OK, just out of curiosity and getting a bit ahead of myself here.

The Scenario:

It's Round 22, the AFC have a top 2 spot sewn up and cannot fall any lower than 2nd. The Club has its longest road trip of the season coming up when we head over to face WC at Subiaco. Do we rest our best players in preparation for the qualifying final the week after

OR

Do we go and send our best players to Perth and try and get a psychological advantage over the club that finished above us in preparation for a possible future encounter (but risking the chance of niggling injuries/sore spots heading into the first week of the finals)

Thoughts?

Excellent hypothetical - one I've been mulling over for a few days.

If we've got second spot wrapped up by then, that'd mean we'd have won at least 11 of the last 14 coming in to the match. Why flirt with form, and why disrupt what works?

It's not as if we could rest the entire 22. With injuries, we'd probably still have to play 16.

Having said that, if the hypothetical situation was true, and if the condition that any player was suffering from would benefit from a weekend on the sofa, then I'd be in favour of resting them.

Must go out there to win and get a phsycological advantage over them if a weaker team is sent over and get flogged gives wc the advantage going on if they were to play off in GF must win game and it also gives some confidence going into the final series after winning at probably the hardest ground to play at. Coming away with a win against WC in subi will buil a tonne of confidence.

Agreed there, it's such a tricky one.

I thought perhaps rotating with the young guys starting in the middle and having a bench consisting of Roo, Macca, Rutten and Hudson. Then you rotate them on for 50-60% of the game (as you would a Reilly or Van Berlo normally) That way they get match fitness but only half the bumps.

I'd leave the more injury prone guys like Welsh, Goody and Hart at home to have a week off and keep the body fresh for the upcoming 4 weeks (hopefully 4 ;) )

Move Smith to CHF and this line up would still beat the Paps

Triggy was a wingman. I'd swap him with Bodey.

The old saying 'Don't flirt with form' comes to mind and I'd stick by this from previous lessons learned by others. The only players I would rest would be those who are carrying injuries that make them 50/50 to play. If the other injuries are being managed professionally, there is no reason to rest a player as their body has become accustomed to playing. You also run the risk of a mental letdown in the run to the finals. Personally, Isay, if you're fit enough to train, then you're fit enough to play.

send the best squad, go out there to win BUT if there are any niggely injured players eg. a Goodwin or Macca give them much less game time. Even if they sit on the bench for the majority of the game, they will still feel a part of the game. :)

And we can still say hello to them from section 206 :D

Send the best available non injured squad. To do anything else could come back to bite us. Injuries could still occur duing the game that might affect the game the following week. :(

Make west coast throw their best at us and give the oppotunity to to the players who have not played finals the chance to learn what west coast is about by playing are senior players on flanks/pockets.
Thats if the result does not matter to ladder position.
Remember west coast have to go to gellong yet and they play a derby before we play them.

If we have second spot sealed up I would also like to see the club try and win but I would rest Goodwin (history of breaking down in Perth) and Ricciuto (precaution before finals)

Bring back Michael Murphy for one game and play him on Judd.

Then Cousins.

Then Matera...

Ahh the great 'spuds' murphy, my grandfathers favourite player during the early years :D
