With the injuries incurred last week to some of our aging stars, will we finally be able to see if some players who have not played or periodically play in the AFL, can make the transition.

I have been concerned, that when our A grade players like Roo, Joey, Shinner and Fish finally hang the boots up, it would leave a hole.

Players like Pierce( congratulations on your 1st game), Lee, Wright and Delaney, have a chance to show that they can either make it or that possibly, they will no longer be a Saint.

As I don't watch the VFL, some of these players maybe already out the door, but if they can step up, they will make our list management team's job that much harder.

I agree with the chance to see pierce but really the other 3 aren't going to make it if we are being honest so in the case all the injuries are doing is making this a tough game to win.

No this is a fair stretch.
McCartin going down is disappointing because its so important he plays games early, at his size we need to develop him.
Goddard also disappointing but not as important of a player but still annoying.
Why I'm annoyed with the Billings dropping whatever you do you must develop the young guys who are important
McCartin, Gresham, Billings, Goddard if there showing development signs

I'd argue dropping billings is part of his development, needs to learn there are no passengers no matter how much latent talent they have

Agree with Pierce. Great to see him get a chance. Reality is we probably only have a space for 1 of him and Holmes next year on our senior list and was actually assuming he would get rookied after this year. Hopefully he can compete strong in the air especially whilst fwd.

Wright I really do like however he does play the Geary role so i'm hoping his disposal has improved so he can be a bit more versatile.

Delaney has his last chance this weekend. If he struggles against a resting ruckman or Everitt, then he wont play next week and expect to see Coghlan elevated early. For his sake I hope he can get back to his form from a few years back when we first picked him up and he was a great defensive backman. My thinking is probably not as he has struggled in the VFL this year to it seems as has occasionally played fwd (with little success).

Lee will hopefully get a chance to prove himself on Casboult and am quietly confident he can get the job done. Hopefully his kicking is on as well and we can get some good penetration out of the backline (as Geary and Delaney wont provide it)

Very happy to see Minchington and Acres getting another go after strong VFL form as that's the way our midfield/small fwd lineup needs to be selected rather than based on age and name.

I'd rather our better players play. The VFL is a strong enough comp to do your developing in. The AFL should be about performance.

No point following the Pies model of injury excuse to dismiss performance.

Now we have an anti jinx injury thread about oldies getting injured.

Cue everyone under 24 getting hurt this week

Are there two of you, plugger? I keep finding I either disagree with you fervently as if the opposite of what you say is true, or I agree wholeheartedly. I know I tend to hold consistent views which usually only change when the evidence leads me to reassess...(inference implied)
I look at the players in our reserves as a resource. Each has assets that can help our club. We brought them into our club because of those assets. I see Tom Lee as a medium tall who has excellent kicking skills, is very mobile, is a good mark now (after being poor overhead because of his dodgy shoulders), he is smart and quite coachable, is well-liked and does the work required to prepare himself for the demands of the job. He is superb when the ball hits the ground, and he usually maintains possession or knocks it to advantage. I think we can utilise those skills. Is still in the process of learning how to become a specialist defender but shows all the qualities that make a good defender. Of his faults: Tackling is a weakness, but not a problem because his speed allows him to corral players and prevent them from maximising their damage. I haven't observed him spoil very many times but he is 4th at our club for 1%ers so he probably does or that may be shepherds...
and Wright is a real goer. He has speed, he is a ferocious tackler, he gathers possessions including hard ball gets, presents as a target for marks etc. The big knock on him is his kicking. There are a few things we can do to ameliorate this aspect of his game, but my suggestion is to play him as a defensive forward. We get maximum benefit of his assets and we minimise the damage a poor kick can do. A number of players who appear to have ordinary or worse kicking skills often do better when taking set shots at goal.
I haven't even given up on Delaney yet, though he does seem to have gone through a bad patch.

I look forward to seeing if some of the second tier can really step up with added responsibility. If our 'best' list for the Carlton game is mainly comprised of Steven, Armitage and Montagna that will be very disappointing. Just want to see a few others stand up.

Not sure about injuries, but limited access to the internet sure can be.
You posted this while my internet access was interrupted!

I think my views are very consistent. I don't rate the players that have come in. I think 2 of them are near certain to be delisted. I don't think lee will but only because others are ahead of him. It's not richos fault they are in. There was no choice. I don't buy this injury stuff gives opportunity. If it meant young promising kids were playing then maybe but apart from pierce the other 3 aren't good enough imo. Having said that I hope they are the best 3 on the ground and more importantly we win
