Why did that happen?

How can you be up by 40 points at half time and lose at your home ground?

Is there an 'Aka' issue? Are the team avoiding him?

I will not put this one down to Voss and Lappin being missing, because they showed they were quite capable of winning that game if they chose.

I seem to remember you asking a similar question after the loss to WCE earlier in the year. My response would be, if you were at the game, then you yourself should be able to name reasons as to why we lost.

The simple reason why we lost the game (regardless of whether or not we had a 5 goal or more lead), was because players weren't playing at their best (for whatever reason), and we were beaten by a good opposition team, who were playing reasonably good football.

As to why our players weren't playing well, you could have 22 or more reasons for this. The game is full of variables.

Although I am not on the "inside" of the players' circle, I doubt that there would be an issue regarding Akermanis. For starters, he has been at the club for many years, and likewise, has been a relatively good performer this season after a couple of great years of football, and has been a fairly prominent performer in recent weeks as well.

At any rate, whether or not the other players "like" Akermanis or not, they have recognise their professional duty to live with the fact that he is one of the best players in our side, and play accordingly.

At the end of the day, we are talking about our 4th loss for the season. We are still second on the ladder, and whether or not we can return to the un-earthly high standards that we set last season, we are still a damn good team, with a chance of doing well in the finals. There is nothing "wrong" with our side, apart from the fact that some players aren't playing at their best (which is just part of football, at any club). All that will come out of the result, will be in regards to which players make up our best team that we have available, with those who aren't performing well enough to hold their spots, being forced to face the consequences.

Don't get ahead of yourselves yet. Your peaking to early and will drop off the pace. A few injuries and your stuffed.

Wrong there.

I dont think anyone at Port is getting ahead of themselves....Floods comment was tongue in cheek i beleive. Considering weve never won a final id hope noone is getting ahead of themselves.

As for your injuries comment...totally wrong. Weve had injuries all year and missed certain players during the year...with also a number of players playing with injuries (Primus, Monty and Peter Burgoyne are three examples who have played injured at various times of the year). We've lost 1 game since Rd 2, and had a number of various injuries since then. Wanganeen, Lade and Dew have missed games thru injury...and Primus, altho playing every game has relatively missed two getting injured in the first minute against Carlton and Geelong (i think it was geelong). This is not mentioning missing Scott Bassett early in the season who would of been a walk up start to our defence had he not been injured for 8 or so weeks in the pre season/start of the regular season. Also not mentioning Wilson and Paxman who are out for the year, both who would of made our starting 18 had they been fit at the start of the year.

Also the things you dont see, the reserves players fighting for positions....Shaun Burgoyne was in Port Magpies top 3 for about 6 weeks in a row before he got a go...Adam Morgan was BOG for 4 weeks in a row and couldnt get a game, Michael Stevens playing great at Centrals, Derek M urray BOG many times for South before breaking a leg, Thurstans continuously beating forwards for South, Cassisi regularly in Wests best all season and only finally getting a match this week....Chris Hall in Souths top 3 players basically all year and cant get a game, now Allan Murray in the last month has put his hand forward to get a game as the third tall forward in our side.

So to say 'a few injuries and you're stuffed' makes me laugh as simply...its not true.

Yeah a bit of tongue in cheek! I guess we see it as our toughest game left and coincidentally it is the last round of the year, and over the last couple of weeks a few people have hyped it up as a mini GF, I went to the Gabba this year in rd 7 when u guys mauled us, I was devastated and thought that we could of cost ourselves top spot and having to play a home final in Melb, I have been waiting for revenge since, but a few upsets and things have changed, I am not getting ahead of myself but i know how hungry Port is. Port got put out by Bris and Haw last year and Rd 7 they were pumped and hungry and to lose that game they were shattered and I think the only thing to kill this hunger is more wins and maybe a premiership but one week at a time

My comments about Aka are not about his contribution, it is about his behaviour towards his team mates.

He reacted badly to a poorly delivered ball from a team mate and that is never good for team moral during a game.

No doubt Aka is a great and natural footballer but I never do like seeing any team player chastising a team mate because he stuffed up. The player that did the poor delivery would already feel bad and would not appreciate being told off on the ground by a fellow team mate for the world to see.

In that situation, it is best not to say anything at all and get on with the game.

Aka's reaction was nothing compared to the Scott's and Leppa. I think that's where we were really missing Vossy. His leadership is great and sadly missing.

I think you're missing SB's point.

I think the point that he was trying to make, was that if you were to suffer a number serious injuries to players in the FUTURE, this WOULD impact on Port's on-field output. Whether or not you have dealt well with injuries you have had "so far", is a different point.

.... hahaha..... someone else has noticed... he has a whinge if he doesnt get given the ball... but then he just streams into the 50 & doesnt watch or notice how much time & space he has & then just blazes & gets a point.... but if anyone else misses it & doesnt pass it to him...... he is abusin them....

Maybe they need a jolt. A lot of them are playing for themselves, not thinking of the team. Not backing up for 2nd and 3rd efforts.Just expecting the ball to come to them. Aka is a prime example of this. He never seems to go looking in and under for the ball, he waits for it to come out of the pack. Voss and Lapin and Black get the hard balls, with 2 of these out other midfielders need to step up to this role, and they are not doing it. Power is another one.

To get agro at team mates is not good. Maybe Aka should stop thinking of himself and thugby haha, and get back to basics and play with his team mates again. Not a singular game.

ok thants understandable. i miss understood you before.

i agree 100% with what you said and its true, its a team sport therefor players must play as a team. i didn't concerntrate too much on aka, so i dont really know what happened, but as far as i could see things were fine. but as i said - i wouldnt know.

i hope the rest of the season goes well for you.

Akermanis is not an in-and-under player. He has always been a receiver, and has capitalised on the work of Voss, Lambert, Black, and others. Expecting Akermanis to play this role, when he is clearly suited to a different style isn't reasonable, especially when we do have a number of genuine in-and-under types who are capable of taking that role.

Likewise, I don't see why L.Power is being criticised, as he has been fairly good all season.

i think that lukey could be doing a bit more & i am sure that the way he has been talking lately that he thinks the same...

OH & BUT AKA"S A STAR HE CAN DO ANYTHING.... **THE THRUTH COMES TO LIGHT... THIS JUST ISN"T TRUE**
