We'd most likely end up 5th.
This is what i hope would happen...

1st Elmination Final:
Collingwood vs Carlton
We beat our bunnies of 08; their home ground advantage is nothing since we are here anyway

SemiFinal
Bulldogs vs Carlton
WIth the loss of Rd. 17 still haunting them; the Bulldogs are overrun

Preliminary Final
This is where we bow out!

Would be nice if we made it but lets not get carried away. If we were a finals threat we should have beaten Essendon, ST. Kilda and Sydney. Truth is we aren't ready for finals just yet. Plenty to be proud of this season for the Blues, I am sure a lot of the teams in the top 8 will be running a little scared having to play us because on our day we can push a lot of them expect for maybe the Hawks and the Cats. I am delighted the way we have gone about it this season, more so the way our kids have played a big part in all our wins.

this week coming hawks to beat Collingwood Wce to beat st kilda <-
Geelong to Beat Richmond & Brisbane to beat North:thumbsu: wins to Hawks, wce & Geelong & Brisbane would help us move up rd 19 collingwood v st kilda hmm we'd be half a game behind north
if we finish 7-8th would be a bonus or higher up depening teams abover results look at the bulldogs last year fell out of the 8 and this year 2nd spot big jump to last year if they can do it we can too

NOT saying we will make finals.... but for us to make the finals we're going to have to get on a roll.

If we do get on a roll and string up wins against Adelaide, Port, North, Brisbane, Hawthorn (winning all, or losing 1), we will most likely be one of the "In form" teams leading into the finals.

We've shown we can beat the Dogs, come close against the Swans... if we do make finals.. odds are we will have a few wins against Adelaide/Hawthorn/North/Brisbane whom are all current top 8 teams.... and this would be indicative of our good form.

Remember 95... Brisbane had a great last month of the season and were only second in form behind Carlton leading into the finals... they finished 8th... and they almost scared the heck out of us in the first round of finals (1st V 8th back then) where we only got up by 2 goals.

Again if we make finals I would suspect our form would be good enough for us to have a chance to win our first final. At current rate our next final would be one of Bulldogs/Hawthorn/Swans of which against Dogs and Swans we currently could feel confident of a good showing and chance (I'd love to play dogs at the G).

So in summary if we do make finals
  • Our form in the later part of the season would make us one of the "in form" teams
  • Playing either in 5 v 8, 6 v 7 with the form we'd be in to have made it into the finals we'd be a good shot you'd think.
  • Win our first final, we could go into the next final with some confidence as you'd think we may be against a Dogs or Swans outfit that we've proven we can beat this year.
  • Win a second final, we'd face a rested team in the prelim and sorry to say, odds are it'll be a Geelong and we'll most likely lose.

It's a good theory but in reality it is going to be very hard. All these teams have experienced finals players. We only have less than a handful, finals is a big big jump when compared to the home and away season. We are still too prone to believing our own press, we still make very bad skill errors and if you are going to make simple errors in a final you will get slaughtered. On the other hand we have come a very long way from last season, so many positives they out weigh the negatives. I would love to see the Navy Blue jumper playing in September, but I don't think it will happen this season. Next season for sure we will finish top 8 and the year after push hard for the top 4.

How the f--k do the Eagles get to play them 2 weeks in a row,... give us the Pies for the next 5 games and we will finish top 4.:D

What do you mean "almost scared the heck out of us" they bloody well did, Another last quarter of Kouta brilliance to ensure us a finals win and probably a premiership to be truthful.:thumbsu:

I agree that is why I said "NOT saying we will make finals"... but my theory is based on if we do make finals you'd suggest we'd have won 4 of our next 5 at least meaning we'd have have won 5 or our last 6 games with most of those wins coming against teams in the top 8.

To win 5 of your last 6 games against predominantly top 8 teams is indicative of good form, and in seasons past it's a marathon not a sprint so we'd be coming into good form at the right end of the year.

Also the fact that come finals teams from 5th-8th will be all very similar unlike the stand-outs atm from 1-4... so we would have a shot of winning 1 final that could be enough to motivate and increase confidence in a second final win.

Yeah if we did win the next 5 then definitely we deserve to be in the finals.

If we get over Adelaide and Port Adelaide in the next 2 weeks then we only need to win one more of our last 3 games (against North, Brisbane and Hawthorn) to be a chance and 2 wins to be certainties.

Something else worth considering is that Hawthorn play WC at Subi in Round 21, so we get them on their cross country hangover :thumbsu:

We should beat Adelaide and Port Adelaide. We're 50/50 against North and you'd give Brisbane the edge at the Gabba given our struggles with J Brown. I really don't think we match up very well against Hawthorn and wouldn't expect us to win that.

So a lot will probably hinge on that North game, assuming we win the next two weeks.

If we made the Prelim we'd finish in the top 4, not 5th.

It would be nice to play finals one year after finishing 2nd last!

However, I think I might die from dehydration. I reckon I would be locked in my room furiously masturbating for the entire week.

Probably more than I needed but at least you bypassed the euphemisms. :thumbsu:

Ummm.... if we made a prelim how would we finish 5th

I think it's highly unlikely we play finals, but what a great achievement that would be if we did.

Would be tremendous to get that experience into the kids, even if we got annihilated in an elimination final.

But I don't think we would. The Blues have done OK in big pressure games at the G (eg. win over Richmond, wins of the Pies). The ones we can't seem to win to save ourselves is the ones we *should* win (Essendon, St Kilda, some games earlier in the year). And guaranteed we'd be underdog in any final we played. Would be great. I'd give us a puncher's chance of winning a final if we made it.

Don't think we will though.

Those early-season losses and 0-2 versus the fricken Bombers will have seen to that.

You do realise there's a chance they'll finish 5th and we'll finish 8th? Do you know how the finals system works?

Do you realise there's an even bigger chance they won't finish 5th at all?

This is what I meant about "not playing them again". Everything will have to go right for them to finish 5th and us 8th... how likely do you think that is considering the draws of both teams?

Read into it closer next time rather than asking stupid questions. ;)

There is a ton of different ways the finals could end up. To say "we wont play them again" like its a lock is pretty stupid. They are two points from 5th spot. And bringing up draws for teams doesn't really hold much weight anymore, last weekend proved that.
