If Essendon draft Skipworth, would he be in our best 22?

I remember Skipworth having some pretty good games for the Crows. He struggled to get a game because they had such a strong midfield. Nothing against our midfield, but Skippy will definitely hold his own in our midfield. I think he could actually surprise a few people.

He's not Cousins, but we don't even know if Cousins is as good as Cousins, if you know what I mean!
I do, and i hope seeing as we didnt take him that he isnt as good as pre-exile cousins

Could it just be that Skipworth just couldn't break ito a very strong Adelaide midfield?
with Riccuto, Edwards,Mcleod, Goodwin and co,dominating at Vfl leve this year and gaining more experience he just may turn out to be ok!

If Skipworth is in our best 22 it proves that our list is in far worse shape then we thought it was.

Thank god it is not the case.

So merv, Ant and co. Skipworth in best 22? Cant see why you would get a 25 year old if he wasnt.
Anyone willing to take a stab at how many games he plays given he is injury free. I rarely watch a game of VFL so whats his skills like?

None of them are silly enough to say that he is in our best 22.

Extract from Essendon Website article.

Knights said Skipworth was a perfect fit for the mid-age player bracket of 23-28 years that the Bombers lacked, and would be an asset after showing his willingness to work with the club's youngsters.

"Hayden is a great fit both from a playing perspective, and also with his development and mentoring with the younger players; it's nothing short of sensational," he said.

...

Skipworth said he was already entrenched within the Bombers' ranks, having lived and worked with some of the players.

"I had David Myers, Tayte Pears and Kyle Reimers live with me in the Samsung club house last year, so those boys I've had my eye over all year and have tried to fast-track their development and help them become regular footballers," he said.

This shows what Knight's believes he will contribute (on and off the field) and has already shown some leadership qualities with the younger players.

So regardless if he plays in every game, or if he is in our best 22 he will still contribute something.

How would he compare to Monfries in your humble opinion?

dont agree with this, dont mind monfries & at his best, yes gets a game each week, but havent seen his best for a while

My opinion on Monfires is the opposite to Stugots. On 2008 form Monfries is an absolute lock for best 22. Stugots were you overseas during the 2008 season?

So who else would play the defensive forward slot should Monfries not be in the side?

Welshy's settled in the midfield now, any ideas on who could fill it better than Angus?

In the second half of 2008, he kicked goals, he took running flankers out of the game and worked his arse off to keep the ball in the forward 50. He's a lock for mine.

I'd pick Davey and Jetta in front of Monfries every day of the week. McPhee as a hit up would be way in front. That leaves 3 talls.

Monfries is not a lock for a spot in the side(18 no, 22 possibly). He might be one of those unlucky guys that if we start playing well and winning he might not get a game.

i disagree, davey and jetta would be our two traditional crumbing forwards however monfries plays an entirely different role to those two and also a very different role to mcphee, late this season he was great imo. i think mcphee will be moved around a lot next year depending on where injuries occur, i would like to see him back on the HBF.. also davey spent a fair bit of time in the middle this year before his injury.

This post is wrong in so many ways.

It's not a matter of being impressed as muchg as myself or other people.

The part of your post which astonished me was when you said this:

"dont mind monfries & at his best, yes gets a game each week, but havent seen his best for a while"

2008, especially the second half, was easily the best form Monfries has shown in his career to date, so your comment makes no sense at all.
