I just need to have a bit of a rant as I sit on the Ticketek website on my other monitor. My father is getting older and he has struggle walking upstairs to the top of level 4.
We are both AFL gold members + my other relative, but the way Ticketek changed the system this year, it's a total shamozzle.
You can be sitting there thinking at 1pm with no queue and just come back at 1:45pm to the PC for the 2pm timeslot - and suddenly there is 15,000 people in front of you. For ANZAC day, I ended up with 2 standing room only seats, and one up in heaven. We ended up not going, due to the security issues, weather, my father said he had a bad back, yadda yadda.
Now here I am again, I've been on the PC since 1:30pm waiting for 2pm when Hawthorn Round 12 tix go on sale. Looks like smooth sailing, suddenly at 1:55pm there are 7000 people in the queue in front of me. Again I'm not going to have any chance of gettting the seats we want.
Do we seriously need to be 1892 members for $2000 a year on top of AFL members, just to get decent seats to big games?!?
Do Legends members have to go through this song and dance as well?
I don't know how many years I have left, going to the football with my father, who doesn't really interact with me socially except for this shared time.
This book on emotionally immature parents explained a lot, but that's a different topic entirely.
We used to be Collingwood members, we used to have regular seats at Victoria park when I was a little kid. We used to have some sort of AFL "members" support package, it was always a hassle but this year is just harder than ever.
Took 18 minutes just to get in. So forget getting any Level 2 seats, or even the front of Level 4. I got row T for Hawthorn. Then I have to go back and get seats for the Adelaide game. Of course no Level 2 for two seats together available.
Imagine if there are two blockbusters in one ticket batch? I think I had to get Carlton and Geelong tickets at the same time already this year.
I might not even try to get tix to Kings birthday. What is the point when every AFL cardholder even if they aren't Melb/Collingwood fans, can sit on the PC and scalp a few tix to get payback on the membership fee?
It's ridiculous, we have better chance of getting good seats to the FINALS then to ANZAC day and King's birthday.
Edit: So I just called the club. I was told:

Edit: So I just called the club. I was told:
- Standard reserved seat membership - definitely don't oversell the bay, you will always get a seat. But he said (I can't believe this) that Ticketek system allocates you best available for "the first few hours" so you can't choose to get a seat behind the drip line until "the website is not so busy".

- I can't get into Club 1892 because it is full. I can't get on the waitlist unless I am a Legends member. I can't get a Legends membership unless I am a Collingwood member. So I have to pay for "Magpie Insider" or some other package just to get onto the Legends waiting list.
- Then we would have to wait 2 or 3 seasons until we are out of our premiership window and in the rebuild phase so the waiting list drops off, and then have to wait a few more years to get the sanctified Level 2 club 1892 package.
- They can't even add anyone to the waiting list right now, it is "frozen" until after July when they maybe have updated their systems by then.
