If Brendon Ah Chee ever hits you with a left hook

My opinion is that ah chee is more talented than s gray, but Ah Chee is massively mentally weak. He loses confidence during a game. It is very strange. He falls out of games. I don't think Port need any more downhill skiers in the team. I like arch and think he is talented but he is never going to put it together at Port. I thought he should have gone to the Gold Coast last year. Maybe playing with his brother in a non football town would bring out his best.

Personally I think he gains confidence during a game. He often has started slowly, gaining momentum as he gets into the match provided he is given time on the turf rather than the bench.
Shanghai was a perfect example.
If indeed he loses confidence, be it at the start of the match or later, I maintain it is being coached out of him, especially on Melt Night.
Ye gods he's shown his loyalty ... and that loyalty is also on the record. If there is an exemplar of culture at our Club, this lad is IT.

Honest question, what exactly has SGray been doing at AFL level that makes him better than Ah Chee?

Not having a go at you or anybody else.

Ah Chee for uses the ball alot better, has more goal assists, and actually kicks goals when given the opportunity.

SGray 18D/0.8 goals a game
Ah Chee 16D/1.5 goals a game, and more goal assists in less game time.

Both are equal for tackles at 2 a game.

The spot that SGray has seemingly cemented himself as a first 18 player should belong to Ah Chee.
Pressure acts and goal assists

S Gray is faster and both spreads harder and defends opposition transition better than Ah Chee. In every game he played, Ah Chee had someone burn past him through the corridor.

The better question is what does Young add that Ah Chee doesn't? For both, their best position is as an inside midfielder, but have to be shoe-horned into the half forward line because they are behind Wines, Ebert & SPP (and rightly so).

I'd also argue that you are selling S Gray's disposal short(lol). He is one of our most consistent kicks i50 - regualary lowering the eyes and hitting the leading target. I wish he could kick goals but.

John Cahill always gave credit to fierceness and courage for the success of a Port side. Sam Gray has all this, which impacts on whats between the ears of others in the 22. Flair only comes with confidence. There are more talented players available, but Sammy is always in my side. The day we don't need this bloke will be the day we are kick'n arse big time.

I don't really get why Arch gets dropped so easily . He plays one quiet one and he's dropped , he doesn't stuff up regularly , moves the ball on , takes his shots then gets dropped after a quiet on in a loss . I guess it's because he lacks outside sped but I think he's talented enough to let him have 50 games before we move him on , we need skill and his are very good

This year is the perfect example of this. Came in for four weeks, played one good game, two ok games and then one poor game (when pretty much everyone played poorly) and then gets dropped. And people wonder why he might lack confidence!!

I'm firmly in the Ah Chee has talent camp and wish he could find some consistency. He is an inside mid and potentially a goal kicking mid.

But how many times do fringe players get an extended run in the position of their choice? He needs to be able to take the opportunity when it arises, even if that is as a half forward or defensive forward.

Too soft. Got the weapons but he just doesn't have the aggression needed to succeed at the highest level. Moore was the same.

Like Hale and Pace said about a shopping trolley that was on bricks and had its wheels stolen....that's a crying shame that is.

he has had plenty of opportunities, his effort against Essendon deserved to be dropped (yes he wasnt alone)

for the big lad that he is he seems to lack a bit of mongrel

disappointing to let this get out mid-season, he has surely just burnt that bridge

Whether you think Arch is good enough to make it or not good enough to make it, I think we can all agree that being in your sixth year on the list and still having not established yourself as a best 22 player spells trouble. He needs a veritable miracle to stay on the list beyond this year.

Good size for a footballer and has reasonable skills but nothing that separates him from the pack. Goes missing for large periods of the game. Closer to 25 than 21 years of age.

Let him seek opportunities elsewhere if that's what he wants to do. If we can get a draft pick for him great, give another kid a go.

We've got a habit of holding on to players a bit too long.

I have no doubt that Arch lacks confidence, as would most players who were under the pressure of knowing it's one bad game, and then sayonara. :(

I predict the same will happen with Eddy when/if he is eventually picked for the Power again, Kern's selection policies will eventually get to him as well.

Eddy's age will get him before his confidence does. I'd he gets a chance he gets a chance. I would be annoyed if Doogy was not in front of him and next year Marshall. We are not going in with any more number of talls than we already have.

I think Eddy is great for the club in the SANFL and maybe if Dixon goes down but I can see him on our list for 3 years doing a brilliant job in the SANFL and playing a handful of AFL games. AFL game plans seem to have evolved to limit the number of talls played.

I don't believe the reports in the way it has been reported. As much as Hinkley disappoints many it just doesn't seem to fit that he would have told Ah Chee he was going to play sanfl for the remainder of the season.

I do remember that Ah Chee asked for a trade to be considered but if it wasn't on then he was happy just as happy to be at the club.

I think he has talent, a good mark, high reach, good leap, good disposal by hand but his desire is questionable.

We hold onto fringe players too long whilst turning them over could find us a gem. There will always be a multitude of fringe players, why hold onto them? As much as I like Ah Chee he's under the microscope. As is Young ... he disappoints me more.

"Been told he'll play the rest of the year in the SANFL barring injuries" sounds like manager bullshit to me
