As opposed to when the unemployment rate is seriously high....like it was in the 90's.
Have you thought about why the unemployment rate is low then? Perhaps because there isn't much work available...?

 I'm a little confused about what you are saying.

The unemployment rate is low now and there is lots of work available. When the unemployment rate is high, it is more difficult to find a job as you are competing against more people to get that job.

About 2 months ago I advertised for 2 Business Analysts and only 3 applications came in. If there were a shortage of jobs around I would get 100 applicants. I ended up hiring a couple of girls with basic admin experience who are now on good money (even without the experience I was after). There is no competition for jobs anymore because they are so easy to find. As a result I didn't receive the best quality of candidates. Its definitely a job hunters market.

Conversely, it may mean that everyone else is employed, so all the jobs are taken...

They're not all taken. There are thousands of positions advertised on the the job sites.

Also I wouldn't be struggling to get applicants if there weren't many jobs out there. People would be kicking the door down trying to find a well paid job like I was offering.

There are always thousands of jobs advertised...that doesn't make them easy to get...

Just playing devil's advocate.

Second the seek.com.au suggestion. Got my last two part time/casual jobs without much difficulty.

I also do footy umpiring for a bit of cash. Most sports officiating is pretty straightforward as employers are always screaming out for more umpiring stocks in most sports (it's a matter of finding out about thow they do the training etc.).

Camp Australia are always looking for new people to work in after school care. Good money and very flexibile hours! check out their website and apply online
