After settling from my fit of rage at such a dissapointing performance I can see a little clearer now...

same old prob...Not enough contested ball when it matters...Inside 50's lagged st.kilda by up to 30% most of the night...doesnt matter if royce hart and disco were down there we need to win more pill than opposition....I really think that will improve with Cogs/Polo added to the mix. Apart from that...

Moore has bulked up and is playing confidently, good mark and uses it well...I reckon he'll be a player

Kingy. will make his mark this year...everyone will know him...Has all the tools...pace, composure and uses the pill...and High on competitive juices, what a find he's been

Newy, looks to be thriving on being awarded the leadership role...liked how he went about it

Lids looked a million bucks as a HFF...love to see 50+ from him

Browny moved well...should have had 3

Patto did some nice things

Richo was good to a point....how many times have I said this...should have had 3-4

Mcmahon got a bit of it...like to think he could improve on that

Foley...in and out of the game

The less said of the others the better:o

While there was no rage on my behalf, there was disappontment, I was disappointed that we lost the game but was not disappointed by some of the things I saw out there last night.

We had a number of senior players having quiet games, Johnson, Tivendale, Simmonds, Bowden(even though he had 19 possies, 14 were handballs), Foley, Richo (cheap possies across HB mean nothing), Pattison, Tambling, Polak, Raines, Hyde & Jackson were all fairly quiet by their normal standards. So I can see that there is room for improvement and no need for us to panic and call for blood just yet. Lets see how they go in the next 3 weeks of practice matches as well as the first few rounds of the season proper before we start with that sort of crap.

On the flip side, there were some encouraging signs last night, Lids showed how dangerous he will be playing up forward with 2.2 from 12 possies and 8 marks, Brown spent the entire game on the ground and looked good, Moore showed he may actually be a useful player, Mcmahon and Morton both showed they will be more than handy recruits, King and Newman played the kind of attacking footy we want to play, Casserly showed a little and more importantly we got through without any injuries.

Over the next few weeks I look forward to seeing a side more like the one we will have as our best 22 playing in the positions they should be playing in week after week. For mine the addition of players like Polo, Thursfield, McGuane, Edwards and to a lesser extent Coughlan will make the side much more competitive than it was last night and I for one am not going to lose faith because of a poor showing in the NAB Cup.

Simmonds looked way underdone but got through the game. :thumbsu:

Patto didn't spend much time in the ruck, but some of his work in the third quarter against some pretty handy opposition was excellent.
