I just need to have a bit of a rant as I sit on the Ticketek website on my other monitor. My father is getting older and he has struggle walking upstairs to the top of level 4.

We are both AFL gold members + my other relative, but the way Ticketek changed the system this year, it's a total shamozzle.

You can be sitting there thinking at 1pm with no queue and just come back at 1:45pm to the PC for the 2pm timeslot - and suddenly there is 15,000 people in front of you. For ANZAC day, I ended up with 2 standing room only seats, and one up in heaven. We ended up not going, due to the security issues, weather, my father said he had a bad back, yadda yadda.

Now here I am again, I've been on the PC since 1:30pm waiting for 2pm when Hawthorn Round 12 tix go on sale. Looks like smooth sailing, suddenly at 1:55pm there are 7000 people in the queue in front of me. Again I'm not going to have any chance of gettting the seats we want.

Do we seriously need to be 1892 members for $2000 a year on top of AFL members, just to get decent seats to big games?!?

Do Legends members have to go through this song and dance as well?

I don't know how many years I have left, going to the football with my father, who doesn't really interact with me socially except for this shared time.

This book on emotionally immature parents explained a lot, but that's a different topic entirely.

We used to be Collingwood members, we used to have regular seats at Victoria park when I was a little kid. We used to have some sort of AFL "members" support package, it was always a hassle but this year is just harder than ever.

Took 18 minutes just to get in. So forget getting any Level 2 seats, or even the front of Level 4. I got row T for Hawthorn. Then I have to go back and get seats for the Adelaide game. Of course no Level 2 for two seats together available.

Imagine if there are two blockbusters in one ticket batch? I think I had to get Carlton and Geelong tickets at the same time already this year.

I might not even try to get tix to Kings birthday. What is the point when every AFL cardholder even if they aren't Melb/Collingwood fans, can sit on the PC and scalp a few tix to get payback on the membership fee?

It's ridiculous, we have better chance of getting good seats to the FINALS then to ANZAC day and King's birthday.

Edit: So I just called the club. I was told:
  • Standard reserved seat membership - definitely don't oversell the bay, you will always get a seat. But he said (I can't believe this) that Ticketek system allocates you best available for "the first few hours" so you can't choose to get a seat behind the drip line until "the website is not so busy". 🤯
  • I can't get into Club 1892 because it is full. I can't get on the waitlist unless I am a Legends member. I can't get a Legends membership unless I am a Collingwood member. So I have to pay for "Magpie Insider" or some other package just to get onto the Legends waiting list.
  • Then we would have to wait 2 or 3 seasons until we are out of our premiership window and in the rebuild phase so the waiting list drops off, and then have to wait a few more years to get the sanctified Level 2 club 1892 package.
  • They can't even add anyone to the waiting list right now, it is "frozen" until after July when they maybe have updated their systems by then.
Kayo, an airfryer and the new 77" LG G5 looks like a much better option .... that's the state of it.

I feel your pain.

There has to be a better system but while the pig troughs are full they won't do anything.

I would say try and get a Membership with Reserved Seats

That what I do
Spot on TD. I love my legend membership and will never give it up. Once I’m dead it goes to my kids.

Cool I am also one

Though I am not sure what Extra we get as Social Club Members
Nothing really, just access to the social club bar. Used to get a lot more, like the cocktail night at Crown and access to player nights at the club.

Was that something I remember from the 2000's that they use to have something at AIA Center after the Game where players after the game would come talk?

The Club hates the existing Ticketing system as well.
Kelly has stated that they and other clubs are looking for an alternative but it’s a big complex system.

I know vendors that have met with them about alternatives but Ticketek/master are so embedded.

I love my membership that brings with it a regular reserve seat. 30 years of club membership investment in it.

I’m afl gold and legends member (you get the legends membership half price if you have afl membership). I find the legends membership sitting experience way less stressful, always have a good seat and guaranteed a gf ticket. I use the gold to go to other games with mates and a high likely hood of getting gf tickets if the pies are not playing and cheap prelim tickets. But regular games getting a seat especially for the pies games, it’s rubbish.

I’d imagine a ticketing system would be insanely complex - dealing with reserved seats, no shows, Club / AFL / MCC memberships, each of which has many membership classes within it and each with different seat allocations, access seating, cheer squad tickets, club and AFL staff and comp seating …

… people changing their mind, people with “My friend from out of town is visiting, can I get an extra ticket?”, “I pressed the wrong button on the ticketek website”, “both my wife and I accidentally both bought tickets to the same event”, “my son is at school camp, can I return the ticket?” …

… people wanting seats that are close to the bar, close to the toilets, close to the cheer squad, far away from the cheer squad, the same great seat as last time, at ground level for the best experience, up high for the best experience …

… people who are trying to get onto the website on computers that are so gummed up with viruses and malware that they can’t get on the website and blame Ticketek, etc, etc, etc.

80,000 people going to an event and every single one of them having different expectations.

Even if you manage to satisfy or even delight 75,000 of them, 5000 unhappy people is a lot of unhappy people.

I'm a Gold AFL member - rarely have had an issue with ticket booking.

Have attended almost every grand final since getting gold / full membership - back in 2001. Always get a reserve seat for any of our games - home or away - at the G.

Not sure of the wait now, but I reckon Gold AFL Membership is really good value.

Now I am also an MCC Provisional member - have to run both until I eventually get full MCC (in about 3 decades!!).

As a Gen-X person I feel my AFL Membership is my version of boomer property privilege. I joined as a Silver member in 1990 as a 12 year old, it got me into the GF that year and then just 2 years later I got upgraded to Gold when the Southern Stand was rebuilt.

I've been to every GF at the G since 1990 except for the year I spent backpacking after Uni (2000 - picked the right year to miss).

I will hold on to my membership tighter than a US gun nut clings on to their assault rifle. If I go broke, it will be the very last possession I retain.

It's at least 14 years. I signed up my kid when she was born and she's still silver aged 14.

yeah think it could be more like 20 even on that now.

I was given it as a christmas present in 1995 when I was 11 years old - first season was 1996. I was offered full membership (what it was called then), just before finals in 2001 - so only took 6 years back then but more people go on the wait list than leave the membership - so it keeps increasing.

Ticketek is an absolute joke. The AFL decides to release tickets for rounds 16 to 23, all at once.

As a Collingwood supporter, if you don't buy tickets, you don't get in - it's as simple as that. Versus Carlton, Richmond, Hawthorn - I need to get reserved seats even to sit up in heaven.

15 minutes into the queue at noon and I'm still not even into the system to buy the first ticket:

Ticketmaster just as bad, got to pay $30 for a reserve seat for a ticket you’ve already paid for. 11 game membership is more like a 6 game membership these days

You must have just been in front of me Kes, got mine in 1996 and upgraded to gold midway through 2002

Has anyone tried purchasing tix from Ticketmaster for the Eagles match?

I'm trying to redeem my seat for this match (Legends member) but it's not giving me an option to select quantity of tickets and also giving me the message 'Unfortunately, there are no upgrades available for this Member Code'

Driving me nutty.

I bought my 3 MCG tix via Ticketek with ease this morning.

* Edit : Eagles tix do go on sale on Thursday. I even had Thursday noted in my calendar if I'd bothered to check 🙄

I thought the Eagles tickets went online Thursday?

If they do, that would explain my issue 😆

But the Ticketmaster site says 'presale happening now'. General onsale on 17/6.

Anyway, no drama I suppose, as I don't expect this to be a sellout.

Tix for Blues & Hawks were my high priority today.
