I watch a video like that, and notice that our personnel has not changed much over time. We might be a tad sore, but I still believe we can be that same outfit.

Let's take a different approach this week. Let's celebrate our great past few years, and what a great team we truly are. Let's celebrate that, rather than dissecting the game to find which player we can berate.

GO CATTERS!:thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

We are still Geelong, and We are still the greatest team of all!

For alll those that have lost the faith!

Remember the following:

We havent had a full team for a number of weeks. Scarlett, Taylor, Kelly, Ottens, Milburn, Wojinski, Chapman, S Johnson all have missed at various stages. The good side of this is that these guys are fresher because of it.

Once the finals kick in, the top teams always perform. THe cats will rise to the occasion. Lets not forget, we beat Hawthorn while badly undermanned, we beat adelaide who are a top 4 team, we got within a goal of St Kilda even though we werent that good.

Last week was a good wake up call! I think getting beaten by Carlton was the best thing to happen to us.

We are 16-3. We are a fantastic team, we didnt get there by being bad. Ok we arent as dominant as we have been but so what????? we right in it because we have won 16 games playing attacking brilliant footy.

Our injuries have given valuable game time to fringe players!

Our forward line has been woeful, yet we have been so competitive bar the Brissy game!

Look at our results this year;

1) we beat bulldogs
2) we beat pies
3) We beat crows twice
4) We smashed Lions at the cattery
5) We beat hawthorn with 2 of our best defenders out

Anyway, i am not worried
U dont becoem a bad team overnight

Keep the faith!

We beat the Hawks twice too.

Actually this means that these players are all either underdone, still carrying their injury at whatever percentage is deemed "fit", or prone to reinjuring themselves at a really inopportune moment. You keep your pie in the sky mentality, hope it works for you. Me, I'm just going to continue watching in dread.

Me, I'm just going to continue watching in dread.

You'll be watching?
I thought you would've torn your membership up by now... :D

Make no mistake, we're a chance to win the flag this year.
Isn't that enough to keep you excited?

I've never once claimed to lose my devotion to Geelong, only that we're not going to salute in September.

Fair enough.

You just sound like a bit of a sourpuss so I thought I'd remind you that being a chance for a flag is still something to be optimistic about... :thumbsu:

Interestingly I was watching some of the 2007 highlights DVD today and thought it may be a good motivational tool for the players. They look so much more focused and pumped. Mind you it was just the highlights and footy was a different game that year.
Still, the things that I noticed most were seeing Cam Mooney leaping over packs for marks, and Nathan presenting like a 195cm MF in the F50.
Gut feeling is that our F50 structure was much better with the more mobile Nablett than with the traditional Hawkins. Also Nablett was harder to defend as he was comfortable on both sides of his body...if only....sigh.....

Re: We are still Geelong, and We are still the greatest team of all!

16-3....you'd take that at Rd 1 any day of the week...especially if you were told you'd be bitten by the injury bug.
2 solid wins, and a respite from further injuries with Ottens returning would put as back to Premiership favoritism and put the fear of God into St Kilda.
I'm not saying it WILL happen, but you can't say it WON'T happen!!

Re: We are still Geelong, and We are still the greatest team of all!

i honestly think you guys WILL win the flag this year. they will just turn it on over these next couple weeks at storm through september. every other team has no chance!

To this day I still consider that Ottens mark against Sydney as one of the best I've ever seen. Considering his size, that's an insane height to get to. And like any good supporter, I spent the rest of the year scoffing at brilliant marks by opposition players saying 'pfft, that's nothing compared to Otto'. Glad he got the prize, even if he couldn't use it.

Can we borrow Josh kennedy for the finals

Two things stand out from that video, Wojac and Otto...two players who feature a bit and are a shadow of their former selves.

Re: We are still Geelong, and We are still the greatest team of all!

If I didnt barrack for us, I would think we were done. Its only the heart that thinks (hopes) we can win it from here. Because my mind tells me we're done.

We haven't been playing the best footy but the majority of the games we lost didn't really mean anything (in terms of ladder positions and such), so I'm not giving up hope just yet. Will be very interesting to see what happens tonight against Sydney.

Re: We are still Geelong, and We are still the greatest team of all!

I agree with OP.

I'm pissed off mainly because if we beat Sydney by 10 goals tonight, everyone will change their tune.

Write us off when we're done. Some pretty piss poor behaviour from Geelong's supporters lately.

What gets me here is what would we benefit if we win any of our next three games that we are not going to get if we loose them huh? (Other than good form) We took good form into the finals last year and ended up hobbling into the final playing players with niggling injuries and not 100% and we paid dearly for it! Manage the list to achieve the best 22 available and all with 100% fitness and ready for battle. Now ask your self this if we have that in the finals what chance would you give us? YYYYYYYYYEEEAAAAAH.
As mentioned in another thread, “Rope A Dope”:D.

Re: We are still Geelong, and We are still the greatest team of all!

But if you leave players out for 3 weeks and bring them in for PF/GF The Gee Spot, what happens when those players feel great yet they don't have the game pace/fitness required and cannot find the form that is so dearly required?

Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Yes, I get your point Chaos and to a degree agree with it, call it momentum (Jees, I wished Otto had a few more weeks of play under his belt). This IMO works when your struggling and have to play and maybe need to win you’re next 4/5/6/7 games before playing in GF with your full team etc. But there is a big difference playing meaningless games with the top 22 players in the team playing full on footy 100klms an hour like you would in the knock out stages! Or if you really needed to win to get into a certain possie in the 8! Like I have mentioned previously, It is my belief that playing all the meaningless games at the end of last season when we were sitting 3 or so games on top cost us heavily in the GF. I would much rather manage the player group to obtain full fitness for the big dances coming up. If that means resting questionable injuries then so be it! Even if you allow players game time but play them in conservation mode etc say 80%! Play like you are on the ropes Like the great Ali, lead others think you are spent, see your moment then go full out attack! Now having said all that, Not that I enjoy defeat at all because I hate it but hear is food for thought! We play the Doggies next week and say we get beaten, they end up equal 3rd-4th (Not considering %) with Pies! That would make the last game of the seasons between Dogs + Pies very interesting wouldn’t it? Maybe just enough spice for both to give each other a very rough tough and physically draining game to the Pies! Who we would play first up? I’m all for that!
Go Cats and bring on September I say.

This raises a very important point - in the larger scheme of things, would it be better to *lose* to the doggies next week????!!!
