like Hansen & Lynch.

Not doubting his talent or value to the team but if he can't get into the side becuase he's injured what good is he?

Like I said, it's the not worst news because we have a lot of players who would love to develop into his role and it's not like Hunter was going to be in our next flag. In essence, it's better that he went down with injury rather than someone who's 21 or 22 and needed for our next assult. Sure, you never like to lose a player to injury but it happens.

I think you are understating his value and his ability. There are no obvious Hunter replacements on our list. A couple of maybes.

As for "next flag", no-one knows when that might be and we could easily argue for getting rid of Cox, Glass and various others on that basis.

Good player, would be better off if he wasnt lost to the team and if he is its a blow. Anyone suggesting its ok because we are "stacked with KP players" clearly doesnt understand how good he has been as an attacking defender.

I gather this extreme man love for Hunter explains why you dislike Wilkes so much.

For what it's worth, I'd say MacKenzie is an obvious replacement for Hunter. E-Mac has had a servicable year and he's going to continue getting better from this point.

If memory serves me correctly, Hunter wasn't much chop as 21 year old but MacKenzie is and I don't see how you can say MacKenzie isn't an obvious replacement for Hunter with that in mind.

Furthermore, we have more than a couple of "maybes" for CHB. After MacKenzie, the maybes are Wilkes, Spangher, Schofield and Jones. That's 4 guys we could start developing as CHBs if MacKenzie started to look like a crab, which isn't even nearly the case.

Hell, even Mitch Brown would be an option for CHB if we felt we had to take that road...Basically, we have more "a couple of maybes".

And with respect to not knowing when our next flag is coming etc. etc. It's very funny for me to read that coming from you, seeing as you're the guy who's been claiming to have invented list management and that Hawthorn should be paying you royalties are a result.

Guess what Mr. "I can put my emotion to one side and make the hard decisions objectively", the hard decision with respect to Hunter is to delist him if his shoulder isn't right. You're 100% pulling out of the contest if you think that isn't the case.

Hunter is 28 years and 1 month and can't lift his arm above his head. Unless we contend for a flag while he's still young enough to be on the list, he wont be a huge loss. No matter how good he's been in the past (and he's been very good) it doesn't the change the fact that we don't desperately need him now.

Don't get me wrong I'd expect and want to keep him if his shoulder is okay but he's played 19 games in 2 years and is a shaddow of his former self and if it comes down to him not being there next year, we wont miss him one bit.

Man love. Extreme. ok....

No, its because Wilkes is shit.

For what it's worth, I'd say MacKenzie is an obvious replacement for Hunter. E-Mac has had a servicable year and he's going to continue getting better from this point.

I like MacKenzie, I called pre-season that Wilkes was finished with the emergence of MacKenzie and that MacKenzie would have a big year. Very happy with him.

Of course as an attacking flanker style half-back he isnt at Hunters level but there you go. Still more likely the long term replacement for Glass.

But whatever floats your boat.....

MacKenzie is fine. Already dealt with, Different role.

Wilkes is a crab. Gone at the end of this year. Schofield I rated but his inability to get a game for most of this year doesnt bode well for him. Jones I agree with but you would hope that he is not finished - he has looked very very poor this year. Spangher.... maybe.... maybe not. Johhny no skills who cant defend players on the lead. But he can run and has some attitude.

MacKenzie is the only one of those who has a chance to be as good as Hunter and thats in a different role.

Overwhelming argument :thumbsu:

Hell, even Mitch Brown would be an option for CHB if we felt we had to take that road...Basically, we have more "a couple of maybes".

Indeed. So could Josh Kennedy or Nick Nait..... ;)

Of course all these could develop in their best spots if Hunts was fit and firing. So its a loss. Which was my point.

And with respect to not knowing when our next flag is coming etc. etc. It's very funny for me to read that coming from you, seeing as you're the guy who's been claiming to have invented list management and that Hawthorn should be paying you royalties are a result.

Have you begun to lose your mind?

I understand you arent very clever but this is all you've got? Really?

The easy decision is to delist him if he isnt right. Its also the obvious decision. My point remains that its a loss. You were the one saying its a good thing because, essentially, we have replacements ready to go....

Hunter is 28 years and 1 month and can't lift his arm above his head. Unless we contend for a flag while he's still young enough to be on the list, he wont be a huge loss. No. As he showed in his last game v Geelong, when even 80% fit he is better than anyone in our back half as an attacking defender and he can play on tall athletic players. He is a loss, we are worse without him. Thats my point. Not that difficult.

Don't get me wrong I'd expect and want to keep him if his shoulder is okay but he's played 19 games in 2 years and is a shaddow of his former self and if it comes down to him not being there next year, we wont miss him one bit.

Well, we will miss him, as we have the last 2 years - when we have been shit. That said, the bold bit is exactly the point I was making. Thanks for rambling on for ages and then agreeing with me.

Your not that good at this are you? :)

I think we can get by without the services of Hunter. As Jimmy has already said, Hunter has been very good for us in the past, but he's now a mere shadow of his former self; due to injury. If he can get his injury right, I'd be happy to see him stay, if he can play consistently at the level he did when he played against Geelong.

Where I do disagree with you Jimmy is with the guys you've named as replacements.
IMO, Jordan Jones is a 3rd tall and not a candidate for the CHB. Or did you mean Bones?
Schofield, while tall, plays the role of smaller guys, in that he plays on a HBF or as a wingman. I don't think Schofield fits the bill as a CHB.
Spangher plays as a HBF in a simiar vain to JoJo. I think JoJo will surpass Spangher in the not too distant future. That'll leave Spangher in a precarious position on our list.
Wilkes is the only one of the 4 who could hold down CHB. If his WAFL form translates into AFL form, he'll be a solid contributor and a regular part of our starting 18. I don't believe he has what it takes to do that though. He's a solid enough player to provide depth though, when injuries occur to McKenzie, Brown or Glass. Otherwise we leave him in the WAFL. My personal opinion is that he's a goat.

I think we're 1 quality tall short. If we were to draft a tall forward, Brown goes to CHB permanently. If we were to draft a tall backman, we would have the right mix. Then we could be rid of the those that wouldn't quite make the grade at AFL, like a couple of the 4 Hunter replacements that has been mentioned.
