he is amazing.. been a real asset since he has started playing... 110% all the time, tackling, smothers and his raking left foot! we've got a real gem on our hands!:D

I feel the exact same way, I went to the game and noticed the effort he gives. His tackling is really, really great, and his ability to find the ball is good too. Can see alot of great things ahead. If he can work on his kicking a little more, too kick further and accurate, we could have a great half backmen/forward;)

Big fan of the boy. Tackles well, and a nice thumping kick. Bit more experience and bulk, and he can do just about anything. Could always play him in an Adam Hunter style role

He does seem to have that something special about him.

His tackling is absolutely first class. You can definitely see his rugby league background coming through.

Combine that with his athleticism, long kick and ability to play forward or back and I think we've got ourselves a kid with a great future ahead of himself.

Dare I say it but another very good selection by John Beveridge. :)

While I'm at it full credit to Jayden Attard as well. He might not be the most fashionable player going round but his game on Brett Deledio was brilliant. It's great to see young players like Gilbert and Attard working so hard with plenty of second efforts. We even saw the same from Raph Clarke tonight which was extremely encouraging.

SSSShhhhhhhhhh! Don't talk too loudly or the footy gods might hear us ....

Raph looks like he's working himself back into good physical condition, which is the first step to playing some good football.

good call, only saw bits and peices of the game but he was looking the goods.

i give the poor bastard a bit of flack but theese 2nd teir players like raph and fiora seem to be stepping up a bit (great to see)

I just watched the replay of our win over the Eagles (again :o) and Raph's tackle in the last minute was fantastic and he carried that on.

I loved it when X and Raph combined to pressure the Richmond player (King I think) into rushing a behind.

But I don't want to deflect anything away from a thread set out to pay tribute to the great Sam Gilbert.

It's spelt G-I-L-B-E-R-T if there are any Rising Star judges out there who hasn't found an over hyped youngster that has played one good game to select and decide to reward a kid who has been consistently good for a number of weeks.

I can't wait to see Gilbert play 30-50 games - does look a very handy type.

I agree with Sainter about Attard. His career was at the crossroads. He has been excellent coming off the rookie list. Attard has actually had a pretty good year, as well as his excellent stop job on Deledio

Has been very unlucky not to get a NAB Rising Star Nomination. He should get it this week though :thumbsu:

:):)SAM GILBERT NAB RISING STAR :):)

Just looks like a matchwinner, has a real special competitiveness. Can we get him to the lions next year. Reverse go home factor, only joking. Great to see St Kilda recruiting quality qld kids.

Was good today except should've made a spoil in the last quarter and also failed to chase O'Bree when he ran in and kicked that goal.. both pretty crucial moments. Otherwise played a really good game.

I played on him four years ago and beat him hungover so he's obviously come a long way and his improvement curve must be high. He was very impressive today which doesn't seem to make any sense to me but good luck to him!

Yeah it's a hard concept to grasp how people can improve sometimes..Wait are you a collingwood supporter??

He's playing AFL footy; what are you playing now?? 'nuf said :D

You peanut. I was trying to pump him up by putting over how much he's improved and you take it as an attack. Imbecile.

I was using myself as an example to put that across - because, as you so rightly insinuated, I am a nobody playing nobody football. He's done very well.

His improvement has been amazing. Obviously a few years ago he was ordinary at local level, then made a fair bit of improvement and was drafted. Last year he was embarrassed playing with Casey and often didn't look like he was up to VFL level. He has now cemented his spot in our best 18 and looks like he'll be a 200-game player.

Big Statement, but Sam Gilbert is now one of our best tackler at the club. His defenceive skills are great. He adds toughness to the team too even though he is build like a string bean. Has the great ability to keep his feet when its needed which is a talent on its own.

WHY HASN'T THIS GUY HAD A NAB RISING STAR NOMINEE????

I'm also a real fan of Clinton Jones.

These two guys could be the rising stars we are looking for in the next few years.

Not too sure about that - I'd question his accountability sometimes. Going to be a good'un though - it's a farce that he hasn't been nominated yet particularly when you look at those that have been.. still 7 rounds to go.

Clint Jones is really impressive too :thumbsu:
