iphone Thread - Part 2

Hi all, looks like some good advice here so im going to ask my questions. I know I should just ask the relevant companies but I would like to go to them with an idea of where I stand.

I have an iPhone 3GS on a 2 year contract with Virgin, the two years is almost up and I want to switch to Telstra for the better network coverage. I was going to wait for the 5 but my 3GS got replaced recently under warranty so I reckon it will last a while longer.

Will Virgin unlock it so I can use it on any network? Will Telstra let me buy a prepay simcard off them and stick it in and go?

I think you can do a 'training' session at an Apple Store, which is probably worthwhile for her - but you will need to spend a bit of time with her sorting ITunes and stuff.

No but it's hard to keep things out of our 15 month olds hands!

Yeah I hate her for making me install and use iTunes but it'll be done.

I dunno about 3GS, but all carriers were offering free network unlocks for iPhone 4s. You can normally do it via the website, so maybe have a peek around Virgins site.

Anyone have the incompetent footy apps Footy Lite or Footy Live? Both have updated the ladder for the Q-Clash but not for Richmond v Freo. Some coincidence.

Dunno how you can say incompetent. Footy live is a great app. Goals are updated less than 5 seconds after they happen. Things like the worm and news are great.

Just noticed someone mentioned the AFL site hasn't even recorded the Richmond v Freo result on the ladder.

AFL site is as incompetent as these apps. There is no absolutely excuse for them to be inaccurate. I think I'll go to the trouble to give them 1 star reviews.

apps can only source information from the internet. It makes sense to use champion data as they are the leader in this area.

The AFL uses the same. Licensing fees would also play a part.

If the site you are getting a feed from hasn't updated than the app can't update. Not sure how you can blame the app for that.

I guess that's the whole problem with the AFL/Telstra chain. They cannot be relied on to provided timely and accurate stats, and anyone that relies on downstream info is compounding the incompetence.

Both apps had the final score for the Richmond game, so why had they not updated the ladder? The result of the Q-Clash game later that evening had been reflected in the ladder.

Sportsmate Mobile's Footy Live eventually updated their ladder, hours before Slattery Media Footy Lite (or the AFL site) did. The AFL site took almost 24 hours to update.

I actually agree with you btw just thought you directed your rant the wrong way. No point having a website if it can't achieve it's main objective.

Yeah doesn't work. As soon as try to manually manage it asks me the same thing.

was it the computer you originally synced your music to?

i've noticed that even if you do something like reformat your rig, itunes will require you to delete all itunes data from your previous installation before you can do anything again

Nah it's a different comp, so not sure if it can be done. Doesn't look like it.

Don't think it can, but grap IDump or something, copy all of the tunes from your IPhone onto your new Laptop, then when it synchs, it wont matter.

Just a quick question. I'm going away for 6 months - wondering if there is any app that allows me to put PDF files onto my iPhone for offline access - preferably in a readable format.

Also, anyone else have any recommended handy apps for offline access when overseas?
