Update on Hoops, Taylor no longer TBC, Gibbo not far away.

Max Bailey (knee) TBC
Campbell Brown (PCL - knee) 2-3 weeks
Josh Gibson (hamstring) 1-2 weeks
Rhan Hooper (hamstring) TBC*
Liam Shiels (thigh) test
Simon Taylor (fractured leg) 4-5 weeks
Clinton Young (thigh) test

*Hooper is in a training block to establish base fitness and strength levels before building back up to play.

Hooper will have been out for 5 weeks leading into the Bulldogs match. I assume that he will probably miss another 3 after that, making him available for the St.Kilda match at Etihad. We'll need him.

Our ruck has actually improved with him out of the side.
I'd very much like to see how Taylor goes with decent coaching this year. We are still being hurt in the actual hitouts in a lot of games, and Taylor was a much better actual tap ruckman than Renouf or Skipper when he last played.
Would we consider playing 3 ruckmen when Taylor returns?
No chance.

Works for the Saints.

Skipper can play forward pocket against a side packed with defensive monsters.

So so wrong. Our rucks were beaten last night and while Skipper and the Roof have been handy Taylors rucking is better than both, currently.

I agree. When Renouf was off we were in trouble. Skipper back to the seconds to become the big-bodied defender we lack, and to cover for a ruck injury when needed.

Exactly.

Saw some very positive signs from Taylor early this season.
A result obviously from the tutelage of Monkey.

So...when regarding a ruckmans output we disregard their 1 main job? 16 to 45 hitouts last night, that's just not good enough.
Players , for good or for bad , are now coached to sit off there opp and then wrap them up....and i recon the stat's will also show , winning the tap does not equate in to a clearance.....A win when Bellchambers wins the tap and Skin wins the next contest as he did time after time....;)And it did not need to be a disp......could be a block that allows our boys too get too the fall of the ball.....:thumbsu:

As long as Taylor knows his limitations and just handballs off to better players, I want him in the side. His contested marking is also very handy.

Oh and on your 45 to 16 hit outs , was actualy 26 to 45 and the clearance diff was only 32 v 37.......a 5 disp diff....

Perhaps if we could break even in the hitouts our midfield loaded with the best clearance players in the competition could actually beat Essendon rather than just get close?

Seriously, a midfield with Hodge, Mitchell, Sewell, Borgoyne and now Rioli should be dominating clearences. A side like Essendon should count themselves lucky to see the footy.

Cats only beat them by 8 clearances last week.........;)

I don't see Taylor getting back in the side.

Renouf has shown great character to have to ruck single-handedly, more than anything Taylor has ever done. If anything, when Taylor had to ruck without Campbell, he showed poor character giving away silly free kicks and taking responsibility. Renouf may not beat him as a tap ruck man, but he beats him everywhere else around the ground with much better disposal and athleticism. Still his ninth in the league for effective hitouts. He also bullocks and sheperds around stoppages and around the ground, and will get a clearance if he doesn't get a tap.

Skipper has shown his definitely a useful backup ruckman. He doesn't make any silly errors and I am seeing a general improvement over time. That's all you can really ask for and even on that reason alone, I would leave him in the side instead of Taylor who has gone backwards.

Sorry, you're right, for some reason the afl website says 16 for total. The clearance diff shouldn't have been in their favour in the first place, in the first quarter it was 10 to 1, our way.
